Inspirational Tiny Book and Case using Eileen Hull's Tiny Book Die and Book Case

Eileen Hull has done it again with the Tiny Book and Book Case dies.  The book fits into the case of course, and is palm sized at about 3.5" x 2.5".

The beautiful paper you see on my book and case is Bellagio cork paper and it is GORGEOUS!!!  This cork is just so incredibly pretty and it's real cork but at the same time it is durable and versatile.  It's nice and thin like paper.  It is available at Amazon and  Walmart.com and packaged in the Notion Department of Hobby Lobby.

This is not my usual flowery overdone work, but gosh, this paper is so gorgeous, it just doesn't need a lot of embellishment!  I made a simple band embellished with a silver flower to slide over the case as a closure.  It's neat and I think, elegant.

The front of the Tiny Book is embellished with a die cut pocket and tag

The Tiny Book is just a little inspirational book with a few quotes inside.  It would be a perfect little gift for a friend.

I made the pages with an accordion folded paper strip.

View from the back with the page strip pulled out.

Tutorial

Use  matboard or chipboard to make the book and case.  Cut the matboard so that it covers the dies and then select paper for both the inside and outside of the book and case. Cut the paper the same size as your matboard.  Apply adhesive to the paper BEFORE die-cutting.  Adhesive sheets work really well for this as you get full coverage whereas when I use glue sometimes the corners don't get properly adhered.

After applying adhesive to the paper, adhere the paper to the matboard on both sides.  Place the front side down on the die and run through your die-cutting  machine.    Assemble the box using a strong double sided tape like Eileen Hull's Red Liner tape by Thermoweb.

To make the band cut a piece of lightweight chipboard (or use heavy weight cardstock) 1" x 8 1/8".  Score at 2 1/2", 3 3/8", 6", and 6 7/8".  Wrap around the box and place velcro on the ends to make a closure.  The band does slip off without opening the band so you can make the band one piece without an opening if you want.

To make the booklet for the inside, cut a piece of cardstock or design paper 12" x 2 15/16".  Score at 2 1/8", 4 3/8", 4 5/8", 6 7/8", 9" and 11".

On the back side, place double-sided adhesive between the 4 3/8" and 4 5/8" scorelines.  This will be how the booklet is secured to the cover.

Fold up accordion style and decorate the panels as you wish.  Then adhere the inside the Tiny Book along the spine.

June Challenge at Creative Embellishments

The Challenge

It is June, already and that means it's time for a new challenge at the Creative Embellishments Blog.

Below is the inspiration photo and the twist this month is to use lace on your project.

My Take on the Challenge

I see a fairy gazing at her pet dragon in this photo and from that I was inspired to created a large tag of my sweet girl, Tisha.  For the twist, I used a piece of chipboard lace at the bottom of the tag.

I started by covering a large chipboard tag with design paper from Authentique's Purebred Collection.  Then I used the Distressed Grid Stencil to stencil on a pattern.  After the paste dried, I lightly brushed over it with Distress ink in Vintage Photo.  I also inked the tag edges with the same color.

The twist was to use lace on your project and I thought this lace chipboard border wa perfect for the twist.  I heat embossed it with Stampendous Aged Ivory Embossing Enamel, one of my favorite products for color chipboard.

I used a pair of corners, also embossed with Aged Ivory, underneath the photo, at the bottom left and upper right.

I popped up my layers to make the photo and sentiment really stand out.  Really, what greater love is there than that of your dog?  I am smitten with mine!

Creative Embellishments and The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog - Tickled Pink!

The Challenge - Tickled Pink!

Ok, all you lovers of all things pink, this challenge is fo you!  I'm hosting the challenge, Tickled Pink,  at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog and this time around and it's all about pink.  Create  a vintage or shabby chic project using the color pink. You may use other colors as accents, but, pink must be predominant. There are many shades of pink ranging from fuschia to soft baby pink so let your pink imagination go wild!

Creative Embellishments

I created this fun project using chipboard from Creative Embellishments and their new laser cut mirror acrylic stars in pink!

My Take on the Challenge

Let me introduce you to Mlle Fairbanks, she is my nod to all things pink (I'm not a "pink" kinda gal)!  She is looking at the pink box embellished with Creative Embellishments chipboard and acrylic stars that I created for the challenge.

I diecut the box with Eileen Hull Designs by Sizzix gift box die.  Before diecutting I covered the matboard with pink card stock.  Then I cut 5 panels, 3 1/2" x 3 1/2", of white mixed media paper and embossed them with the  3-D Kaleidoscope embossing folder.  Next I inked the paper with several pink tone Distress Oxide inks.  And because more is always better to me I decided that a bit of embossing powder would add to the mixed media mayhem I was creating!  Sooo, I randomly sprinkled on a bit of embossing powder, using mostly white for some contrast.  After I was satisfied with the panels I adhered them to the sides and top of the box.

On the front  side of the box I've used a grunge star corner chipboard piece from Creative
Embellishments and wrapped it around to the side.  I painted it with Dylusions Bubblegum Pink paint and then added clear glass embossing powder.  The star on the top of the box is also a grunge star corner but I cut it into pieces.

Creative Embellishments has added a great product to their lineup, laser cut acrylic mirrored stars.  I topped the two grunge star corners with acrylic stars and added others all around the box.

For a final touch, I splashed some white paint all over the box.  I needed a little something extra 'cause flowers just didn't work!  😊

Eileen Hull's Trinket Box

This is just the best time of the year, even with this nasty virus business.  It is so invigorating to walk outside and enjoy warming weather.   We live on the Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee so spring arrives later than it did for us in NC  and I am so enjoying that!  It would be hot by this time at our old residence.

We did a little landscaping here at our new house last fall and it has been fun to take my daily tour of our yard and see what has bloomed.  The rhododendron was spectacular, definitely one of my favorite things!

So all this spring weather and spring flowers inspired me to make a feminine flowered trinket box.  I used Eileen Hull's Sizzix ScoreBoards Trinket Box, Book and Frame die to make this floral delight.

Tutorial

Cut the pieces as shown in this photo.  Note that I cover both the front and back sides of the matboard before die-cutting.  I cut my paper and then apply Eileen's Adhesive Sheets to the design paper (I am using Graphic 45's Fruit and Flora collection,) and then apply to the matboard.  I find that if I apply the adhesive to the matboard, it tends to peel off a layer of the matboard when I peel away the backing from the adhesive sheet.  I am using the green patterned side on the outside of the box and the other pattern and solid on the interior.  Be sure you place the side you want on the outside face down on the die.

Ink the edges and the fold seams as desired.  I find that a Faber-Castell Big Brush pen works really well for inking in the seams BUT you have to be REALLY careful that the pen doesn't slip!

Join the two side pieces together forming a rectangle.  I like to cut away one of the side flaps so that the box sits flat on the bottom.  Apply two sided tape to the flaps.  I like to use Eileen's Red Liner tape as I think it holds better than Scor-tape but I ran out.  Scor-tape works and for this application it'll be fine.  (It's when I'm making journals that I really like the Red Liner tape.)

This photo shows the box sidewalls upside down and assembled with one side flap removed.

Cut away the corners of the smaller vertically scored rectangle piece (bottom right piece in the photo above) as shown in the photo below.  This is so that the side assembly will sit flush on the bottom. Adhere the scored rectangle to the bottom of the box as shown.

Adhere the wall assembly to the bottom of the box being sure to keep the box corners at a right angle and placing the side with the flap cut off over the attached scored piece.  Then adhere the top of the box to the other side of the scored rectangle.  Adhere the floor inside the box.

Now you have your basic box assembled and it's time for the fun part, embellishing!  I used a cut-apart from the collection and lots of flowers.  The darker solid pink flowers are handmade and I used Eileen's Thinlits Journaling Cards, Flowers and Leaves Set to cut the flowers.  I inked them up, gave the petals a twist with my tweezers, and stacked them.  Then I punched a hole in the center and added purchased floral stamens.

This is a perfect box for gifting, I think I'll give it to myself!!

Gift Box for Little Birdie Crafts

Today I'm sharing a Little Birdie Crafts flower bedecked box that anyone would love to receive, especially if you filled it with sweet treats or a special gift.

The box I am using is a plain paper mache box that I purchased.

The first thing I did was paint the box inside and out with white gesso.  Then I tore pieces of decoupage paper and applied to the box with decoupage glue but only below where the lid fits.  Be sure to apply glue to both the paper and the box for a good seal.   (If the lid does stick after painting you ca rub on a little wax and that will help keep it from sticking.)

I glue ribbon around the band of the lid and then added a beaded ribbon to add a festive touch!

Foi me, the best part of any project is adding beautiful blooms and I used lots and lots of gorgeous Little Birdie blooms on the lid.  I start off by adhering flowers at the edge and I glue them on their side so that I have some height.

Then I just keep layering up the flowers until I have a look that is pleasing.  I wanted a nice mix of flowers so I used a few flowers from several different packages to acheive the variety that I wanted.

Be sure to tuck in some leaves while you are building the flower layers.

And, don't forget a pretty bow to finish it off!
