Sweet Days - Flying Unicorn March KOM creations.

Wow, its already March?  Wasn't it New Year's Eve just the other night???  It really amazes me how  quickly time passes, if I had one wish I think it would be to slow time down!  But one fun thing, it's time for another kit reveal, yippee!!!  The Flying Unicorn March kit is full of scrappy goodness; it features Webster's Park Drive collection and Kaisercraft's Marigold collection.  The Flying Unicorn main kit ALWAYS includes an off the page project and this month the OTP was a real homerun!!  It is a Kaisercraft cukoo clock that is simply wonderful.  Take a look here  at our creative team's clock designs!

We left home on January 15th and headed south to enjoy some spring weather while the rest of the country was deep in winter!  Our first stop was New Orleans and what a great place that was!  We were there close enough to Mardi Gras to see decorations and a parade through the French Quarter, but early enough to miss the huge Mardi Gras crowds.  For me, that was just perfect!  We also ventured out of the city and took a boatride through the swamp and encountered this cute little guy in the water!

This first layout features Websters Park Drive collection and the green sheet is from Kaisercraft's Marigold collection.  I added a Scrapfx chippy over top the white diecut leafy flower embellie.  I heat embossed the chippy with Stampendous aged bronze embossing enamel.  If you haven't tried this product, you are missing out!!  It is so perfect for making your chippies really stand out!  I diecut the leafy vines under the flowers with a Spellbinders for Heartfelt Creations die, Bella Rose, and used the matching HC stamp.  Finally, I did some masking using TCW mini tiles mask and molding paste.  Then I tucked a little burlap from my stash under the floral clusters to add some natural elements to my page.

Here's my sweet Chena; I came across this picture not too long ago.  She was only 2 years old then,  and she will be 12 in just 3 weeks.  I think this is my favorite picture of her, she looks so coy, she is definitely flirting with the camera!  Again I used mostly the Websters collection but added the lime green striped paper from the KC Marigold collection.  The brown paper is something from my scrap bin.  I used a lot of punches on this layout, all from Martha Stewart, Wildfowers, Deco Flower and Deco Fan.

I love the little wooden birds that came in the kit and this one I painted with Viva 3D paint in moss.  This paint goes on so smoothly and has a glitter sparkle to it.  It also has body to it so it can be applied thickly if you wish.

The embellishment addon includes two Viva Decor pearl pens.  Have you tried these?  They are wonderful as you can make perfect round pearls with them!  I used the copper Viva Decor pearl pen to add the pearl accents on the key below.  I think it added a really pretty touch to the key.  Oh by the way the key and hearts are from my stash, they are part of the new Flying Unicorn metal adornments.  These metals are sooooo gorgeous!

Tomorrow I will share my OTP with you, its such a fun clock, can't wait to show you!  I've got to get it assembled today!

Mojo Monday at the Flying Unicorn!

Every Monday we post a new sketch in the Mojo Monday Forum at the Flying Unicorn to inspire you!

Alda did this gorgeous sketch, it is perfect for the photo that I wanted to scrap!

I used the February Flying Unicorn KOM mostly for this layout and added just a few things from my stash.

I used a ScrapFX circle chippy to accent the photo.  The leaves on the chippy are painted with Viva 3D lime green paint.  I don't know why its called lime green because it is not at all lime colored!  The floral part of the chippy I heat embossed with Stampendous shabby pink embossing enamel and then just touched the centers with peridot Mix'd Media Inx.

I added the Petaloo pink floral vine from my stash, the other flowers came in the kit.  The journal ticket is from the KOM August, 2012, Kaisercraft LakeHouse.

Dreams-Mix'd Media Inx and Molding Paste

We have a new weekly  feature at the Flying Unicorn , What Can You Do Wednesday, or WCYDW!  Every Wednesday the Creative Team will be sharing a new project, technique, build a page, always something designed to help get your creative wheels turning!

Welcome to my current favorite project and it's what you can do today!!  I'm going to share the processes I used to complete this fairy fantasy that I've named Dreams.

First we will create the background.  You will need these supplies:

Paper or canvas-I used papers from the January KOM, BasicGrey Serenade newsprint sheet-50 Pence
Molding paste
Palette Knife
Mix'd Media Inx-Mossy, Leather, Chiffon, Schoolhouse
Ink applicator or some sort, I use sponges
Water

I've done a video for you to show you how I created the background design of this project.

Alrighty then, now it's time to get creative.  I have to confess that once I got the background done I was clueless as to what to do next.  I  thought the background was so pretty, I just didn't want to cover it up with anything!  After several hours of starring at the background, I "consulted" with my fellow team members and creative advisors, Tammy and Shona who helped get my wheels spinning!

Techniques

Background:  Before adding anything to the background,  I used Martha Stewart's Cherish punch around the edges, then I inked the edges with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.  I mounted that on a another sheet, BasiGrey Avalon.  Then I sprayed the entire page with Lindy's Glitz Spritz Blazing Sun.  I wanted the project to have lots of sparkle to convey the magical feel.

Butterflies:  First I painted them with white gesso so that the ink would take better and so that the color would show better.  Then I inked them with Mix'd Media Inx in Chiffon and touched the edges with Schoolhouse Inx.  Next I heat  embossed them with clear embossing powder and added  Kaisercraft rhinestones for their bodies.

Fairies:  The Dusty Attic Fairy chipboard piece was painted with Liquid Pearls in Bisque, her wings were then covered with glitter. To make her hair, I spread Glossy Accents and then sprinkled with gold microbeads and then added a few brown microbeads to give her hair more dimension.  I used a little pink and red Stickles on the rose she is holding.

The other fairies were fussy cut from G45 Once Upon a Springtime Collection and then I used Stickles to accent their colors.

Flowers:  I lightly brushed Schoolhouse Mix'd Media Inx on all the light pink flowers so that their coloring would resemble the background masked flowers.  Then I applied crystal Stickles around the edges.   I also applied crystal Stickles to the smaller dark pink Bazzill flowers.

Leaves:  First I applied mossy Mix'd Media Inx to leaves so that their color would blend nicely with the stems on the background.  Then I dabbed on Lindy's in Gator Gumbo Olive and Cattail Copper Brown.

Supplies:

I used BasicGrey Serenade 50 Pence, Fabscraps Full Butterfly and Pink Paislee Portfolio letters, all from the January KOM

From my stash, much of which comes from the Flying Unicorn store:

Graphic 45 - Fairies cut from  Once Upon a Springtime collection
Distress Ink - Gathered Twigs
Bo Bunny Blush Zinnia (currently out of stock, but other colors available)
Kaisercraft paper blooms Fairy Floss
Kaisercraft Rhinestones - wine
Lindy's Glitz Spritz Blazing Sun
Lindy's mist with dabber tops - Cattail Copper Brown, Gator Gumbo Olive
Stickles - Crystal, Tropical Tangerine, Cotton Candy, Tattered Rose, Peeled Paint
Glitter-I'm not sure what color this is, its like crystal Stickles
White gesso
netting
Spellbinders for Heartfelt Creations Bella Rose die
Martha Stewart Cut Around the Page Cherish die

I  hope you've enjoyed this tutorial and will give it a try .  Leave me a link so I can see what you've done.

More Kaisercraft 75 Cents collection!

The Flying Unicorn store just got in new Kaisercraft collections: 75 Cents, Base Coat, Forget-Me-Not, and Pickled Pear! And,  along with all that Kaisercraft goodness, we also have new Dusty Attic and ScrapFX chippies!  Yippee!!!!  Look for these next week, I don't think they've had a  chance to get the new chippies loaded yet.

I've been working with 75 Cents, its a gorgeous collection, I really love the colors.  I mixed some Prima Tea Time journal cards  to add some  pinkto my layout.  My niece's wedding colors were blue and pink so I do try to add in some or her colors to the layouts I am doing for her wedding album.

On the paper behind the photo I used a Stamper's Anonymous bubble stamp and white acrylic paint to do some background stamping.

I love this Dusty Attic Wattle Blossum #0752 chippy. I painted it with white acrylic paint and then used one of my favorite products, Stampendous Shabby White Embossing Enamel, to heat emboss the chippy. The flecks of gold in their shabby enamels are so perfect for this layout.

Don't you just love this metal heart? We are so excited at the Flying Unicorn to bring you our very own metal adornments collection. The three pieces on this layout, the heart, key, and butterfly, are all Flying Unicorn adornments.

February Flying Unicorn OTP!

I seriously love the February off the page project that came with the main Flying Unicorn kit.  It's a 12 x 12 cotton duck cloth canvas from Canvas Corp that is just perfect for creating a wall hanging for your home or maybe a gift for a favorite someone!  I decided to make something cheerful and bright to hang in my kitchen.

The image is from a calendar that I saved because it has 12 beautiful chicken pictures in it and since I collect chickens...well you get the picture.  The kit includes papers and a 12 x 12 transparency from the gorgeous Kaisercraft Forget-me-not collection.  I've used the transparency underneath the image and also Honeycomb paper from the collection on this layout.  The red paper is a scrap from a prior kit.

I started the background by using  TCW's mini tiles mask and black gesso.  Then  I used TCW's  chicken wire screen and a selection of Glimmer and Lindy's mists.  Next, out  came the red, green, orange and yellow gelatos to add some intense color to the canvas.  I used TCW's reverse chicken wire screen and black gesso for the black chicken wire prints you see.  The two round chicken images are from Prima's Almanac collection.

The sunflowers were made with layered  Heartfelt Creations Aztec Gold Sunflowers stamp and Spellbinders Blossom Two die.  The leaves are stamped with Heartfelt Creations Distressed Leaves and then cut out.

I cut out grunge board & black cardstock letters using Sizzix lollipop dies. I glued the cardstock letters to the grunge board so they would pop off the canvas.  Then to add a little textural interest I stamped with a script stamp and clear embossed.

The Flying Unicorn store carries a great selection of mists and gelatos.  Be sure to check it out!  Thanks for visiting my blog.
