Eileen Hull's Heartfelt Journal by Sizzix

As promised, today I am showing you the travel journal I made to go along with the inserts that I showed you yesterday from the Cheery Lynn blog hop.  The journal cover was cut with the Sizzix Heartfelt Journal designed by Eileen Hull.  I am crazy about these journals, they are so much fun to make!  The die comes with a closure and a nameplate.

I used Carta Bella's Transatlantic Travel collection to make the journal and inserts.  I made this for a friend that travels a lot so this collection is perfect for her and I know she'll love the vintage colors!  The journal die includes a label for the front and I used that layered over a Cheery Lynn scalloped oval.

I punched 3 little banner flags with an American Crafts Knock Out banner punch.  Since I hope this journal is going to be well used, I didn't want to make it all frou-frou with flowers and bulky embellishments.  I just want the beauty of the paper patterns to take center stage.  I used matte medium to adhere all the papers and to paint the outer surfaces of both the front and back covers.  That will help to protect and keep the covers looking nice.
These are the journal inserts I made for the journal.

Here's a look inside the front cover.  On the left I made a pocket that'll be handy for receipts and other accumulated "stuff" while on the road.  The inserts are bound into the journal cover with elastic cord.  I used an .8 mm black cord.  I think I would use something a little bit heavier next time.  However, since I have a whole spool of black and of white cord, I think "next time" will be a ways off!

Inside the first insert I glued a purchased tear off pad and then secured it with a clip.   This will be great to use for that grocery list you make while on the road. (My friend, like me, has a motorhome so this is handy!)
The 2nd pad is lined for writing notes.  (Yesterday I did a post specifically about the inserts, you can see more information about their construction here.)
I made the page inserts myself, it's really easy to do.  I just created a Word document with lines on it and cut to size.   The neat thing is that my stapler has a 4 1/4" reach and that is perfect for stapling the pages together.  I didn't have to stitch the pages, and being inherently lazy, that's a good thing!
The third insert has cardstock pages that can be used for holding photos.
I kept it simple and just adhered some photomats and used some stickers from the collection to dress it up.
Inside the back cover I created another pocket.  You always need a place to stash notes, receipts and such, right?

So that's my travel journal, it was easy to make and I was able to do it all in just one morning.  That's my kind of happy!!
