Graphic 45 Round 2 Audition!

Good fortune is with me again as  I made it through the first round of design team auditions for Graphic 45!  So,on to the final round!  I saw so many wonderful auditions and I feel so honored to have been selected in the semi-final round.  Eeek, this process is really quite nerve-wracking, especially since I was out cruising in the Caribbean instead of working on my final audtion piece!

I decided to do a mini album tutorial for my final.  I used G45's mixed media album and the Precious Memories collection with a little bit of  the Mother Goose collection mixed in.

I also want to share this layout that I did today.  I chose a really old collection for this layout, Fashionista from 2009.  I just thought it was a perfect collection to pair with our flapper costumes that we wore for our photo shoot while cruising with the Graphic 45  family and so many G45ers.  It was so much fun!!

 I really love the royal blue in this collection.  Petaloo's sugared blooms match perfectly!

 I fussy cut these flowers from design paper in the collection and then topped with dimensional flowers to give the floral cluster depth.

 One of the design papers included this winged clock at the top so I fussy cut it out and popped it up.

Tutorial to make a fun top hat!

I was fortunate enough to go on the Caribbean Graphic 45 cruise with Craftours, and oh what fun we had crafting, sunbathing and visiting the fun island ports.  While cruising, I did a make an' take top hat that I want to share with you.  The basic hat is really easy to make and the fun part is embellishing it with feathers, flowers,  and whatever your imagination dreams up!  You can use any papers to make the hat and in my video I'll show you several hats, all made from different collections.

I made this hat with Graphic 45's DCE Times Nouveau collection.    For me, the fun part is adding tons of embellishments ending up sometimes with a rather interesting piece but so fun!

I made some flowers for my hat and I show you how to make these simple and quick flowers in my video.

I also used some great Petaloo burlap blooms on my hat and a stickpin that I made.

I also love things that dangle so I added some chipboard pieces cascading off the back of the hat along with the long ribbon tails.

 Graphic 45's keys are great for tucking into clusters as I did here with a couple of Shabby Chic Ornate Metal Keys.

Creative Embellishments and Flying Unicorn April KOM

Waving hi  here from the warm and sunny south!   I am loving our beautiful spring weather and I hope you're experiencing it too!  Today, I'm sharing a layout of my sweetheart and me.  I used some  Creative Embellishments chippies and the April Flying Unicorn Store  kit featuring Prima's Tales of You & Me.  These chippies coordinate so nicely with the papers and my theme.

The chipboard pieces are heat embossed with Stampendous shabby pink embossing enamel.   I love this flourish with its curly tendrils; its so romantic looking, and looks so great as a base for my floral cluster.

Our word borders make great titles and there are several different packages to choose from, so take a look.

My Testimony, a limerick:

Dick had a car that he drove real fast,

My husband restores old cars for fun, but, he doesn't do classic restorations.  Instead, he turns these old cars into streetrods that go fast!  This is a 48 convertible and it's a ratrod meaning it looks old and shabby; however, under the hood is a lot of power.

I found the perfect chipboard pieces in the store to embellish this layout  that I did with Graphic 45's City Scapes.  

I made a couple of rosettes from the design paper and topped with a gear colored with gold mist.

To color the chipboard, I just swiped it with a black ink pad.

Layout and tag with the April Flying Unicorn kit

This layout combines Prima's Tales of You & Me  with Vintage Emporium collections.  At first I had trouble combining the rose tones of the Tales collection with the yellow tones of Emporium but I found that by using some Vintage Photo Distress ink on the rose colors, I could pull all the colors together.



 I did lots of fussy cutting on this layout.  The strip in the center was fussy cut from the Jardin de Fleurs paper and the flowers to the left of the photo were fussy cut from Belles Melodies d'amour.



The wood butterfly that came in the kit is soooo pretty!!

I made this fun tag using the Secret Garden 6 x 6 papers and a great wooden tag that is in the kit.

To create my background, I stamped on some Prima Art Alchemy Acrylic Paint from the kit using Creative Embellishments Paint Splat Trio stamps from my stash.  This is such a great stamp set if you like to do grunge.  I just painted some paint on an acrylic stamp block, stamped my stamp into the paint and then stamped the paper.  I love the effect.  In this case, because I'm using pastel papers and paint, the effect is really not grungy, but cool nevertheless!

I tied a bow with ribbon from my stash and topped that with a Kaisercraft rose from the kit.

I used a gold Sharpie pin to high-lite the two round cutouts.

  And that sweet little cherub is from my stash,  It's a Prima resin piece that I brushed with some of the acrylic paint.

Flying Unicorn April Kit layout - Girls Reunion

I used the beautiful roses that came in the kit but darken them a bit with ink for this layout.  The gorgeous chippy is from Creative Embellishments and came in the kit.  I first painted it with the watercolors that came in the kit and then dabbed on a bit of Lindy's mist from my stash to give it a little sparkle.  Oh and that wine glass stick pin is probably my favorite thing in the kit, LOL!!  It is so appropriate for this photo of me and my two besties that I have known since we were in college and that was a really long long time ago!

The kit includes a 6 x 6 lace doily stencil that I used to stencil on some modeling paste from my stash.  The paste has a pearl finish and I love how it looks on this layout; it's so girly!

Our kits always include an off the page project too.  I love the OTP because it makes you think and helps get the creative processes going.

This month the OTP is a chicken wire jar holder that I turned into a luminary.

First I painted the jar holder with the Art Alchemy acrylic paint that came in the kit.  It's a pretty gold color with opal shimmer.    I dyed the white Kaisercraft flowers in the kit with Lindy's Bougainvillea Fuschia  and Burndt Red Glimmer Mist.  Of course I had to cut apart that wonderful Petaloo berry branch and tuck into my cluster.  Then I took some Flying Unicorn metal pieces from earlier kits and heat embossed them with aged ivory embossing enamel and tucked the pieces in the cluster.  As a final touch I added a nice silk ribbon and dry-brushed over it all with the Art Alchemy paint.

I turned the jar holder into a luminary by taking a piece of really old vellum and cutting it to fit inside.  I mean really old, like 10 years old!

 Well it's kinda hard to photo this such that you can see the flickering of the LED candle inside but here you can get the idea.
