More Swirlydoos June KOM projects, Rose Bouquet

The June Swirlydoos kit has been fabulous!!  I seriously love Kaisercraft's Storyteller collection that was featured in this kit.

On this page I've layered scraps underneath my photo and the title card.  From my stash I added the beautiful Creative Embellishments swirl underneath the photo.  It has been heat embossed with Lindy's embossing powder from the main kit.  Love how that turned out!

Cardstock: Bazzill French Vanilla
Patterned paper: Kaisercraft Storyteller collection: orange frame - Memoir P1501, light base - Feature P1505, title card & blue dotted - Journal P1508, striped - Anecdote P11506, Collectables CT793, light orange - Ruby Rockit Heritage Old News, coral cardboard - Fancy Pants
Chipboard: Creative Embellishments flourish
Embossing powder: Lindy's Coral Blush

Mist: Lindy's Maidenhair fern green, wild honeysuckle coral geranium
Masks: Prima
Masking paste: Shimmerz TextureZ Tidy Widy
Other: wood frames - Prima Wood Embellishments Time Travelers Memories

This Prima frame was in the technique addon kit for June.  Don't you just adore this frame?  That is my favorite photo of Chena peeking at you!  I've added some flowers, metal pieces and Leaky Shed Studios chipboard from my stash to complete this look.

The photo that I used on this layout comes from the Library of Congress and is part of a series of photos done about children working in textile mills.  This photo was taken in 1908 at a NC mill.

This gorgeous Creative Embellishments chippy is from my stash.  I've embossed it with Stampendous Aged Ivory Embossing Enamel.

Supplies:

Patterned paper:  Kaisercraft Storyteller collection: stripe - Anecdote P1506. white misted - Myth P1503, diecut circle - Confession P1502, floral - History P1504, dotted swiss - Journal P1508, black patterned - Reminisce P1507
Chipboard:  Creative Embellishments
Embossing powder:  Stampendous aged ivory
Diecuts and punches: EK Success Flower Burst, Lucky 8 WRMK Frilly Lace
Flowers:   Prima
Ink:  Distress walnut stain
Mist:  Tattered Angels Gumdrop

For this tag, I cut a tag 3.5 x 8.5" and layered  some of the Kaisercraft Storyteller journal cards.  Along the side I fussycut the flowers from the Reminisce paper and popped them up over some white lace from my stash.  I've embossed some Creative Embellishments leafy vines (from my stash) with Stampendous shabby green embossing enamel and cut the vines apart and tucked in here and there on my tag.
These flowers are from the flower addon kit.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

BAP with the June Swirlydoos kit of the month, Rose Bouquet

Rose Bouquet is a gorgeous kit full of shabby chic papers and embellishments; just perfect for the style we all love so much! Here's the layout that I'm going to share with you today. All the papers and embellishments came from the main kit. Let's get started!

1. If you've never tried this technique, be sure to give a go. It takes a lot of the "pain" out of fussy cutting! Take the floral and green striped paper, Anecdote, and with a paintbrush paint a line of water around the floral design. Then tear along the damp line. There you have it, "fussy cutting" and distressing all at the same time. Ink the edges if you desire. I used Distress Bundled Sage and Mix'd Media Inx Peaches. As you can see I use a pair of tweezers to hold the paper down as I gently tear along the water line thatI've painted on.

2. Using the same floral striped paper, Anecdote, cut a piece about 7.5" wide leaving the bottom ragged from where you tore out the flowers. Tear strips off all around about 1/4". Use a white paint dabber and dab around the edges.

3. Now find the coral colored Ruby Rock-it Heritage Old News paper and cut a piece 8.5 x 10.25". Punch all the edges with any punch, I used Martha Stewarts swirling lace and then distress the edges. Use the white paint dabber on the edges.

4. Now take the small rose print Kaisercraft paper, Confession, and tear about 1/4" off all the edges. I used Picket Fence Distress Stain over much of the paper to give it a slightly faded look. Dampen the torn edges and scrunch.
5. Cut out a 10" square from the KC pale coral paper, Reminisce, and set aside to use on another project. Distress the edges of the 12 x 12 frame and ink.

6. Time to assemble! Center and glue the rose print paper on top of the pale coral frame.
7. Adhere the Ruby Rock-it coral sheet centering from side to side on top of the small rose print.
8. Adhere the mint striped paper on top the Ruby Rock-it paper making sure that the punching shows on the top and sides.

9. We will pop up the floral strip from Anecdote with foam tape but for me only at the top as I am fitting journaling under the florals. Attach the floral strip 6" from the top of the page.

10. Glue lace on either side of the photo placement.

11. Now use the large Shabby Chic Treasures frame from the kit to frame your photo. Attach frame and photo just over the floral strip between the lace.
12. Double up the vine thread and glue on top of the lace.

13. Take two of the Prima Wood Embellishment keys and emboss with the Lindy's Geranium Coral Blush embossing powder. I have hidden journaling folded in the coral paper under the flowers. You can add this as journaling or as a decorative element. Glue the keys just below the photo along with one of the Prima wooden embellishment pointing hands as shown.

14. At this point you are ready to embellish. Place the flowers underneath the photo and add a large leaf on either side. I made 6 rolled roses from the left over Ruby Rock-it Heritage Old News coral color paper. Add some flowers to the top of the layout, tuck in more of the ivy vine thread and one of the Prima wooden clock embellies.

That's it! Be sure to ask any questions you might have.

The photo is of my grandparents and all of their children, my aunts and uncles. Lots of journaling under the journal flap. Here it is if you are interested.

I have so many fond memories of times spent at my Grandparents house. We were a big family and it was so fun having so many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Aunt Elsie didn’t have any children and so she, in particular, really doted on us. Her husband, who we called either Uncle Alex or Uncle Everett, would bring us silver dollars or 2-dollar bills and of course, we loved that!

Papa Greene had a country store and in the summers, we would play kick-the-can or hide and seek down by the store with the other children who came to the store with their folks. The store was a meeting place and you’d always find someone there sitting on the bench dipping snuff and talking about their crops.

Papa Greene was such a fun grandpa, he really loved his grandchildren. When we’d leave from a visit, he’d give each of us a small brown paper sack filled with penny candies. He was never too busy for us.

Mama Greene loved us too but she was always busy. In the summers, she cooked all the time as she made dinner (which is lunch to most of us) for the tobacco hands. I remember the help coming in from the fields so well. There was a big dipper out by the well; they’d all go there and have a big drink of water. Then on the porch, she had several wash pans set out, one to wash the tobacco gum off their hands and another for rinsing. Now they were ready for dinner! Dinner was usually lots of fresh vegetables from the garden and cornbread. She always had snaps – those are green beans that she always cross cut after cooking so that they pieces were about a half inch in size. My favorite dish was Grandma’s potatoes, which were chunks of potato in a cream sauce that she made from the cooking broth and butter. They were so good and I make them now but they aren’t as good as Mama Greene’s. There might have been a little pork but usually there wasn’t much meat. Of course, no meal is complete without dessert and she always had one.

Before we ate, she always announced what was for dinner. I can still hear her in my head, “Now there’s Irish potatoes, snaps…”. For years, I thought she was saying ash potatoes! She was distinguishing between Irish potatoes and sweet potatoes.

When she wasn’t cooking, she was working in the garden or canning and freezing for the rest of the year. There was always something from the garden that needed to be shelled. Sometimes we’d sit outside under a big shade tree and shell field peas and butter beans.

My Hero My Dad layout with Fabscraps Gentlemen's Club

Here is a layout honoring my Dad who served in the US Army for 28 years. We lived in France, Germany and Japan while following him around the globe.  He also served in Korean and Vietnam but we were not allowed to accompany him to those places so we lived in NC during those times. It was an interesting way to grow up!

We have a Round Robin challenge at Swirlydoos every month and this is my entry for my team 4.  You should join us in the fun, you do not have to use our kits to participate in the Round Robin.

I used Fabscraps Gentlemen's Club for this layout.  It's a perfect collection for scrapping the guys in your life!  Lots of masking and misting on this layout.  Fabscraps makes great chipboard pieces to go with their collections.  Here I've used their hot air balloon, title and clock chippies.  What I love the most is that there is also diecut paper to cover the hot air balloon chippy available.

These are metal flowers that I've dabbed with embossing ink and Stampendous aged gold embossing enamel.  I love this effect on metal embellies.

I used a gold Sharpie pen to outline the title.  It really makes it stand out.

For this project you will need:

  • Fabscraps Gentlemen's Collection paper range:  C66 003 Airship x 2, 005 Gentlemen's Attire,  007 Thoroughbred
  • Fabscraps Mask  DS 010 and masking paste
  • Fabscraps chipboard pieces DC 004 My Hero My Dad, 013 Clock, 015 Hot Air Balloon
  • Fabscraps Journal Box MC66 001A
  • Fabscraps Sticker sheet ST66 002
  • Mists
  • Light and dark brown paints
  • Balloon
  • Gold pen
  • Embellishments - flowers, twin
  • Instructions:

  1. Cut a 10" square from the center of 003 and set this aside to use in another project..  Distress and ink the edges of the frame that is left.
  2. Fussy cut the half globe from the second sheet of 003 paper.
  3. Cut the clock strip 2 1/4 x 8" at the bottom from the 2nd sheet of 003.  Distress and ink the edges.
  4. Use a deep border punch (I used Martha's Stewart's Scrolled Hearts)  to cut an 11" border from 003 and then ink the edges
  5. Cut a strip 2 3/4 x 8" from 007 Thoroughbred.  Distress and ink the edges.
  6. Cut 1/4" from all the edges of 005 Gentlemen's Attire.  Mask in the lower right corner with Fabscraps Mask DS 010.  I also masked on the top with Prima's  different mask but I think the Fabscraps Mask would look great over all the page.) After the masking paste dries fit the mask back over the masked pattern and paint over the mask in a color to blend with the layout.  I used Distress Paint Antique Linen.
  7. Mist the page randomly with colors of your choice.  I used Lindy's Creme Brulee Cream and Mission Bells Brown.
  8. Paint the chipboard clock and title with a dark brown paint.  I used Viva Cacoa.  Use a gold pen to outline the words on the title chippy.
  9. Select one of the die cut hot air balloons and adhere to the chipboard hot air balloon.  Ink around the edges.
  10. From the sticker sheet 002, select 2 of the small clocks and one of the men standing on a clock and stick on a scrap of neutral cardstock, fussy cut around the three stickers from the cardstock.
  11. Cut 3 banners from your scraps.  The largest should be 1.75 x 8.25", the other two should be about an inch wide and two inches long.  Outline with the gold pen.
  12. Assembly:
Center and adhere 005 to the frame cut from 003
    • Adhere the deep border punch to the top of 005 as shown
    • Adhere the clock strip 003 to the 007 strip.  Adhere these to your page about 5" from the top.
    • Use foam tape, squares etc. to pop up the hot air balloon and attach to the right side of the page as shown.
    • Attach the title over top the hot air balloon and use foam tape as necessary to make it level on the page.  Add the man on a clock over the title as shown.
    • Cut cardboard to fit under the half globe (or use foam tape) and glue to the globe.  Attach to the bottom left corner.
    • Add the chipboard clock near the bottom overlapping the half globe.
    • Layer the banners underneath the photo and then adhere your photo to the layout.  Tuck the two small sticker clocks underneath the photo on top of the chipboard clock.
    • Embellish with flowers of your choice and a piece of twine at the top along the border cut.
Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate that you take your valuable time to visit my blog.

Fabscraps Gentlemen's Collection!

It's always an exciting day when you get to post your first work for a design team!  So today I am really happy to show you my first layout with Fabscraps Gentlemen's collection!  This is the perfect set of papers to use when scrapping those men in your life and with Father's Day coming up, well, it's perfect.

However,  it works with other themes too and I chose to do a vintage styled layout of myself when I was 19 traveling in Europe on my Eurail pass and diligently reading my Europe on $10 a Day!

For this project you will need:

  • Fabscraps Gentlemen's Collection paper range:  C66 001 Expedition, 007 Thoroughbred, Horsing Around 008,  003 Airships,
  • DC66 011 Globe chipboard piece
  • MC66 001A Journal Box cutouts
  • Mask and gold molding paste
  • Lindy's Grab a Guy gold mist
  • Scrap cardboard
  • Gold embossing powder
  • Gold pigment Izink
  • laser cut wood Eiffel Tower
  • Flowers and embellishments of your choice
Instructions:

  1. Distress and ink the edges of sheet 001 Expedition.
  2. Trim sheet 007 Thoroughbred so that it is an 11" square, distress and ink the edges.
  3. Trim sheet 008 Horsing Around so that it is a 10.25" square.  Use a Punch Around the Page punch on the edges, distress and ink.
  4. Tear some narrow strips from cardboard, ink and distress.
  5. Now layer the sheets with the largest on the bottom.  Tuck and adhere the cardboard strips between the bottom layer 001 and the next layer, 007.
  6. Mask a pattern in the upper left corner with gold masking paste.  Allow to dry before continuing to the next step. ( I used TCW Art is... mask and Studio 490 Gold Embossing Enamel)
  7. Randomly spray Lindy's here and there on the layout and dry with a heat gun.
  8. Fussy cut the large globe from sheet 003 Airships, distress and ink.  Adhere in the upper right corner.
  9. Carefully cut the chipboard globe from its frame.  Paint the frame gold. (I used Emperor's Gold Silks)
  10. Emboss the chipboard globe with gold embossing powder.  (I used Stampendous Aged Gold Enamel)
  11. Drip some gold Izink on the right side of the layout as shown.
  12. Fussy cut one of the watches and one of the large journal cards from the MC66 001A papers.
  13. Adhere a piece of scrap cardboard to the back of the journal card so that it is popped up.  Adhere your title to the journal card and secure to the layout in the bottom left corner.  Add the Eiffel Tower over top the title as shown.
  14. Layer some scrap cardboard, the gold painted frame from the chipboard globe, and some paper scraps underneath your photo.  Tuck in the fussy cut pocket watch at the top.
  15. Adhere the chipboard globe on the bottom right side of the photo.
  16. Embellish with flowers (mine are Petaloo Amber Mixed Textures Blossoms) and other bits and bobs that you may have.
  17. That's it, enjoy your work!
Be sure to stop by Fabscraps blog and Facebook page to see this new collection.

Thanks for stopping by!  I will have a layout about my Dad up in the next few days with this collection so I hope you'll come see that!
