Just my Type Challenge @ The Frilly and Funkie Blog

The Challenge

Today begins a new challenge at the Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog and Jenny is hosting this time around and she says,  "As a trained touch typist I love vintage typewriters. I love the way they look and sound and the font they create. For this challenge create a vintage or shabby chic project and include a typewriter, typewriter keys, typeface. "For this challenge create a vintage or shabby chic project that includes a typewriter, typewriter keys, or typeface.

My Take on the Challenge
Many of you that join in the Frilly and Funkie Challenges are so great at stamping and using inks.  Me, hmmm, not so much.  I like challenges to be learning experiences so I hauled out some alcohol inks, stamps and Distress Specialty Stamping paper.  First I added drops of alcohol ink onto my stamping paper, letting it pool and blend together.  Then I used black archival ink to stamp on the alphabet you see as well as the Write Your Story stamp.

I started with a piece of type paper from Graphic 45's Typography collection and used Tim Holtz's Traveler stencil to stencil on some travel words.  Then I used Distress Ink - Black Soot to color the stenciled words. Next I layered on the alcohol inked papers and a photo of myself at the ripe old age of 19!  I used a bit of crocheted black cotton lace around the stamped paper layer and added some flowers.

I stamped the typewriter on Distress Specialty Stamping Paper and then fussy cut it out.  Then I covered it with Distress Collage Medium Crazing.  That cracked nicely but it also curled up.  Not a good thing!   So I attempted to "fix it" by filling in the cracks with Glossy Accents.  That left the cracks and held it together so I guess its ok but I wouldn't do this particular process again.  I embedded the pen nib in the wet Glossy Accents.

How to Enter the Challenge

Create a vintage or shabby chic project that includes a typewriter, typewriter keys, or typeface,
and link it up to the Frilly and Funkie Challenge.

The Design Team will choose their top four picks, with the winner being invited to be a guest designer in one of our Frillie and Funkie challenges. The other three winners will receive Top 3 badges to display on their blogs. Everyone who enters and follows the rules will be entered into a draw to have the chance to win a $25 spending spree at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.
