Flying Unicorn's new creative team!

The day is here!! We are so ready to reveal the 2012-2013 of our Creative Team! We know that this team will inspire, excite and motivate you in a world of Creative Bliss. So without further adieu let me introduce to you Flying Unicorn's Creative Team :

DENISE JENSEN - Creative Team Director

My name is Denise Jensen and I’ve been scrapbooking for almost 13 years now. I’m a married mother of 4 (3 girls and 1 boy, well he is a man now) and grandmother of a very beautiful boy! I work at a center as the Recreation Coordinator for children with special needs. My darling husband is a police officer and between work and family, we are kept pretty busy in our little town of Marion, North Dakota. My children are all involved in sports and I like it that way, it keeps them busy!! I am a Girl Scout Leader, Sunday School teacher and Special Olympics Track and Field coach as well.

Scrapbooking is a passion of mine. I love what I do. I try to create something every day. I believe scrapbooking is an expression, not a competition. I also believe in sharing our love for this craft. Each one of us creates in our own beautiful way and there is so much to learn from one another.
I am the proud Creative Team Director for Flying Unicorn and love it! I have learned so much since I joined and have made some fabulous friends!

MAGGI HARDING - Creative Team Coordinator

My name is Maggi Harding and I live in North Carolina, USA, with my wonderful husband and two standard poodles that we refer to as the spoos. They are my children and of course, I do a lot of layouts featuring my furkids.

In 2005, I thought it would be a great idea to make each of my two best friends from college a scrapbook filled with memories of the 35 years that we have known each other. I was immediately hooked on this art form as I finally found something that combines my love of photography and writing with my artistic longings. Scrapbooking is my passion and I spend most of my free time pursuing my "scrappy" dreams. Through scrapbook art, I have awakened my "inner artist"!

I describe my style as eclectic vintage/shabby chic. I love to liven up a layout with bright and contrasting colors. I love scrapping 12 x 12 pages but I also have a real love for making paperbag albums and off the page projects. For me, scrapbooking is an artistic adventure, what can I create, how can I make this piece of paper come to life? Along with scrapping the pictures, I love to tell the stories and often reflect on how to tell the story hidden in my photographs.

SHONA KEEHN- Creative Team

My name is Shona Keehn and I am from British Columbia, Canada. I have 3 children, lots of grand babies and a wonderful husband of 26 years. He is pretty supportive with my scrapping addiction and tries not to blow a gasket when I spend too much on it…lol

I have been scrapping for many years but have just found my scrappy style in the last year or so, Shabby Chic, and it is definitely something that I change up lots. I am always trying new techniques and love to make embellishments. I love to start with palettes and sketches. I find it amazing all the variations from just one starting point.

I get so much inspiration from everyone in the scrapping world and I hope that you can get some from me.

Tammy Henderson- Creative Team

Hello, my name is Tammy Henderson (aka Simplyme). I have 2 wonderful teenagers that keep me going and a wonderful husband; we have been married for 18yrs. I live in the Bootheal area of MO. I’m just a small town girl having a blast in the scrapping world! I have been doing this wonderful craft since 2005 and have been hooked every since. I love all types of art and the different mediums. I think that is the thing that has kept me in love with this craft, because it’s not the same ole thing. Anything goes and the sky is the limit. I absolutely love getting to combine pictures of my loved ones, with my favorite thing in the world ART! I have been a Creative Team member for 7mths for Flying Unicorn. I love every minute of it! My favorite embellies to use is Flowers!! Rare will you ever see a project done without one!

Laura Ghully- Creative Team

Hi everyone I'm Laura (aka Angelbear). I am so proud to be on this wonderful Creative Team, with all of these amazing and talented ladies!
I live in a small town in beautiful south-western Ontario, Canada. I am a small town girl, and get lost in the big cities lol! I am a stay at home mom to 2 fantastic and energetic little boys - Cody is 11 and Ty is 10. They are 13 months apart and they keep me hoping! I am always busy with something with them!!!! I am happily married for 12 years to my best friend and the most patient & handsome man on earth, Jon. He keeps me grounded, is always there for me and NEVER asks how much I spent on scrappy stuff! He is a long haul truck driver, so it is just me and our boys all week, but when he is home, it all about us!
I started scrapping years ago when my sister took me to a Creative Memories beginner class and I although I really enjoyed it I just wasn't a Creative Memories scrapper and soon struck out on my own. I found a few very helpful and friendly sites on the web and have been trying new things and learning ever since. That's why I LOVE being on the creative team....I learn so much from these talented ladies!!!! I think my style is eclectic. sometimes I like a very clean and simple layout, sometimes my layouts are more layered and sometimes I ink, tear, layer and distress my projects! With my husband on the road, and two very active boys to keep me busy, I don't have a lot of time to myself to scrap so I make time! Almost every night after the kids go to bed, I take out my supplies and try an do something scrapbooking oriented every day to give me some 'me' time. My family is the focus of my life, my inspiration, and my motivation to scrapbook.

Kelly Foster- Creative Team

My name is Kelly Foster, I am 25 years old. I am enjoying a busy life in Minnesota, with my other half, Jeremy, and our two beautiful red-headed little girlies, Lilah (2) and Paisley (2 months). I started scrapbooking 2 years back, just wanting to preserve the thousands of photos I was taking!! I quickly became active with the online scrapbooking world, and my creativity just kind of "took off" and I have learned so much!! I am constantly experimenting with my style, but if I had to define what I'm currently doing, I'd call it "shabby/artsy/chic." I love lots of distressing, layering, and a little bit of messy. I love mixing lots of patterns together, and searching through the mess on my desk for fun bits and pieces to add to my layouts!! I've recently begun making cards, as well. I am currently designing for Once Upon A...Sketch, and 2 Crafty Chipboard.

Jackie Clark- Creative Team

My name is Jackie Clark. I live in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada with my husband (who happens to be my highschool sweetheart) and our three boys. Elliot is nearly 6, Brennan is 3 and Colby just turned 1 so needless to say we are very busy! Fortunately like most young boys our sons are constantly on the go, providing ample photographic fodder for my scrapping addiction. My husband rolls his eyes when I say scrapbooking is cheaper than therapy and mutters something under his breath, but despite his doubts he is incredibly supportive of my hobby, even when it takes over the kitchen counter and dining room table. Still hands make me twitchy, and going several days without doing something creative leaves me climbing the walls, and as they say, happy wife, happy life!

I was introduced to scrapbooking at a Creative Memories party 12 years ago and I was instantly hooked. My style has grown and developed over the years and I am constantly learning and evolving as a scrapbooker. I have a pretty eclectic style — I enjoy shabby chic, and have been known to strew flowers and glitter over my boy pages, but I also like to change things up and go grungy. I love making cards; in my mind giving a handmade card is a way of telling the people in my life how special they are to me. Recently I have been delving into Mixed Media and I am IN LOVE! Whether it is the brightness of Dylusions sprays and Dyan Reaveley’s funky stamps or Finnabair’s dark paints and salvaged computer parts, I can’t wait to get down and dirty, and wear my ink-stained hands as a badge of honor.

Adrienne Ford- Creative Team

Hi There!
My Name is Adrienne Ford. I was born and raised in Pennsylvania U.S.A and currently live here with my loving husband, and two beautiful babies- Luke, my rough and tumble yet sweet as pie two year old and my beautiful baby girl Karina. I am a kindergarten teacher by trade, but have left that field to be a stay-at-home mama for the time being. I have enjoyed going down this road of staying at home with my kiddos, but I could not do it without a cup of coffee in hand!

I got into scrapbooking when my son was born in 2010, so I am fairly new at this awesome hobby. I found that I not only needed a way to house all my gorgeous photos of him, but I also needed a creative outlet that was just for me. ( My husband was also was begging me to get a hobby!)
Since then I have been evolving as a scrapper and have been creating like crazy!

I absolutely LOVE flowers, misting, and chipboard which are normally incorporated in most of my layouts. I also enjoy playing with Art Mediums, white space, and clustering elements on my page. But one thing stays the same throughout-my joy and love of scrapbooking is ever-evolving and I love trying new techniques- the more artsy-the better!

Stephanie Eaken Creative Team

Hi!

My name is Stephanie Eaken& I am a 39 year-old (& holding!) stay-at-home mom. I have two kids who keep me busy, entertained & scrapping! My daugter is 9 & my son is 5. We live in Richmond, VA with my husband of 13 years & our two dogs!
I love all things related to scrapbooking! I started scrapping about 9 years ago when my oldest was a baby & have not stopped!! I look forward to my scrappy time in my space in our basement. I am currently on the design team for Let's Capture These Sketches.

Monica Edwards - Creative Team

Hi my name Monica Edwards and I have been crafting since I was a teen.

It has only been the last 2 years that I ventured out into the blog and FB world and this is what opened my eyes to so many of the different facets of craft. My claim to fame was my flowers they “no pun intended” was what made me bloom.

I have 2 kids and have been married for over 20 years. I would say I am like a chameleon I change color or style. I enjoy the fun bright yet I also love the vintage, grunge look as well.

I believe they all can be mixed together in one way shape or form and that’s what makes crafting endless.

Tracey Gregory - Product Creative Team

Hi there-My name is Tracey Gregory I am a
married mother of 4 and a RN regional manager which has me on the road quite
often.I have been scrapping since 2005 and
have had the pleasure/"bragging rights" of being published several times in your
magazine, SNR and various Website challenges.

I am mostly a 12 x 12
distressed, shabby type scrapper but am driven by colr, texture and great
inspiration-those ideas that grab you and keep you misting and pasting til 2 am.

I like to try different "off the page" crafts as well.

and then there is Me ....

Flying Unicorn August KOm sneek peaks!

I think the kits just keep getting better and better and the August kit is a really big WOW!!!  It's like Christmas for me every month when my kit comes because Alda never tells us what's in the kits so I get a suprise every month!  Love that!  The Flying Unicorn kits are available on a first come basis and go  on sale at  12:01 am August 3rd.  You will find the kit here in the store.

Here are some sneak peeks!

The kit is really versatile  - you can go girly, grunge it up, or give it a guy spin.  Your imagination is the only limitation.

One of my favorite parts of the Flying Unicorn kits is the Off the Page project and there is always an OTP included in every kit every month!  Do check them out, I think you'll be really surprised at all that is packed into the main kit.

G45 featured at the Flying Unicorn

The Flying Unicorn has all of its G45 papers on sale, 20% off.  Love that!!

Here's a G45 layout I did using one of their older collections, Botanicabella.  I've used this line of paper several timesand I'm always happy with the end result.

Sweet Nika looks so regal after just having had a bath and haircut!  That poor little tree in the background used to be a bigger tree but hurricane Irene that came through here last fall took it out and this little tree has sprouted from the stump that remained.

For this layout I've used Bird in Paradise, Love Letters, Secret Garden and Botanicabella, all from the Botanicabella collection.  The small brown flower vine is Petaloo as are the brown vines on the right.  The flowers are Recollections.  The paw print ribbon is something I picked up from the dollar bin at Michaels.  This is just a simple layered layout but it shows off my Nika so nicely!

The Flying Unicorn store has many of G45's collections available, go check it out!!

The Flying Unicorn and Graphic 45!

The Flying Unicorn store is a great place for shopping for Graphics 45 paper collections, old and new.  Some of those older collections can be hard to find; check the store, you'll be suprised at what you'll find!  I love G45's vibrant colors and heavy weight paper.  Their colors are so saturated and rich.  You know me, I love to add pops of color to otherwise somber papers and G45 is so perfect for that.
For this LO I've used a sheet of this year's Kraft Reflections release, Express Yourself,  as my base paper.  The Kraft Reflections papers are a great neutral that work with most any paper collection.  To that I added bold circles of color cut from the Playtimes Past collection, Jack & Jill and Life's a Ball papers.

The photos are of my great niece celebrating her first birthday.  Oh my goodness, she was soooo cute, she literally picked up a piece of cake and smushed it into her face.  When she was a newborn she had a really difficult time digesting food and it took quite some time to sort all her problems out, and one of the by-products of all that was she was a hungry baby who couldn't eat.  Well let me tell you, she is making up for it now, that little girl is a total chow hound!!  When she finished her cake, she started wailing for more!!

My First Birthday

I made the red flowers using Alterations Tattered Floral die and the centers were made with McGill's starburst.  I layered these flowers over Petaloos flowering vines in yellow.  Then I snipped some yellowed ribbons bits to tie in to my niece's dress.  The black flourishes are cut with a Sizzix die appropriately called Flourish.

My First Birthday closeup

Honestly, I don't think there is any other paper better than G45.  OOOOH they have some awesome new collections coming out, I can't wait to get my hands on Birdsong!!  The G45 new collection Ladies Diary is in the store, you're going to want some of that I am sure

Loving G45 Ladies Diary!!

I was soooo excited to finally get my hands on this gorgeous Graphic 45 Ladies Diary collection.  It is soooo gorgeous.  I love this photo of my Mom and her sister taken in Washing DC in 1942 and I thought it was just perfect for using with this G45 collection.  and you know what is ever so cool, the Flying Unicorn has all of its G45 collections on sale now at 20% off their already great price!  You definitely want to get on that!

All the papers I have used are from the Ladies Dairy collection.  I did this as inspiration for a a challenge that Tammy has going on, to use 2 different border cuts and handmade flowers on a layout and a butterfly.  You can see my tiny butterfly at the top of the stickpin I made.

I diecut the flowers from the Alterations Tattered Floral die using Tim Holtz's glassine paper and I confess, it is one of my favorite things, I use it all the time on vintage layouts.  I brushed bronze Perfect Pearls powder on my flowers and then heat set with my heat gun to give them so sparkle, you can see in especially in the bottom photo.

Journal:  My Mother, and her oldest sister, Elsie.  It was a different time in 1942.  As I rummage through old photographs that my Mother has handed down to me, I am always fascinated by the styles of that era.  I love how pretty they always look in their tailored clothing, their hair fixed just so, they look so perfectly groomed.   Look at the pleats and tucks on their coats.  They do have on sensible shoes, perhaps they were on their way to work.  Mom worked as a nurse’s aide at Doctor’s Hospital in Washington, D.C.

Thanks for stopping by!!!  I always appreciate you visits!

More July Flying Unicorn KOM creations!

I posted this layout during our July 2nd blog hop, but I wanted to give you some more details on its creation.  I used Fabscraps Victoria and Bella Vintage Chic collections for this layout of my sweet puppy Nika.  Here she is stacked in a perfect poodle pose just after her first adult haircut.

I've used a lovely Manor House large bloom to accent my page and surrounded the bloom with Petaloo floral vines in blue.  The small pink flowers are Primas and I think they are the perfect finishing touch to this layout.  I don't often mix pink and blue together, that's a tough color combo for me but I do like how this turned out.  If you look closely, you'll see two beautiful blue stickpins made for me by my good friend, Bitsy, from the Flying Unicorn Forums.  Thank you Bitsy!  Other than the stickpins and the journal ticket, everything is included in the July kits.

Here I am, so many years ago, 1981 to be exact, in my wedding finery!  Again I used a mix of Bella and Fabscraps on this layout.  The main green/floral sheet of paper was a bright green, too bright for the look I wanted, so I painted over it with white gesso.  Try this sometime when you want to tone down some color.

The gorgeous flowers are from Manor House - the largest is a Plain Jane that I colored with Glimmer Mist Colored Shells and the two smaller ones are Pink Fairy Floss. The small generic roses are from my stash. The bow that I tied up is made from vintage seam binding. My Mom gave me a great collection of seam bindings dating back years and years. Some of them were marked with prices like 25¢ and some had sale prices of 5¢!!

Here's  one last LO to show you, its of some good friends of ours.  I used Fabscraps Victoria collection for this layout and added a sheet of Coredinations color core cardstock that I punched with the WRMK Lucky 8 punch (love these punches!!).  The swirly leafy vines are Bella Rose, a Spellbinders punch made for Heartfelt Creations,  That is definitely one of my favorite punches!  I've used a mix of Manor House blooms, Country Lane and Sprinkles, along with a Petaloo vine and a small Prima sugar bloom.

Thanks for your visit!  I hope you are enjoying this last day of what has been a long holiday week for many, I hope you were one of the "many"!!

Flying Unicorn July KOM Creations!

One of the greatest things about our Flying Unicorn kits is that they always include an off the page project and each month the project is different of course!  We've had everything from canvas to glass painting.  This month our OTP was a nesting set of 3 wooden trays and a set of oil paints to paint them with and decoupage paste.   I decided to use my trays as frames so that I could create a 3-D project.  Here's a sign for my garden.  First I painted the tray in the style of Monet, that is dabbing paint on - that created a textured finish.  I used blue, green, yellow and white and a touch of brown to color my tray.  Oil paints do take a while to dry and as thick as I had applied the paint, it took a good 48 hours to dry.  Then I applied a coat of decoupage paste over the paint to keep it from chipping off.

The letters are Kaisercraft and I painted them with Luminarte painte, I really love Luminarte paints, they have such deep jewel colors.  Thank you Patti for introducing me to these paints.  I used blue Petaloo flowering vines and a couple Prima roses to embellish the english ivy vines that came from Hobby Lobby.  Its really a simple project but it looks really pretty introducing you to my garden.

This 2nd frame I painted with acrylic paint and lined the bottom with paper.  I used a couple Dusty Attic corner pieces that I painted with gold Perfect Pearls and again used Petaloo flowering vines (I love these vines!!  Watch for them in the Flying Unicorn store)  and 2 large Prima blooms.  This is a simple design but I know my MIL will love it!

And finally I'd like to show you a LO that I did with the kit using some Fabscraps and Manor House flowers.  The vine is Petaloo. I used WRMK Lucky 8 to cut the purple cardstock piece and Martha Stewart Deco Flower corner punch to punch the white circle.

July KOM creations!

I know you're going to love this kit, it is full of fun and diverse papers, everything from Fabscraps, to 7 Gypsies to Pink Paislee mistables.  This first layout incorporates all three of these paper lines.  The photo is a cabin in Hope, Alaska that we happened by while honeymooning there almost 20 years ago.  I loved the flowers everywhere so of course had to snap a shot!

The fence is from my stash as is the orange floral vine (there is a blue one like it in the kit) and the large orange rose.  The 5 petal flowers are in the kit but i have misted them orange.  The honeycomb paper is Pink Paislee and I have inked it with Bundled Sage Distress ink.  There are also some Prima masks which I used there on the right.

The large bloom here is hand made.

You know how I love my furbabies!  This is my sweet girl Brandy, she went over the bridge December 28, 2007.  She was quite the character and I've included stories about her in the Dog Tales file folder.  I used Distress ink, Fired Brick, on the Pink Paislee mistable paper, its the circle.  I used my Lucky 8 WRMK Tatted Doily to cut the scalloped circles.  The large rose is a beautiful Manor House bloom that came in the kit that I misted with Lindy's.  The tiny roses are Flying Unicorn Enchanted Passion Bordeaux - all from the store.

I love the crows on the telephone line, that's a Scrap FX chippy, love it!!

My journaling:

Dear sweet Brandy…there are so many stories to tell, she filled our hearts with love and laugter for 12 ½ years, her last year with us was difficult, but a dog is a forever friend so you do what you have to do.

During the last year of Brandy’s life she developed anxiety disorder and it got so bad that we had to put her on Xanex twice a day.  One day I came home from work and Brandy greeted me at the door.  I thought to myself, “Hmmm, that’s strange, I could have sworn, I put the dogs in the laundry room this morning.”  I figured I hadn’t closed the door good and thought no more about it until the next day when Brandy again greeted me at the door when I got home.

At that point I figured some further investigation was in order so I went to the basement to check it out.   Our laundry room was a combination laundry and storage room and it was quite large so that’s where Chena and Brandy spent their days.   What I found was really quite amazing, the round door handle was quite mangled as Brandy had learned to grasp the door handle in her mouth, turn it, and pull the door open.  Yes, smart dog!

Her anxiety attacks were quite severe and caused her to cling to me to the point that she would try to lay on top of me.  She would pace and pace and nothing calmed her down.  One night I was awake all night with her because she would not settle down.  She and I went to the guest room one night and I allowed her in the bed with me but she would lay down for a minute and then resume pacing, and jumping on the bed, and pacing, and laying on top of me, she was wild with anxiety, I felt so badly for her.

The final straw before putting her on Xanex full time was the day our housekeeper, Kathy, came.  Well Kathy was afraid of dogs so we always made sure the dogs were securely locked up downstairs where Kathy did not have to go.  That day, Brandy was stricken with anxiety and opened the door and she and Chena went running upstairs to find a very startled and scared Kathy who climbed up on the island in the middle of our kitchen.  Brandy reportedly laid down on the floor but Chena kept circling the island and barking at her.  At some point Kathy was able to get off the island, grab the phone that was just a few feet away, and call our neighbors whose house she also cleaned.  They worked out a plan where our neighbor would come over to the back of the house and tap on the sliding glass door and get the dogs’ attention; meanwhile, Kathy would jump off the island and flee to the garage.  That worked just great except that by now, Kathy was so rattled that she couldn’t remember where the switch was to open the garage door.  Finally she slipped our house keys under the garage door and the neighbors were able to get in the house and put Brandy and Chena back in the laundry room.  Only problem was that Brandy again opened the laundry room door.  And so, the neighbors came back over to rescue Kathy from the dogs!  After Brandy’s 3rd escape from the laundry room, the neighbors putting Brandy in the furnace room and when we got home she had escaped from there too.

Amazingly, Kathy continued to clean our house, and after putting Brandy on Xanex twice daily, we had no more episodes of doggie escape!

I'll be showing you more things I did with the kit in a couple days, please come visit!!
