It's a Dog's Life Layout for Creative Embellishments

Creative Embellishment's November challenge is up and it's based on this layout sketch with a twist to splash paint onto your prooject.

My Project

I chose my favorite subjects for this layout, my dogs and my husband!

I framed both my photos with the doily frame set, using the largest frame on the bottom photo and the medium frame on the upper photo.  I rubbed them with Sizzzix Luster Wax to make them gold.  I love their wax, it's so easy to apply with your finger or even a small paintbrush.  Once it's dried, it doesn't rub off.

Isn' this such a sweet picture, "a man and his dog".  Tisha is definitely Daddy's girl while Nika is mine!

I love all the grunge pieces at Creative Embellishments; this one's call Grunge Corner. I heat embossed most of it with Stampendous Aged Black and used a little wax on the bottom part.  I love the black powder mottled with gold and silver to give it an aged appearance.

I also used the Heart Bokeh Stencil and stenciled on some hearts,  I don't think that worked out too well as they kind of fade away but I was afraid red hearts would be "too much".

Our dogs are spoiled rotten and we wouldn't have it any other way.  These photos were taken in our motorhome and they ar sharing a seat in the picture above.  Ha, normally they each take a chair leaving us with no where to sit!  So I thought this title was rather appropriate!  It is heat embossed with black embossing powder.

Check out that adorable little dog bone in the lower left.  It's black acrylic and part of a line of laser cut acrylics at Creative Embellishments.    I really love the acrylics!

I used Graphic 45's new Well Groomed collection to make this layout and spashed on some black paint to meet the twist.  It is so perfect for dog and cat projects!

I hope to see your project entered into the November challenge!  Thanks for stopping by!

Spooky October Challenge for Creative Embellishments

Welcome to the  Creative Embellishments October challenge.  Here's the inspiration photo and the twist is to use your stash.  Now that's always a fun prospect!  I dug back into my Halloween stash and came up with these random papers.  I think Authentique Mysterious and Graphic 45 Happy Haunting, both old collections.  Then I used lots of scary Halloween chipboard pieces from the  Creative Embellishments store.

I made some fun witch's boots home decor to go with a witch's hat I made last year.  I just love Halloween projects; I think its the bright oranges, greens, yellows and purples so predominant in the Halloween color palette.

I heat embossed a chipboard spider web with Stampendous Aged Silver and in the center I placed a black heat embossed creepy spider.

Creative Embellishments has so many great titles for every occasion.  This Happy Halloween title was the perfect size for my Witch's Boot.  I used the Halloween Stencil tto mask spider webs on the boots.

Now my favorite find for this Halloween, these very cool black acrylic skull and bones!  There are two sizes in the set of  14 pieces.

The make way cool looking buttons!  YOu could sew them on through the eyes, but I just glued them on.

These boots will go great with last year's Witch's Hat don't you think?

February Challenge for Creative Embellishments

I made a large tag for the February Challenge and of course it's Valentine's themed.  I used a large tag (5.5 x 10") from Creative Embellishments and an older Graphic 45 collection, Mon Amour, for this romantic project.

The first thing I did was cover the tag with paper and then I stenciled on some hearts with the Heart Bokeh Stencil.

On the right side I used a CE chipboard piece that I heat embossed with Stampendous Shabby White. Then I wove a strip of design paper through the hearts.  On the left side I used two different piecs of chipboard that I heat embossed and cut each piece in two so that they would layer nicely under the flowers.

The solid heart is is a wood veneer piece that I inked with pink ink and then painted with white gesso.  The cut-out heart is also heat embossed.

November Creative Embellishments Challenge

Time for another Creative Embellishments challenge.  Can you believe it is November already?  Well let's just write 2020 off as a bad joke on the world and get on with 2021!  Yay, only two months to go.

While you're waiting for this horrible year to come to a close, why not join in the Creative Embellishments challenge?  It's easy, just see the rules at the end of this post.

Here's the November inspiration photo, aren't the colors gorgeous?  Our challenges always include a twist and this month the twist is to add a favorite quote to your project.

I decided to make a large tag featuring a favorite quote and fall colors.

To create my tage, i first covered a large tag with design paper and then die-cut a rectangle and the quote.  The Distressed Stamps are heat embossed with detail black embossing powder.  I used cardboard to pop up my layers and add dimension to my tag and then tucked the Distressed Stamps under the cut-apart quote.

Then I added a Prima vine and some larger Petaloo flowers. Simple, but effective I think!

Creative Embellishments Challenge for October

It's time for a new challenge on the Creative Embellishments Blog.  This month the challenge mood board is all about spooky!  The twist is to add something with wings to your project.  You can find the challenge entry rules at the bottom of this post.

I made two Halloween cards for the challenge.

I used a tombstone shaker and walking skeleton from Creative Embellishments for this first card.  I love this skeleton!  I used Distress Stain to add some color to him.  The stain works great as it leaves a mottled effect (doesn't show to much in the photo, it's much better IRL) rather than the flat look you get with paint.

The tombstone shaker is heat embossed on the inside with Ranger Antiquities in Cement.  A tip:  Glue the shaker outlines to the base BEFORE heat embossing as some adhesives don't stick well to the embossing.  I filled the shaker with sequins from Buttons Galore & More -Black Tie Mix.

The twist is to add some thing with wings and I did, on the inside!

On the next card I used a tag in the center and some black fabric rosettes to complete my spooky look.

I stenciled some bats on the tag to meet the twist of adding something with wings.  While that dried I a heat embossed a Halloween ATC coin and backed it with design paper.  I adhered the coin and a sentiment to the tag and glued the whole business to the card base.

I added simple sentiments inside and it's ready to send to someone special!

New Challenge at Creative Embellishments

Mood Board

Here it is September, already!  That means it's time for a new challenge at Creative Embellishment.  Here's the mood board,  I am drawn to that rusty truck!  The twist this month is to use rust on your project somewhere.  See the challenge entry requirements at the end of this post.

My Take on the Challenge

The old truck in the photo reminded me of this photo of my Dad taken after he wrecked his father's car, I think he rolled it in a ditch.

I used the Steampunk Gear Panel behind the photo to give it emphasis.  The gear panel is heat embossed with Stampendous Aged Copper.  The panel is 6 x 6, so it works well on layouts and cards.

On the left I used the Clock Corner.  This is a really cool Steampunk piece.  Gears and such always work well with masculine layouts, it doesn't have to be Steampunk.

The twist this month is to use rust so I used Prima rusting paste on some loose gears.  Don't you just love this effect, it looks so real!

Creative Embellishments July Challenge

Time for a new challenge at the Creative Embellishments Blog.  Here's the mood board, something will surely inspire you!  This twist this month is to use a birthday theme.

My Take on the Challenge

It's pretty obvious where the inspiration for this card came from as you can see one of the photos on the mood board is lilacs, and so, I chose Stamperia's Lilac Flowers collection to make this card.

I use a pretty photo corner in the upper left to anchor my lovely Little Birdie Crafts flowers.  The sentiment is from Small Sentiment Words set.  I used Stampendous Aged Wine Embossing Enamel to color both pieces of chipboard.  Then I just diecut several layers for the front.

I did a simple pop up on the inside using the pretty papers to make layers.

Step Card

The 2nd card is a step card that will stand up so prettily all on its own.

I used a Scribble Frame to group and highlight my chose embellishments.  It looks so nice on the center pane of the card.  I treated the frame with Stampendous Shabby Chic White Embossing Enamel.

I thought the pink polka dotted paper insdie was so pretty, I just left it as is and added the words from the Birthday Word set also heat embossed with Stampendous Shabby Chic White Embossing Enamel.

June Challenge at Creative Embellishments

The Challenge

It is June, already and that means it's time for a new challenge at the Creative Embellishments Blog.

Below is the inspiration photo and the twist this month is to use lace on your project.

My Take on the Challenge

I see a fairy gazing at her pet dragon in this photo and from that I was inspired to created a large tag of my sweet girl, Tisha.  For the twist, I used a piece of chipboard lace at the bottom of the tag.

I started by covering a large chipboard tag with design paper from Authentique's Purebred Collection.  Then I used the Distressed Grid Stencil to stencil on a pattern.  After the paste dried, I lightly brushed over it with Distress ink in Vintage Photo.  I also inked the tag edges with the same color.

The twist was to use lace on your project and I thought this lace chipboard border wa perfect for the twist.  I heat embossed it with Stampendous Aged Ivory Embossing Enamel, one of my favorite products for color chipboard.

I used a pair of corners, also embossed with Aged Ivory, underneath the photo, at the bottom left and upper right.

I popped up my layers to make the photo and sentiment really stand out.  Really, what greater love is there than that of your dog?  I am smitten with mine!
