Flying Unicorn Sept Kit release!

Flying Unicorn's September Kit of the Month :
The end of summer is not a farewell, but an embrace of memories that will live on. That hot sun as you played in the water, and those steamy nights where you may have sipped wine in the yard, enjoying the smell of the bbq as you entertained friends and family . Lazy days by the pool and family vacation time. Sleeping in, as the yellow sun played in the skies of blue to late nights where only the shinning stars above were the light source. From the boldest blues and reds to the muted greens and purples it was 50 Shades of Summer.
Flying Unicorn proudly presents September's Kit of the Month with an ensemble from Melissa Francis Classic Elegance Collection,True Romance from Kaisercraft and 13@rts Faces of Spring.

Not only are we unique in the fact that scrapbooking should be a passion and not an obligation that we have no sign ups but it is first come first serve - Our kits have an Off the Page Project and this month is no different we have included the Tim Holtz Assemblage Clock for your creative pleasure.

Getting ready for Halloween at the Flying Unicorn!

The Flying Unicorn is getting ready for Halloween.  Steampunk Spells and Authentique's new line, Thrilling are both available in the store, check them out!

Graphic 45 has a sketch challenge running in August and I've created this layout for the challenge.  I think the colors of Steampunk Spells are just delightful and I've had so much fun playing with these spooky colors!

On this layout I've used a lot of the collection's flowers, tags, banners and chipboard pieces as well as a great ScrapFx steampunk chippy.

That big bottle with the skull on it is a Tim Holtz Stamper's Anonymous stamp that I got from Tim at CHA and he autographed the set!  Wooo hoo, thanks Tim!  The Steampunk Spells title and small bottle are stamped images (Hampton Arts) that I heat embossed with detail black embossing powder.

I made my flowers using Graphic 45 flowers and layered them together for a great fun look!

I love the ScrapFx steampunk chippies.  I embossed this one with Stampendous aged gold embossing enamel.  That is my go to product for chippies these days!

Here's the G45 sketch that I used.

Supplies:

Cardstock:      Bazzill Blackbird
Patterned paper:  Graphic 45 Steampunk Spells collection:  Base - Witching Hour, orange black cat patterned - Beware, black dot - Frightful Folly, Something Wicked image - Nevermore, Banners, tags, chipboard pieces, all Steampunk Spells
Chipboard:  ScrapFx 20-12332
Embossing powder:  Stampendous aged gold
Flowers:    G45 paper flowers
Ink:  Ayeeda black
Mist:  Lindy's Oz Emerald Green, Screaming Banshee Black, Hog Warts Orange
Other:  Prima SIIC corner pieces, Jolee's spider, Tim Holtz Stamper's Anonymous Halloween Blueprint stamps, Hampton Art G45 Steampunk Spells stamps

Here's another Halloween LO that I did with last year's G45 Halloween collection, Happy Haunting.  It's a great fun collection too, and available at the Flying Unicorn.

New Authentique paperlines available in the Flying Unicorn!

The Flying Unicorn store has 5 new paper lines in from Authentique and they are wonderful!  I love the paper that Authentique uses as it is so heavy duty that it can stand up to all the mixed medias and mists that we like to use these days.

Here's a layout I did of my parents using Authentique's new black and white Irresistible collection.  We were celebrating my Dad's 91st birthday on this day.  What an accomplishment!  I am so fortunate to still have both my parents and for them to be of sound mind and reasonable health at their age.

I love black and white papers so you know Irrisistible is perfect for me.  Of course, I love to add a spash of bright red!

Supplies:

Cardstock:      Bazzill
Patterned paper:  Authentique Irresistible Collection:  large circle - Allure, white squares - Formal, black square - Harmony, base frame - Engage, other pp tags

Mixed Media Inspiration kit from the Flying Unicorn

The Flying Unicorn Mixed Media Inspiration kit is full of things to get your creativity going!  For this first project, I chose one of the heavy duty 6x6 chipboard pieces in the kit and covered it with canvas that was also included in the kit.  Before adhering the canvas to the chipboard, I used the rubbing plates and black chalk that are included in the kit to rub an impression on the canvas.  Then I glued the canvas to the chipboard. There's a fun grungy stamp from Kaisercraft in the kit which I stamped with black in on my background.  Then I used some black molding paste from my stash and masked on mini paint lids (TCW, from my stash).  I must admit, most of that masking got covered up by the additional layers that went on this piece.  They I started misting with various Lindy's mists from my stash.  Next I decided to fold a fringed piece of canvas and make a top and bottom "border" for the piece.  I inked and stamped the fringed canvas in a similar fashion as the 3 x 3 piece and glued it to my chipboard.  Then there's a wide strip of mesh ribbon in the kit that I place over top everything.  At this point I decided the piece was starting to come together.  I had been thinking it would look good in the trash can up to this point, LOL!!  I used yet another mask, TCW mini vines. Because the surface is so uneven, the masking is less than perfect but I'm ok with this look.  I left the mask in place and used chalk ink to color and some Lindy's Gator Gumbo Olive mist.

Now I love this project so its time to embellish!  I cut out the three word tags from the kraft sheet in the kit and popped them up on the canvas with foam squares.  I added the white flowers from the August KOM, the berries and tiny roses are from my stash and the leaves are Martha Stewart punches.  For finishing touches, I used Distress black soot ink around the edges and rubbed on some white chalk here and there.

LOL I bet you guessed who did this one!  I've had that oval poodle decoration forever and finally I found something to do with it!

For this piece, I again started with one of the 6x6 chipboard pieces and painted it with white gesso.  Then I started adding mists, the Fireworks mist from the kit, and Lindy's from my stash.  After that dried I used the rock wall stamp in the kit to stamp over the misting.  Then I got out a foam stamp from a couple kits ago and stamped on some paint circles.  I dripped a little red Ayeeda ink on for good measure!

Then I adhered the poodle art and embellished with the Petaloo vines and flowers in the kit.  I tucked little pieces of the mesh netting into the floral clusters and dabbled white painte over all.  This is going in the poodle's grooming room!

The August Mid Month Muse mixed media inspiration kit is now available at the Flying Unicorn.  I hope you'll check it out.

7 Dots Messy Head & 9th Wave now available at the Flying Unicorn!

We are so excited that the two new collections from 7 Dots, 9th Wave and Messy Head, are in the store!  I've created two layouts from these incredibly gorgeous papers to share with you.
9th wave was perfect to use for this layout of my great niece playing in the pool.  9th Wave captures all the beautiful colors of the sea!  I added some Lindy's Fusible Webbing on the right.  I love the ragged lacey look of this webbing and I thought it added to the frothy sea look of the papers.  These papers are so pretty, I kept the embellishments and layering to a minimum as I wanted the beauty of the papers to really stand out.

You can see the details of the Fusible Webbing good in this photo.

At the bottom you can see an embellishment I created with duct tape!  Simply take a piece of duct tape and adhere to cardstock.  Then use an embossing folder to emboss the tape.  Next I painted the tape with white gesso, then I painted it with different shades of Viva Décor 3-D Stamp Paint.  It's easy and makes a cool looking embellie.  Trying using metallic paints for a really rich look!

Seam binding bow and silver Flying Unicorn Adornments.
