More Cork Projects with Sizzix Cork Roll Surfacez

I'm still having fun with Sizzix Cork Roll Surfacez.  It's quite a versatile material as you can stamp it, paint it, emboss it, dress it up or dress it down.  So many possibilities!

I decided to put a feminine spin on cork and came up with this cute little box made with Eileen Hull's new Geometric Box XL Die.  I'm very haapy with the result!

I wanted to see what effect using an embossing folder would have on the cork.  As you can see, the cork embossed quite nicely!  I used Eileen's Woven Leather embossing folder on the triangle pieces.  After embossing, I lightly rubbed the pieces with gold and silver Sizzix Luster Wax.  I love the look!

I hot glued lace around the lid and added a pretty glass drawer pull to add to the feminine character of the box.

And of course, flowers, lots of flowers!

Another Cork Project:

I wanted to know how well the cork would hold a crease, and if the cork cracked and looked ugly along the crease lines, so I made this cute little shadowbox frame to show off a lighthouse photo I took.  As you can see in the photo, creasing the cork paper was no problem at all; the shadow box frame held it's shape quite nicely.

I did find that gluing the cork pieces together was not quite as easy as gluing regular cardstock.  After several unsuccessful tries with white glue, I resorted to hot glue.  While that had it's now set of challenges, I perservered and made it work!

I used the flower and leaf thinlits from the Shadow Box Frames #1 set to embellish the bottom of the frame.  Then I nestled in some tiny shells and starfish to complete the seaside vibe.

Supplies:

I love the cork paper, next I want to incorporate it into a 12 x 12 layout project.  If you want to see how it worked with mixed media, check out this post here.

Thanks for visiting!

  1. With all the ocean/beach photos i have the cork would be perfect to incorporate into those LOs and mini albums. Thanks for always pushing the envelope with new textures and new structural designs.
