The Flying Unicorn December KOM, Magic!

The Flying Unicorn December KOM, Magic is now available and its loaded with lots of fun things from Kaisercraft, Pink Paislee, Prima, Marion Smith Designs and a great OTP!

This was a fun mixed media project that I did with the kit and some things from my stash. I used one of Tim's new stencils, Rays, to mask the sun rays and Stampendous aged gold embossing powder around the edges. In the center section I used different inks, paints and glimmer glam. Love the mistable Elementals canvas borders that come in the embellishment addon.

The December OTP is really great and would make a wonderful gift. It is a picture frame that slides off a box where you could store quite a few photos. I kept mine simple because I am using it as a storage bin for scrapable photos and since it will be handled alot I didn't want a lot of embellishments on it. I used Teresa Collins Memorablia collection for this and flowers from the Dec KOM flower add on.

BIG SALE!! Kaisercraft St Nicholas collection now in stock!

Don't miss the big sale happening now at the Flying Unicorn!!

We now have Kaisercraft's St. Nicholas collection in the store and right now you can buy it at 30% off as well everything in the store! Also, be sure to check out our new Inspiring Your Art feature where we've assembled a line of products that pair beautifully with our new paper collections

I really love this collection with its old world Santa images and rich Christmas colors.  The photo I used was taken in Verdun, France in 1952 or 1953.  The little girl was our landlord's daughter.  The Petaloo Textured blooms really go nicely with this paper too!

I used Leaky Shed's fancy keyholes above and below the photo to add some old world charm.  Have you ever use cream rubons?  Craf-t Products Kit #2 is a cool collection of metallic cream rubons and that's what I used to color the chipboard.  Its a fun product that easily washes off your fingers and I love that about it!

Patterned paper: Kaisercraft St Nicholas collection: base - Santa Claus, circle - Grandfather Frost, rectangle - Babbo Natale, border - Kris Kringle, Collectable die cuts, cut apart tags - Mr. Claus

Leaky Shed Studios meet Graphic 45!

Here I am  with another tag, they are just so fun to make!  Everyone is busy preparing for the holidays and there are so many fun holiday projects on the web right now.  Well, I just have to be a little different, I need a break from red and green!

I love the fantasy of Steampunk designs and the Steampunk Cameo is one of my favorites.  I paired it with Graphic 45's Steampunk Spells and made this tag that would be great for someone graduating high school or college, or maybe someone embarking on a special adventure.

I like long tags, this one is about 8 1/2" x 3 1/2" and when you take into consideration the lace at the bottom and the cut apart card, its really 4" x 11".

I've been asked, "How did you get the wording on that little tag?"  That's easy, I print it on a transparency and then adhere with a glue that dries clear.  Vellum tape will also work but I like clear glue better.

Steampunk Tag

Here's a closeup of the chippy.  I sprayed it all over with Glimmer Mist - black magic first.  Then I dabbed on random spots of glue and sprinkled with ebony microbeads just to add some texture and contrast.  After that dried I topped the beads with a little glossy accents so that they would stay put!

The best thing about this tag?  It took less than an hour to make.  I love a quick project!

More G45 Couture, now at the Flying Unicorn!

I love Couture and the Flying Unicorn store now has it in stock!  Here's a gift card holder tag that I made.   This G45 collection is so perfect for making gift tags and cards for my girlfriends!

I used a cut apart and a cardstock envelope from the Couture collection.  The oval frame is cut with a Sizzix thin die.  A little fussy cutting, some gorgeous Petaloo flowers, tie on a ribbon and that's all there is to it!
You can see the gift card holder opening in this view.

Some black beading adds a nice feminine touch to the oval frame.

Graphic 45 Couture!

It was a happy mail day on Friday when my Graphic 45 Couture collection arrived!!  I've just been itching to get my hands on it and we have it now in the Flying Unicorn store so hurry over and get some before it sells out!

Here's my first layout with it; I decided to start with the patterns and work my way into all the lovely Couture images that are part of this collection.  I just fussy cut one gal there at the bottom.  The photo is from the early 1940's and is of my grandparents, Mom and her sisters and a cousin in Washington DC.  The sisters are all wearing slacks which I found kind of interesting as the ladies didn't wear slacks too much back then.

I masked the peacock feathers on the background to go along with the peacock feathers in that one gorgeous printed paper.  Then I added a chippy that I painted with Smooch and dressed up with stickles.

The lamppost is heat embossed with Shimmerz Enamelz.

Leaky Shed dolls and G45 Twelve Days of Christmas

Hi there all my scrappy friends!  Here's a blast from my past that I thought was appropriate for the fast approaching holiday season.  Yep, I was one of Santa's helpers and I thought this photo was perfect to pair with our Julie Nuttig Naughty or Nice 4' chipboard doll and Graphic 45 Twelve Days of Christmas.

I've painted her skin with watercolors and her hair and boots with markers.  My favorite thing to use on chipboard is embossing powder and I keep finding different ways to apply the powder.  On this one, I squirted a litle bit of Distress embossing ink out and used a small paintbrush to paint the ink on her dress.  That way I was able to avoid getting ink in the cracks that define her pretty skirt.  The I sprinkled with Ranger Embossing Antiquities in chinese red.  I used a straight pin to clean out any stray powder in the lines and heat embossed.  I love the effect of the enamel on her dress and hat.  For the fur trim on her hat and dress, I dabbed on Aileene's Glitter Snow with a stiff paintbrush.

I also used the largest Leaky Shed's Victorian frame around my photo.  I heat embossed the frame with Stampendous aged gold embossing enamel.  It gives the frame such a pretty antiqued look.

Patterned paper: Graphic 45 Twelve Days of Christmas collection: red check - Joyeux Noel 4500724, floral - Christmas Rose 4500722, cut apart - Holly and Ivy 4500730, green check - Swans a Swimmng 4500727solid green from 6 x 6 paper pad, tags - Cardstock Banners
Chipboard: Leaky Shed 4" Naughty or Nice 1205-08s, Leaky Shed Victorian Oval Frame 6134
Embossing powder: Ranger Embossing Antiquities Chinese Red embossing enamel, Stampendous Aged gold
Diecuts and punches: Martha Stewart holly punch, WRMK Lucky 8 Classic Wreath
Flowers: G45 Cardstock flowers, Petaloo Botanica Faux Dried 1102005 red
Ink: Prima moss lawn & brick wall
Other: Aileene's Glitter Snow, red Stickles

Two quick Christmas projects with G45 Twelve Days of Christmas!

Every Wednesday at the Flying Unicorn, we have WCYDW, What Can You Do Wednesday, and it always features a new project or technique that you can use in your paper crafting!  I was up yesterday and here's what we did!

It's that busy time of year when we all have too much to do and not enough time to do it in, right?  I always want to handcraft things for my friends but I always run out of time!  Well here's a quick quick gift card holder that you can make in just a few minutes!  I used Graphic 45's Twelve Days of Christmas 8 x 8 paper pad but anything will work!

Add a pretty ribbon to the top and you are finished and on to the next thing on your busy holiday preparations list!

Here's another quick little project to make a gift container from a jar.  Its perfect for a sweet piece of jewelry or maybe some homemade chocolates!  The jar I've used is plastic and it was a soup base jar.  It's about 3 1/2" tall and 11 1/2 around.  You can use anything that has proportions that will look like a drum. I used 1 sheet of 12 x 12 paper from Graphic 45's Twelve Days of Christmas, Drummers Drumming.

Now you have a pretty little drum box that's perfect for a special little gift for some lucky person!
