Project Roundup - Eileen Hull Designs

Eileen Hull's Inspiration Team is sharing their favorite projects of the year.  It's really hard to pick just one favorite so I chose several!

I'll start off with this journal as it might be my favorite, just maybe!  It's a small journal that will easily fit in your bag that I made with Eileen's Wrapped Journal die. The cover was done with a combination of Distress Oxide Ink and Stamperia Alchemy papers.  The wrapped journal is awesome, check out a tutorial to make this one here.

I love this set that I made using several of Eileen's dies.  on the left is the  Card Box, Planner Storage & Organizer.  Then I made two different minis, both of which will fit in the Storage Box.  The one on the bottom was made with Eileen's Passport Book die and the one on the right was made with  Book Binding Movers & Shapers Magnetic Die.  Take a look at the tutorial on my original post for more about this project.

I love this project because it was so fun to make and because it shows you something different you can do with the Wrapped Journal die.  I do love to make mini albums and it's always fun to have something to put them in.  The Passport Book mini fits right inside this adorable little purse!  How cool is that?!  Click here to go to the original post that includes a video tutorial!

I could keep going with "favorite" projects but I think these three are my most favorites.  😅

I am eagerly waiting for the new release, it'll be here soon, woo-hoo!!!!  Until then, I wish you a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!

A Wish Book for the Kids with Eileen Hull Designs

A Project for the Kids!

When I was a child, I spent many many hours perusing the Christmas "Wish Book".  Perhaps you are a bit younger than me and never experienced the "Wish Book" and you're wondering, what is a wish book?  Well, the "wish book" was the Sears catalog and children throughout the nation spent hours flipping through the pages and pages of toys, hoping that Santa would fulfill their dreams.
Today's project is for the little ones in your house; it's my version of the wish book.  I've seen my niece and nephew go through the flyers that come in the mail and circle their favorite toys and I thought it would be fun for them to have their own wish book where they could write their list for Santa.

I used Eileen Hull Designs by Sizzix Book Binding die to create this fun little mini.  Scroll down near the bottom for a tutorial on how to use this fun little mover and shaper die.

The book has many blank pages so the kids can cut out pictures of their favorite things and glue them in the book.

There are also lots of pockets to tuck in pictures and tags.

We want our children to know that Christmas is not only about toys and Santa; we also want them to know that Christmas is about giving so I've included pages where they can record their ideas for gifts for other family members.
Pocket pages, on the left and right.

Tutorial

Eileen's book binding die is just so fun!  It gives you the flexibility to bind your albums without expensive binding machines.  I've used MAMBI Happy Planner Discs to bind my book, but you could also use rings.

Making the binding is so easy.  All you need is album cover and Eileen's  Book Binding die.  I like to tape the die onto the cover so that it stays where I want it and then run it through my die cut machine and that's it.  You will need a  Movers & Shapers Shuttle or Base Plate as the Book Binding die is a Mover and Shaper die.

Then, all you need to do is snip the opening and slip in a disc.

To make my Wish Book, I used Graphic 45's St Nicholas collection.  For the cover I just layered up a couple of pieces of design paper and added a large sticker at the top, a cut-apart at the bottom and a piece of chipboard on the right.  Then, to finish it off, I added a title and made a couple of flowers using Eileen's Journaling Cards, Flowers & Leaves die set.

These flowers are easy to make!  Just die-cut some blooms with the flower die and give them some shape with a stylus or tweezers and stack them up as I've done in the photo below.

Then to give them some Christmas magic and sparkle, dab with a clear drying glue and sprinkle with Diamond Dust or alternatively, add Icicle Stickles to the petals.

Next die-cut some leaves  with Eileen's Leaf Die and pinch to shape,  Nestle the leaves under the flowers and that's it.

To finish off your book, die-cut plenty of blank pages, use lined paper as well as design paper, so the kids have places to record their wish list.  Give the kids some adhesive, scissors and ads from the paper (you know there will be lots over Thanksgiving week) and see what they come up with.  This would also be a great project to do with the kids.  Let them decorate their covers.  I bet you'll have some very memorable "wish books"!

Sizzix Wrapped Journal and ColorBox Blends Tutorial by Eileen Hull Designs

Have you seen Eileen's new ColorBox Blends Inks by Clearsnap?  They are so unique as they are an inker, applicator and re-inker all in one and they come in 16 colors.

The Journal

I did the background of this wrapped journal with green, pink and blue Blends.  Love how it came out!  Scroll on down for a tutorial on how I did the cover.

The Wrapped Journal die makes the cutest mini.  The covers wrap over each other and the inside holds 4 signatures (the booklets inside the journal.)  Ok, I just know you are wondering why the journals are on the right side and why they appear to open from the back instead of the front.  Well...I am left handed and sometimes my left handedness just takes over and compels me to make things for lefties.  😁 (In other words I goofed!  But, it is perfect for a lefty!)

Inside the cover and for the signatures, I used papers from Stamperia's Wonderland collection.

There are 4 signatures - these are what the interior booklets are called.  I used dies from Eileen's newest BookClub 2 collection that includes the Wrapped Journal as well as from her original BookClub collection to cut tags and flowers to use on the signatures.

One of my favorite dies from the new Book Club 2 collection is the  Credit Card Sleeve and Tags.  This die set makes to neatest pocket that is just perfect for holding gift cards and little notes.

Tutorial

Diecut a Wrapped Journal from white mat board.  Tape the covers together with removable tape so that the covers align properly.  Then mark the placement of the brads on the two covers.  (You can do this after inking, but be sure you attach them before adding paper on the inside, otherwise the brad backs will show.)
Use ColorBox Blends to completely ink both the inside and outside covers.  The Blends stay wet long enough that you can easily blend your colors.   I used Bay, Beach and Leaf on my covers.
Tip:  When your Blends are new, you will need to press the pads down on a scrap piece of paper to get the ink flowing and to fill the inkpad with ink.

After the inks have dried you can add design paper inside and outside if you like.  I used some great Steampunk stamps from Stamperia to stamp images on my covers (4) but decided the one on the front cover looked to dark, so I stamped it again on white paper and fussy cut it out and glued to the cover.  I liked that much better (5)!  I also blended in a little Tutu pink ink to bring the cover and design paper together.

(6)  I added some flowers and clock charms to gussy up the cover.

I added design paper to the inside right cover and stamped that with another image from the same stamp set.

Using the Wrapped Journal Die by Eileen Hull Designs to Make a Purse

When we make a big purchase, it needs to have more than one use, right?  Well friends, take a look at this because this is Eileen Hull's Wrapped Journal "disguised" as a purse! It is just the cutest little purse and, bonus,  it's really easy to make!  Check it out below and make one with me in this complete process video! (Here's a link to another purse mini I made. )

After you die-cut Sizzix Mat Board, you can  run it through your die-cut machine and emboss it as I did here.  The mat board embosses so nicely  and it doesn't take a special embossing folder.  I just used an old Cuttlebug folder that I've had for years. Then I had fun inking it all up with Eileen Hull's ColorBox Blends inks.  Blends are unique as they are an inker, re-inker and applicator all in one.

The flowers die-cut into the Wrapped Journal are made with Floral Cutouts which is a Movers & Shapers die that is part of this Book Club 2 release.  The Wrapped Journal die has a cut out space where you can fit in a mover and shaper die and give your journal cover a custom cutout or edge.  For this cut, I simply dropped the Floral Cutout die onto the Wrapped Journal Die and ran it through my Vagabond to cut out the journal with the floral cutout all with just one cut.
What I love best about this purse is that Eileen's Passport Book fits perfectly into the Wrapped Journal purse.  How cool is that?   This would make a great gift for Moms and Grandmothers.  Use Christmas colors to make a Christmas keepsake.

You can view my tutorial to make a Passport Book on YouTube here.  In the video I am using a different paper collection than you see pictured here, but I do show you how to make the cover, string the mini to hold the inside booklets and lots of different ways to make pages.
I used a tag from the Credit Card Sleeve & Tags set to make the closure.  It was the perfect size to make a pretty closure for this bag.

Thanks so much for visiting me today and a special thanks to those of you that leave a comment.  I really appreciate it!  I hope you have a great day and find time to do whatever it is you love most!

Felt Wrapped Journal by Eileen Hull Designs by Sizzix

Wrapped Journal Mini Album
I'm sharing ANOTHER Wrapped Journal with you today!  This one is made of wool felt and that is one of the things I love most about Eileen Hull's XL Scoreboard Dies. They can be used with so many different materials like fabric, paper, leather, felt, cardboard, thin metal, the possibilities are practically endless!

To make that fun button closure, I just attached a button on the spine and a button on the wrap cover and added a piece of ribbon to loop around, easy peasy!

This journal is so pretty with the blue felt and paper accents! And if the paper looks vaguely familiar, its an old Bo Bunny collection of scraps that I had left over.  To make that fun button closure, I just attached a button on the spine and a button on the wrap cover and added a piece of ribbon to loop around, easy peasy!

I also used dies from the  Journaling Cards, Flowers & Leaves set to make the flower on the front cover.  Those dies are also part of the Book Club 2 release and are perfectly sized for this cover, don't you think?

You'll notice that the right wrap cover is scalloped and that's because I used the Scallop Border to die-cut that edge.  There are two Movers & Shapers borders designed to work with the Book Club dies, this one and a Floral Cutout.

Another great thing, if you have the Passport Book, is that the pages from the Passport Book work perfectly for making the signatures for this Wrapped Journal!  How great is that????

The Wrapped Journal is designed to hold 4 signatures so you can really load this book up with notes, photos, whatever you like to keep in your journals.

Wrapped Journal Purse and Passport Book by Eileen Hull Designs by Sizzix

Can you believe I made this purse using Eileen Hull Design's new Wrapped Journal die?  A die needs to have more than one use right?  AND the best part is that the Passport Book mini will fit right inside this sweet little purse!

To fit the mini inside, you just have to make one small adjustment.  I'll show you how to make both the purse and a mini in July, soon, I promise!  Like you, I am waiting for my Wrapped Journal die.  As a member of Eileen's design team, I received some cuts with this die way back in January and that's what I used to make this purse.  Now, I waiting for my own die.  As soon as I receive it, I'll whip up a tutorial for you, promise!

The closure I used is from Fabscraps, it is awesome!

Wrapped Journal by Sizzix - Eileen Hull Designs

Wrapped Journal
Hurray!  Eileen Hull Designs by Sizzix Book Club 2 dies will be available this month!  Here's a Christmas Wrapped Journal from the collection that I made with patent leather.  Below is a video flip through so you can see all the pages.

Wrapped Journal
The journal is such a great size at 5 1/8" x 3 3/4" when the cover is wrapped around.  Easy to tuck into your purse, right?

Wrapped Journal
I cut the center out of the front cover so that I could frame the old world Santa image.  I cut a small image from the design paper and placed it inside the metal frame on the spine dangle and then cover it with Glossy Accents.  That made such a pretty embellishments, along with the mitten and vintage jingle bell.

Wrapped Journal

There are 4 signatures inside the journal, one is lined paper for notes and journaling and the others are full of photo mats, tags, and flip pages to optimize photo and journaling spots.

Wrappd Journal Tutorial for Eileen Hull Designs

Hurray, the Wrapped Journal Die from Eileen Hull Designs by Sizzix is here!  It should be available in your favorite stores and at Sizzix sometime this month.  I am so excited, I just love this die!!  It makes the cutest little book with a wrap-around cover.  It's about the size of the  Passport Journal,, BUT the cover wraps all the way around.

I used  Sizzix Mat Board to make my journal covers, it seems to hold up well with Mixed Media applications.  You can also use chipboard though.

I've recorded a video tutorial showing you how I made the cover for this journal and how to string the ealstic bands.

Video Tutorial

Here's the cover opened up so you can see it in it's entirety.

Inside, with the book opened up.

The best thing about this wrap journal is that I used the pages portion of the Passport Journal to diecut the pages for this Wrap Journal! I love it when dies work together like this.

I used the Credit Card Sleeve & Tags Framelits die set to create this gift card holder.  It cuts the perfect size sleeve to slide in a gift card or credit card.

Lots of pretty pages in the journal with tuck spots and pocket pages.  I used Stamperia's Alchemy collection, you really have to see this collection in person to appreciate how beautiful it is!!  I bought 1 collection pack, 'cause I wasn't sure if I would love it, oh yeah, upon receipt, I immediately order another pack!

Stop by my blog tomorrow for a link to a video flip through of this journal so that you can see all the inside pages and different dies from Eileen's newest die collection, Bookclub 2 that includes this fabulous Wrapped Journal die.
