Eileen Hull Designs by Sizzix New Storage Box Assembly Tutorial

Let's make a box covered with pretty papers!  Eileen Hull has a new XL die that makes into a great 4" x 4" storage or gift box.

Here's  how you put it together.

TUTORIAL

Step 1:  Use 2 sheets of 6 x 13" matboard and run the die through your die cut machine twice.  You should have the pieces shown in the photo below.  You will also need 2 additional small strips shown at the bottom of this photo.  Cover the flaps with red liner adhesive tape as shown in the photo. (You can use the adhesive of your choice.  I like red liner tape because it has a strong bond.)

Step 2:  Take the two largest pieces and fold on the score lines.  Adhere one piece to the square which is the bottom of the box.  Then attach the 2nd sidewall piece along the side and to the bottom of the square forming a box.  (You can attach the side walls to each other before attaching to the square lid.  Either way works.)

Step 3:  Now make the lid.  Attach the walls together and then adhere to the 2nd square forming the lid.  The flaps should be inside the lid.

Step 4:  Insert the 4" x 5/8" strips inside the box top making a lip that fits down into the box bottom.  Adhere the strips such that about 1/4" protrudes from the box lid. This hold the lid in place.

Step 5:  Now let's make this box pretty!  Cut paper to cover the box sides as shown in this photo.

Step 6:  Apply adhesive, glue or tape.

Step 7:  Adhere the smaller panel first.  It wraps around two corners.  Then adhere the large piece beginning at a wrapped corner.  The paper then will fit nicely all around the box.

Step 8: Cut a  5" square and score at 1/2" on all 4 sides.  This will be the cover for the box.  Clip the corners diagonally as shown. (sorry for the blurry photo!)

Step 9:  Adhere to the top of the box folding down along the sides at the score lines.

Step 10:  Cut paper 5" x 1 1/4" and score both ends at 1/2".  Cut another strip 12" x 1 1/4" and score at 4" and 8".  Cover the sides of the lid in the same manner as the box, beginning with the 5" strip.  (Sorry no photo.)

Step 11:  Now your box is finished and all ready for embellishing! I glued some lace around the box top and added some fussy cut images on the sides.

Step 12:  Build some height on the lid by adding flowers and ribbons.

All finished!

Mini Book Die - Eileen Hull Designs by Sizzix

This is the cutest little book ever!  I did a twist, making the inner pages larger than the cover.  Why?  Because I could. 😄 I used Graphic 45's Love Notes collection to make the book along with lots of Eileen's dies.

View from the spine. I stamped one of Eileen's postage stamps on a die cut Faux Postage and used on the back cover. I adhered ribbon underneath the layers on both the front and back covers to create a tie closure.

Let's take a closer look at the cover.  The floral layer was die cut with a label die from the Sizzix - Thinlits Dies - Everyday Tags and Labels. That layer is topped with G45 chipboard pieces.

Inside left is a flap page made by die-cutting the cover on design paper trimming and then trimming it down to fit inside.  On the right is a cute little file folder that is part of the Envelope, Flower and Folder die set.

The flap folds over to reveal a punched out oval stamp from the new Faux Postage die.  I used Eileen's Postage stamp set to stamp on the oval.

The next two pages are covered with design paper and a journaling card.

On the right side is a cute little envelope that is perfect for tucking in love notes.  It's a die cut from the Envelope, Flower and Folder die set.

More fun pages!

Last page, another stamped and die cut image from Eileen.

And now the most fun part of all, each page is actually a pocket and holds a tag die cut with Eileen's Waterfall Card and Tags Set.  The tags are 2 1/4" x 3 3/4", perfect for a photo or note.

New Dies Released by Eileen Hull Designs by Sizzix

New dies from Eileen Hull Designs by Sizzix, yay!!  As always, Eileen creates designs that work well  together but also stand alone. There are four pieces in this set.

The Mini Book is one of my favorites because you can create a book using this die in an evening, and use up your scraps in the process. This book measures 3 3/4” x 2 1/4” and comes with a strap/handle and tiny label for the book cover. It also makes a great bag topper if you fold it in the middle and also will hold a business card. Die cut it from felt and stitch up a tiny wallet!

Who doesn't love a box?  I am obsessed with boxes and have quite a collection of them.  The Storage Box is an XL ScoreBoard die measuring 4” square, the largest square box yet! You never know when you're going to need a box, right?  This box is constructed with a removable top and may be used in many ways, such as organizing desk and office supplies, as a gift box, storing craft supplies and packaging for baked treats.

Theis new Thinlits die is called Faux Postage- the full panel is designed to fit on a 5” x 7” card and creates a fun postage stamp effect. You can also cut (or tear) each stamp apart and use the individual pieces as a miniature work of art! These dies coordinate with similar dies: Snail Mail (A-2 card size) and Mini Slimline (6” x 3”)

I used the new Faux Postage die to create a card. and yes, I know Valentine's is past but you can use this in so many different ways.  You could put any symbol in the oval and circle punched out areas. I used the heart dies that are included in the Envelope, Folder, and Flowers die set.  How about shamrocks for St Patrick's day or bunnies for Easter?

The Lace 3D embossing folder is so amazing!  I really love this folder because it is BIG!  Like  8 1/2” x 5 3/4” big!  It works great on bigger journal covers, card backgrounds and on home decor pieces. Eileen created this from vintage lace that she has collected.  There are so many ways to use this folder; it was just the right size to cover this tag.  The lace texture is truly GORGEOUS!

You  can use the lace embossing folder or scrapbook pages!  I used Core'dinations sandable cardstock and the Lace embossing folder to make this page for a mini.

Check out this collection and see lots of ideas from Eileen's design team! The Release Party starts today (March 1) at noon Eastern on Eileen’s YouTube, Facebook and Instagram channels.  There’s a giveaway too- join us on the live and hear how you can win…You can find these dies in your local scrapbook stores- if they don’t carry them, ask them to order    Eileen also carries them in her Etsy shop and would love your support!
