My Card/Tag challenge at the Flying Unicorn

Here's another tag with a Leaky Shed Studio Julie Nuttig chipboard doll.  These dolls are just so cute, I love putting them on tags.  This started out as a mixed media tag, as you can see on the background,  but I ended up covering most of that. LOL, that often happens to me. I This is 4" Princess and I painted her dress with Perfect Pearls gold and the ruffle is Luminarte pink cloud.

I made this tag as inspiration for a card or tag challenge that I am hosting at the Flying Unicorn this month.  I would love for you to come join my challenge, come play with us!  You do not have to use our kits or products, anything goes in our challenges, and you'll have a chance to win a great RAK that will be awarded to one randomly chosen player!

Supplies:
Stampedous Aged Gold Embossing Enamel
Kaisercraft bling

Leaky Shed chipboard, available at the Flying Unicorn store!

Hi everyone and happy Wednesday!  Maggi here today to share my favorite chipboard embellishment technique.  I love Leaky Shed Studio's chipboard embellishments, they just add so much to a layout!  Here I've added a couple of Leaky Shed keyholes and a key.  I love how they add just the right touch of vintage to this layout.

Notice how the keyhole looks pitted and tarnished.  I achieved that look by first covering my chipboard with brass cream rubon.  You could just as well paint the chippy too.  Then I dabbed on a little embossing ink, (I use an embossing ink dabber from Stampendous rather than an ink pad), being careful not to cover the entire chipboard, then I sprinkled on Stampendous Aged Bronze embossing enamel.  That is my go to enamel for chippies!   I wanted to be sure and keep the detailed lines visible on the chipboard so I took a needle and drew it through the lines to clean out any embossing powder that had adhered to the grooves.  You can also take a fine paint brush and sweep off some of the powder if you have too much.  Now you are ready to heat set the powder and this is the result.

I just love the look on this key!

Teresa Collins Memorabilia at the Flying Unicorn

Hi everyone, take a look at this great new collection from Teresa Collins, Memorabilia.  I loved this mostly black base sheet, Recorded.  I used Prima's bubbles mask and Shimmerz TextureZ in patina to add some texture and lighten up the black background.  The flag banner is printed on the paper but there are lots of tag cutouts in the collection and I've added them under both my flower clusters and layered some around my photo.

The heart swirl below is something  I cut on my Cameo and then heat embossed with Stampendous aged gold embossing enamel.  I love those dangling hearts!

The blue flowers are all Petaloo Textured blossoms except the largest, which is handmade..  I ADORE these flowers, can't tell you how many of them I've been through in the last two months!!

A special challenge from Tammy and me

You all know that I recently lost my dear poodle Chena.  Thank you for the kind messages of sympathy that you all left for me..  I cried through them all and felt so loved because of your kindnesses.  Chena was very special and she made many friends in the scrapbook world through her escapades with Escape Kitty.

Tammy also recently lost her sweet Macy who was only 9 years old and I know she has been as broken hearted as I have been.  We have joined together to honor our furbabies with a special challenge and we want your help.  You can see our challenge here at the Flying Unicorn.

All you have to do is upload a project featuring an animal - dogs, cats, birds, lizards, it doesn't matter, to our gallery and our challenge.  It can be a card, tag, altered, layout, you name it, anything goes as long as it features an animal.  For every project posted in the Flying Unicorn gallery AND in our challenge thread, Tammy and I will donate $5 to Best Friends Animal Society to a maximum of $250.  That's 50 projects, can you do it gals??  Ask your friends to post their projects too.

Always in our hearts, Chena and Macy.

YOu can help us out another way too.  The Flying Unicorn store is donating 5% of November sales to Best Friends (shop, shop, shop!!) AND donating $1 for each project loaded into our gallery during the month of November up to $1,000.  So please come share your work with us in our gallery!  We need your help to reach this goal 'cause I've already uploaded everything I've ever done!!

Thanks for stopping by and I'd love for you to leave me a comment about your furbabies!

Leaky Shed Julie Nuttig dolls at the Flying Unicorn!

I seriously love these Julie Nuttig chipboard dolls from Leaky Shed Studios and they are available at the Flying Unicorn store.!!  This one is named Classy and she is 4", just perfect for adding to your tags and cards.

I've used Graphic 45 Typography collection to make the tag.  This collection is so perfect for card and tag making, there are so many great graphics perfect for fussy cutting!  The Flying Unicorn store carries most of Graphic 45's available collections so check it out!

Below is a small flower corner chipboard design from Leaky Shed Studio.  I have covered it with Stampendous aged black embossing enamel.

 Supplies:
Patterned paper:  G45 Typography collection:  black dot -Inscribe 4500770 , green patterned - Celebrate 4500768 , red stripe - Create 4500769, Write your story cut apart - Imagine 4500773 , small cut apart - Dream 4500771, Typography stickers 4500777, Typography chipboard 4500778
Chipboard: Leaky Shed Studio Julie Nuttig doll 1205-01 and Flower Corner small 362s -
Embossing powder:  Stampendous aged black embossing enamel
Diecuts and punches:  Spellbinders Bella Rose misted with Lindy's Gator Gumbo Olive
Flowers:   handmade, Prima SIIP 530815 and SIIS 530976 flower centers
Ink:  Distress Black soot
Paint - Luminarte Sand Dollar, Shimmerz coffee, Smooch green and Nautical Navy
Other:  May Arts green ribbons, Spare parts burlap ribbon

Next up is Holly on a tag done with Graphic 45 Twelve Days of Christmas (my favorite Christmas collection this season!)  She is 4" tall (also available in 8") and she's dressed for a Christmas ball!  Her gown is paper pieced and her hair and skin are painted with watercolors.  Rather than cutting individual pieces for the folds in the green part of her gown, I used a colored pencil to shade in the fabric folds.

The little frame behind Holly is a Spellbinder's diecut piece.  I sprinked a little aged gold embossing enamel around the edge of the frame and heat embossed it. I used some Petaloo mini red poinsettias to complete the look.

One thing I really love is the little holly sprig at her waist, that is a separate piece of chipboard and so it stands out quite nicely, love it!

Supplies:

Graphic 45 Twelve Days of Christmas
Petaloo Mini Poinsettieas
May Arts Ribbon
Stampendous Aged Gold Embossing Enamel
Prima Julie Nuttig tag

Here's a shabby little tag featuring a 4" Classy Julie Nuttig doll, (also available in 8").   I used STudio 75 papers for this tag that came in the November Flying Unicorn kit.  This time I painted the chipboard with Cladia Hellmuth acrylic paints.  I added a piece of beaded white lace to accessorize her dress.  Again I used Spellbinder's diecuts to accent my doll.

After I painted her with acrylics, I painted embossing ink on her dress and embossed with clear embossing powder.  It gives her dress a nice sheen, like a soft silky fabric.  The sash is a separate piece of chipboard so it was easy to color a different color and then glue to the main body of the doll.

Supplies:

Leaky Shed Studio Classy Julie Nuttig doll 4"
Studio 75 Rosalie in the Garden paper collection
Prima Shabby Chic Resin Treasures
Prima wood butterfly
Claudia Hellmuth acrylic paint
Hobby Lobby lace - around the tag
May Arts ribbon

Aren't these dolls just the cutest?  The 4" dolls are really perfect for embellishing a card or tag.    Stop by the Leaky Shed Studio blog to see more of these awesome Julie Nuttig dolls, we'll be featuring them there all week.

Thanks for stopping by!

Sneak peek of a tag I did for Leaky Shed!

My first post for Leaky Shed Studio design team is up on their blog today!  That's kind of exciting for me.  I hope you'll pop over and take a look.  Here's a little sneak peek.  Can you guess that it is something done with Graphic 45 Twelve Days of Christmas?  Check it out, its perfect for the holidays coming way too soon!

Nov Flying Unicorn off the page project

The November KOM has a really fun off the page project!  Its a wooden block calendar that can be made to use as a daily calendar but I chose to use it as a Christmas countdown.  I added the chipboard frame  to spice up the Christmas look!  Of course I used Graphic 45 Twelve Days of Christmas for this.  I just can't get enough of this collection,  it is soooooo gorgeous!!

The green bow is made with vintage seam binding that my Mom gave me.  It was in a package that was priced at 19¢!  LOL, that tells you how old it is!  I used Stampendous aged green and chunky white embossing enamel to cover the raw chipboard frame.

Made with Graphic 45's 12 Days of Christmas collection, available at the Flying Unicorn store.

Creations with the Flying Unicorn Nov KOM

November is such a special month at the Flying Unicorn because it is the month the we unite to give something back and this year we've chosen one of my favorite charities, Best Friends Animal Society.  Best Friends is a wonderful no-kill animal shelter that houses around 1700 homeless animals, everything from dogs to pigs to birds to bunnies and everything in between.  Best Friends works throughout the US to promote spay/neuter programs, animal adoption and no kill shelters.  In the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, Best Friends was instrumental in rescuing animals left stranded and homeless.

Don't forget the blog hop going on right now!

Hop to win it - you have till 6:00pm tonight !! start at : www.flyingunicornblog.com

Tammy and I are hosting a very special challenge this month and I do hope that you will take a minute to visit our challenge at the Flying Unicorn.  You'll find our challenge here.  As many of you know, I recently lost my dear Chena and Tammy lost her Macy and so we wanted to do something special to honor their memories. We will donate $5, up to $250 to Best Friends, for each project that is uploaded to our challenge that features an animal.  It can be a card, a tag, a layout, whatever you want.  All you have to do is upload your project here.  (If you are not already a member of Flying Unicorn, you will have to join but that is easy).  Please help us reach our goal!!!

I know some of you are familiar with the adventures of Escape Kitty and Chena.  Jen and I have had so much fun writing stories about these two.   I just want to share a little bit about Chena with you.  She was a really special girl, she was so child like and such a clown!  She was confident, not afraid of anything.  You know how many dogs are afraid of fireworks?  Not Chena, she would sit outside and watch the fireworks with us.  She was so silly; its just a little thing, but its the thing I am missing the most.  She would sit on the floor near the dinner table with us and invariably stick her head under the tablecloth and then raise her head up.  There she'd sit with her head covered by the tablecloth begging for a tidbit.  Then she'd come out from under the tablecloth with a big grin on her face.  Or I'd tell her to lay down.  Oh yeah, she would lay down but not like a normal dog.  Oh no, she'd jump up and do this big belly flop on the floor.

Nika, our younger poodle, was heartbroken when Chena passed.  Its been almost 2 months now and Nika is just now getting her appetite back.  To help Nika get over her loneliness, we got sweet puppy Tisha.  They are the best of friends now and Nika is once again, a happy girl.

Here are a couple of layouts of sweet Tisha on a layout that I did with the November KOM.  I used Marion Smith's Mad Tea Party papers that came in the kit on this layout.  Oooh I love this paper!!

These are Prima wooden mushrooms and they are from my stash.  I first inked them with Mix'd Media Inx in leather and then embossed on one side only, with Stampendous aged spice embossing enamel.  I love the effect that this gave!
