Halloween Decor with Eileen Hull's Shadow Box Frames

I love crafting Halloween projects, they are just so fun!  I think it takes me back to my childhood, and of course usually involves eating chocolate while I'm crafting!  😁 So here's a fun home dΓ©cor project you can make with your kids using Eileen Hull Designs by Sizzix Shadow Box Frames.

There are two sets of Shadow Box Frame dies and I used the #2 set but either would work.  It just depends on what size frames you want to make.  These are 4 3/4' x 6 1/4".  I constructed the frames from black cardstock and then added 5/8" strips around the frame to add lots of color.  I had some foam alphabet letters which were just the right size to stamp the letters with orange paint onto black cardstock that I cut to fit the frames.

I used an old Tim Holtz product, Picket Fence Distress Stain, to color Mr. Bones.  I like the uneven coverage that it gives the chipboard.

The frames tended to be a little heavy on the front causing them to tip over so I added a simple chipboard stand to the back.  You can use any scrap chipboard; just cut a length 6" - 7", then score with a craft knife around 3" from the bottom.  Take care not to cut all the way through the chipboard, you just want to scored it enough so that it fold nicely.  Glue to the back and you're all set.

Iff you dig around in your stash I bet you'll find lots of left over Halloween bits and pieces.  I have a lot of great chipboard from Creative Embellishments so I pulled out the skeleton, pumpkins, and the ghost shaker.

I dyed some cheesecloth black.  Its easy to do, just put some cheesecloth in a plastic sandwich bag.  You can spray a little mist or ink up the cheesecloth in the bag, then mist with water and moosh it up!  Of course you can skip the bag if you don't mind inky fingers!

Again, I used Picket Fence Distress Stain to get the transparent look on the ghost  It covers just enough of the chipboard color to make it look sort of cloudy and translucent like I imagine a ghost would look.

Ode to Spring Shadow Box and Birdhouse

Ah Spring!  It's my favorite season, so when the May design team theme of birds, nests, and eggs was announced...well I just went kinda crazy!

I used 3 different Eileen Hull by Sizzix dies to make this: large Shadowbox Frame, Birdhouse, and Phone stand.

I used Sizzix Cardstock Surfacez to construct the frame and then added design paper to the frame to give it some pizzazz.  The word, Spring, at the top is a Creative Embellishments piece and is heat embossed with Stampendouse Aged Green.

I used the Phone Stand as an easel on the back and it works really great.  The only modification you need to make to the Phone Stand is to leave off the piece that normally cradles the phone.

Now the fun part is the scene I constructed in the frame.  I built a birdhouse using Eileen's Birdhouse die.  The only modification I made is that when you put the roof on the birdhouse, instead of centering, place the roof such that the roof edge is flush with the back of the birdhouse.  That way when you place the birdhouse in the frame, it easily attaches to the frame with glue or tape.

I painted up a Creative Embellishments chipboard bird and added to the front of the birdhouse with dimensional foam.

Well, I know the nest should be inside the birdhouse 😊 but then you would not see it, so I tucked it in the flowers on the outside.

I have had so much fun using these Shadowbox Frames, there are so many fun things you can do with them!

Door Hanger for Creative Embellishments

Here's a fun gift idea from Creative Embellishments, a door hanger.  I'm sure their are lots of kids out there that would love to have a "Keep Out" door hanger!  I went with something a bit nicer, it says "Admit One".

The door hanger is from Creative Embellishments Home Decor line and is made of plywood.  I first adhered a piece of black cardstock from Graphic 45's Come One, Come All collection to the wood piece and then  stenciled on a pattern using black modeling paste.

Next I added one of my favorite chipboard pieces, Grunge Gear Corner.  In keeping with the really bright color scheme of the G45 paper, I used yellow, black and chinese red embossing powders to color the chipboard.  I'm just feeling very colorful today!  πŸ˜„

I diecut two shapes and popped them up to mount the "Admit One" ticket along with a Graphic 45 key.  I swiped a little bit of gold wax over the two keys to bring out the details in the keys. And of course, I finished it off with some Little Birdie flowers!

I think I'll give this to my great niece, she can drive her mother crazy with it, LOL!!!

Final Creative Challenge of 2021!

This is a special card that I made for the wonderful gal that grooms my poodles.  They love her so much and delight in going in to have their "hair done"!  She is crazy about my girls and always makes them so pretty!

This is the inspiration photo for the December Creative Embellishments challenge.  I was immediately inspired and headed straight for a Stamperia paper collection called "Pink Christmas".  It is a perfect match with this photo!  The twist is to use bling and I used a glittery embossing powder for the twist.

This is an easel card and I've used Merry Christmas words from Creative Embellishments to hold the easel in place.  My poodles are silver just like the one on the card (Cottage Cuts die I believe) so this came together in the most perfect way!

The Merry Christmas Titles set is great as it includes 5 title sets each in a different font that are perfectly sized for card making.  I heat embossed these with Stampendous Shabby Pink Embossing Enamel which has glitter in it.  Too bad you can't really see how sparkly it is in this photo.

Here you can see the mechanism that makes the easel.  These are simple cards to make.  Here's a link to a blog post that includes a video tutorial on making an easel card.

I heat embossed the fuzzy part of my poodle with Ranger Antiquities Cement embossing powder.  It makes the greatest "poodle hair"!

Clean and Simple Layout for Creative Embellishments

Oh yes, I'm still working on that 8 x 8 mini album that was supposed to be a Christmas gift for LAST year!  The good news is that I finished it yesterday!  Hooray!!

This is really a simple layout but simple is sometimes what you need when your goal is to present a set of photos. I love this set showing how my great niece has grown over time.  It's such a cute way to document how quickly babies grow!

At the top I used Creative Embellishments' word "Cute" from the Boy Word Set and as usual I have heat embossed with Stampendous Aged Ivory Embossing Enamel.  It's such a fast and attractive way to make your chipboard embellishments stand out.

I used Ranger Antiquities Rose Quartz Embossing Powder on this adorable heart chippy.  This powder is completely different from what I used on "cute".  It has a textured finish that I really like.

An adorable baby, some great chippies and a few flowers, that's all it takes to make a great layout!

Grand Teton Layout for Creative Embellishments

I created this simple layout featuring 3 photos for Creative Embellishments.  You know, sometimes you just need to create scrapbook pages that are actually made to go into a scrapbook!  This one will be a little bulky with the floral vine on the side but it will still fit.

My floral cluster has several layers beginning at the bottom with a swirly chipboard pieces that I have heat embossed with Deep Sea embossing powder. I topped that with painted Leaves Clusters.  I think they make a great bed for the black floral vine that I used.

After placing the swirly border, leave pieces, and floral vine, I fussy cut some flowers from the design paper (Graphic 45 Come One Come All collection) and tucked in here and there.

For the title I used a word, Vacation, chippy and heat embossed it with Aged Spice from the Stampendous Autumn Fling kit.

It's a Dog's Life Layout for Creative Embellishments

Creative Embellishment's November challenge is up and it's based on this layout sketch with a twist to splash paint onto your prooject.

My Project

I chose my favorite subjects for this layout, my dogs and my husband!

I framed both my photos with the doily frame set, using the largest frame on the bottom photo and the medium frame on the upper photo.  I rubbed them with Sizzzix Luster Wax to make them gold.  I love their wax, it's so easy to apply with your finger or even a small paintbrush.  Once it's dried, it doesn't rub off.

Isn' this such a sweet picture, "a man and his dog".  Tisha is definitely Daddy's girl while Nika is mine!

I love all the grunge pieces at Creative Embellishments; this one's call Grunge Corner. I heat embossed most of it with Stampendous Aged Black and used a little wax on the bottom part.  I love the black powder mottled with gold and silver to give it an aged appearance.

I also used the Heart Bokeh Stencil and stenciled on some hearts,  I don't think that worked out too well as they kind of fade away but I was afraid red hearts would be "too much".

Our dogs are spoiled rotten and we wouldn't have it any other way.  These photos were taken in our motorhome and they ar sharing a seat in the picture above.  Ha, normally they each take a chair leaving us with no where to sit!  So I thought this title was rather appropriate!  It is heat embossed with black embossing powder.

Check out that adorable little dog bone in the lower left.  It's black acrylic and part of a line of laser cut acrylics at Creative Embellishments.    I really love the acrylics!

I used Graphic 45's new Well Groomed collection to make this layout and spashed on some black paint to meet the twist.  It is so perfect for dog and cat projects!

I hope to see your project entered into the November challenge!  Thanks for stopping by!

Spellbinders Large Tag with Sweet Serenade Notecards by Becca Feeken

I've used Graphic 45's 2021 Christmas Collection, Let it Snow,  to fashion this oh so pretty large tag using Spellbinders Flourished Sonata Sweet Serenade Notecard die set.  Not only does this die set make beautiful slimline cards, it also works great on large tags.  I've used a large chipboard tag (5.5" x 10") from Creative Embellishments as my base.

I layered a base die-cut (green) and flourish die-cut (red) from the Flourish Sonata die set on the tag.

Look at the detailed cut outs on the flourishes.  I love how the paper underneath peeks through. The inside can also be cut out but I opted to not cut it out.

I stamped "every day" onto one of the tags from the design paper using the Just A Note Sentiments and Tag stamp set that works so nicely with this die set.

You can really dress up and  give your tags and cards character by using different die-cuts.  I love the cut out designs that just can't be done by hand.

To add a snowy effect to the tag, I added Stampendous Shabby White Embossing Enamel around the edge of the tag and heat set.  I love that snowy look!

Cookbook for Creative Embellishments

Did you know I have two hobbies, one is paper crafting, the other is cooking.  I love to cook for other people and make a big mess in the kitchen (I don't like cleaning it up so much πŸ˜‚) So every year since 2011 (except that bad year 2020 😣) my scrappy bff's have arrived on my doorstep with two tons of scrappy "stuff", a pair of pj's and their appetites waiting for some Maggi Camp home cooking.

We decided that a recipe book of camp dishes was necessary.  I am the only obsessed cook in the crowd so I don't expect this cookbook to get used alot.  One of the gals said she would give the recipe to her SIL to make for her. LOL!!!!

Well anyway, here it is.  I used Graphic 45's Farmhouse Collection to make the cookbook and lots of great chippies from Creative Embellishments.

The gang!

I used Wood Veneer Recipe Words throughout the cookbook.  I left them in their natural state as they looked great on the cookbook as is.

They were too large to fit on the tabs I had but I decided that didn't matter.  The tabs divide the sections and help turn the pages.  I thought the titles worked well just beneath the tabs.

...or at the bottom of the page.

Yes, "from my kitchen to yours", its the perfect quote for a cookbook, or a food gift.  I heat embossed the words with black and mustard embossing powders.

I am a firm believer that good food makes for a good life!

Does anyone use a cookbook these days?  I had a bookcase full of them but gave 90% of them away when we moved.  When I am looking for a recipe I usually run to my computer.  Of course I have my Mom's 4 recipe boxes and in there I know are some treasured recipes from my childhood.  I really need to go through them and organize!

New Large Tags from Creative Embellishments

Ohhhh check out this new flourish tag!  I totally love this tag!!  I painted the top layer of the tag first with clear gesso and then used oxide inks to color and blend.  Then I cut the witch out from the signature page of Midnight Tales to fit behind the top tag layer.  Then I just glued on the backing making a nice sturdy tag suitable for home decor.

It's a 2 piece large tag, measuring 5 1/2" x 10". I sandwiched paper from Graphic 45's new Halloween collection, Midnight Tales, between to two tag layers to create a fun and spooky scene.
At the bottom of the tag I heat embossed two Witchy Pumpkins and nestled them among some fussy cuts and epemera from the Midnight Tales collection.

I painted embossing ink on the Witchy Pumpkins rather than dabbing so that I could preserve the etched pumpkin's  eyes and mouth.

The Owl on Branch is simply painted with black acrylic paint giving just a silhouette in the moon light and is glued over the tag..

Thanks for stopping by today!  Be sure to join in our October challenge, here.
