G45 By the Sea

I think By the Sea is such a delightful collection and it was the perfect collection to scrap these photos of my great niece at the beach.  Her Mom is probably trying to remember the outfit she is wearing because it really is hot pink.  Thanks to the wonders of Photoshop it is now red!  That hot pink just looked awful on this paper!!

I fussy cut a lot of the shells and starfish and tucked them in all over my layout.  I cut out part of the title paper, By the Sea, and used that to set my scene.  I backed it with My Anchor and popped up the entire top page so as to have a slight shadow box effect.

The sea oats were cut with a Spellbinder's cat tails die.  Then I sprayed with Lindy's Grab a Guy Gold and glued on microbeads for the oat heads.

Lots of Petaloo Darjeeling flowers.  You can see how the top page is popped up the make a shadow box effect here

Graphic 45 Good Ol' Sport

I finally got Good Ol' Sport and found this picture of me and my brother.  It was perfect for this paper as he is holding a football trophy!

I've used chippies from ScrapFx.  That's a football from G45's tags and banners that I've glued to a 7 Gypsies photo turn and then applied a thick coat of glossy accents and then topped with a trinket from Prima's Nuts and Bolts.

New projects with Swirlydoo's May KOM, Bohemian Spring.

I'm thrilled to share 3 more projects that I did with the May KOM, Bohemian Spring!  And as a little something extra, I'm sharing a sketch that I did with you.

This layout is  really a simple layered layout, but I thought the photo was so sweet and goes with the papers so well that I didn't see a need to add alot to it.

Here's my sketch, I reversed it and left out one of the strips.

I just love these Petaloo Botanica blooms that I got from the store.  I think I ordered every color!!

I added the chipboard title from my stash, its ScrapFx and of course I heat embossed it with Stampendous shabby pink embossing enamel.

You know I'm the crazy poodle lady, LOL!  I wanted to make a tag and I wanted to use the divan from the April kit.  Oooh then I remember my cute little poodle die and nex thing I knew, this sweet little pink poodle was sitting on the couch just like a little princess!  You know I have a poodle die  and I confess that I look for reasons to use it!

I made the tag from a scrap of the Authentique paper in the kit and then masked the it using a Prima stencil.  Then I layered on some of the Kaisercraft collectibles from the Embellishments kit and I used cardboard to pop up the layers..  The little beads at the bottom and fibers are from my stash as are the flowers.  They are left overs from other projects and kits.

I love the words on this Collectible tag!

Here's that gorgeous pelican again!  The color of the water just went so perfectly with this sheet of paper, I had to use him again!  I fussy cut the white flowers and doily from the SEI paper.

I love the clear blue floral vine in the Embellishment addon , it was just right for this page.  I also added a tiny sprig of blue to that cluster that came from the January 2012 KOM!  Guess I'm guilty of hoarding that !

Thanks so much for visiting our blog.  I can't wait to see your creations with the May kit.

Cardstock and woven paper flower tutorial.

A couple of days ago, I posted this video and promised you a tutorial for making the large flower, well here it is!

Closeup

This is the flower that I made in the video.  I've used the Sizzix Alterations Tattered Floral die for this flower whereas in the flower above I used a Paper Artist Bodacious Blooms die.

The music note paper is SEI woven paper and came in the Swirlydoos March kit.  I think it is in part fabric.  It feels like a cross between a dryer sheet and iron on fabric.  My standard repetoire of distressing and twisting did not work on this paper so I decided to heat it and that worked just fine!

Here's a video of how I made the flower, if you have any questions be sure to leave me a comment and I will post an answer back.

If you give my flower a go, I'd love to see it, leave me a link!

I made a card!!! Now that is quite unusual for me!

My scrappy friends know that making cards is not my "thing," however, I decided that this year was my year to conquer the card!  So at Swirlydoos we have a card round robin every month.  Well I gathered up my courage and signed up, yikes it was scarry as the "twist" this month was to make a step card!  Ahhh but Cameo to the rescue; there just happened to be a Cameo cut for the perfect step card.

I followed Angelica aka Saga who makes gorgeous cards and she inspired me in a major way!!   Here is Angelica's card, isn't it just incredible?

I used Angelica's basic design but made it my own with a completely different color palette and style.  Once again I used Prima's Stationer's Desk, I just can't get enough of these papers!

The roses are handmade rolled roses and are really easy to do if you have a quilling tool.

Prima Stationers' Desk - Swirlydoos March KOM

I so love Stationer's Desk that was featured in the March Swirlydoos kit!  These papers are so perfect for vintage photos.  Here I've used a picture of my parents sitting on the a bridge that has since been abandoned, in front of a grist mill.  They are 16 - 17 years old in this photo and on a date.  I just love how dressed up they are and lvoing their shoes!

The large flower is handmade using some cardstock and paper from the March KOM.

That gorgeous circle frame is from Leaky Shed Studios and is their large Ring Frame.  I've embossed it with Stampendous aged silve embossing enamel.  You know that is my favorite product to use with chipboard!

I've also used Prima's Stationer's Desk wooden  embellishments, tags and chipboard pieces on this layout.

Stay tuned for a tutorial on how I made this flower using the SEI music note paper that was in the March kit.

Thanks for stopping by, I really appreciate it and love reading the comments you leave for me!

HUG HARDER
I was immediately drawn to this colorful sheet of paper and chose it to use with this month's sketch.  I brushed on a little watered down gesso to tone the pattern down a wee bit as my photo was totally lost. I used Shimmerz Texturz from my stash  to mask a circle around the music paper circle.  Otherwise everything is from the main kit and addons.  The leafy swirls are Cameo cuts.

Be Your Own Kind of Beautiful

This kit has so many possibilities, everything from grunge, see below, to girly like this layout. You can definitely go in alot of directions with this kit as you can see from all the really different layouts done by the design team.

Well we know that Swirlygirls are all about flowers so I thought that this floral paper was perfect to scrap this photo of me, Kim and Jan in Chicago, CHA 2011.   I added a doily from my stash, otherwise everything is from the main kit and addons.  I seriously  adore that  Prima Garden Sink that came in the main kit!

Moments

My dh and I were on a bay cruise in Naples, FL when this brown pelican just flew up and landed on the boat's rail and stayed there for at least 15 minutes allowing anyone to sit and be photographed with him.

I love the Izink that came in the Mediums add on, and that is what I used to make my drips.    I did discover that the ink can clog a little in the dripper but I just used a straight pin and it unclogged quite easily.  The papers, bling flower centers, and lightbulbs all came from the main kit.  I used metal flowers and chipboard from my stash to embellish this manly layout.  I used the liquid pearls in the main kit to randomly paint the metal pieces.  The gears are heat embossed with Stampendous aged bronze embossing enamel.

Bradley

This is really a simple LO but I love the look. Of course having these two cutie pie photos of our grandson doesn't hurt that's for sure! Grandpa gave him a cool toy that makes noise when you press a button and he was delighted with that. In the one photo he is saying Ooooh upon hearing the sound. I cut and crumpled some of hte natural webbing that is in the Embellishments add on to layer under the flowers. I think that's a fun natural look with these gorgeous Petaloo botanica flowers.

Swirlydoos celebrates NSD with some great challenges!

I'm hosting a couple of fun challenges in honor of National Scrapbooking Day at Swirlydoos.  Our theme for our crop is "Home Sweet Home" and we've planned our challenges around this theme.  Be sure to stop by and see the other challenges hosted by our design team.

My first challenge is to do some art journaling using a home related quote. Believe me, I worked hard at putting this together as art journaling doesn't come easy for me. But I persevered and I'm happy with this.

I masked, misted, stamped, painted, masked some more, etc etc etc and this is the end result!

fusible webbing at the top.

Marcasite embossing powder on the fence.

My 2nd challenge is a tag challenge.  I love making tags, they are quick art projects that can be used with gifts, or as a gift itself.  I always have fun creating layers and seeing just how much "stuff" I can cram onto one tag!

For this tag I used the Swirlydoos March kit that features Prima's Stationers Desk collection.  I really love love this line!  I used my Cameo to cut out the quote and popped it up with foam squares.

Thanks for stopping by, hope you'll join us in the Swirlydoos forums!
