Songs of the Sea Layout for Little Birdie Crafts

Hello friends of Little Birdie Crafts! Today I am sharing a layout using the beautiful collection, Songs of the Sea from Little Birdie Crafts.  I am excited to tell you all about my layout and near the bottom you will find a wee surprise.

My Process

In the lower right corner I first stenciled on a pattern using Little Birdie's Mixed Media Paste White.  This is a great modeling paste, goes on smoothly and has just the right amount of body.

After that dried, I watered down a mix of white and aqua paints and brushed over the modeling paste.  Next I added a layer of cheesecloth.  I used some white corrugated paper behind one of the punchout doilies that come with every 12 x 12 paper collection and placed that over the cheesecloth.  I nestled one of the cut-aparts behind the doily and topped it all with gorgeous Little Birdie flowers.

To finish it off I dabbled paint on a die-cut flourish that I cut from the design paper.  I think the flourish  mimics the rolling seas.

In the upper right I placed my photo over top a chipboard corner piece.  I lpainted the chippy white with Little Birdie paints.  Then I added more gorgeous Little Birdie flowers, with a bit of cheesecloth and small flourishes tucked in to the cluster.

As a finishing touch, I dry brushed white paint over the flowers and spattered watered down white paint all over.

Welcome to my funky side!

Yesterday I showed you my favorite creations with the January KOM from the Flying Unicorn.  Today I want to share with you my funky side!  The kit addons have so many great mixed media products that I was inspired to just play with all my paints, masks and stamps.

This first layout is a photo that I have extended by using 13 Arts Ayeeda paints that came in the Mixed Passion add on along with Viva Maya Gold paints in my stash.  The drywall tape under the title is included in the kit.  All the black swirls were cut with my Cameo, WOW I am impressed with what a great job it does cutting fine details!  So I dabbed a little paint here and there, added some stamping, just playing, but what fun!  And that really is what it's all about right?  Sometimes when I sit down to do a piece, I am always thinking that this has to look perfect as I am showing off our kit but you know the new kit format has inspired me to get out of my comfort zone and play and so I am sharing my playful experiments with you!

Supplies - from the January kit and addons unless otherwise noted:
Patterned paper:  Prima Jodie Lee Art Journal paper
Diecuts and punches: Alterations Artful Words, (from my stash)
Flowers:   Prima Audrey571597, Petaloo Textured collection Mixed blossoms Apricot, Petaloo Penny Lane Antique Peach (from my stash)
Ink:  Mix'd Media Inx chiffon, peridot, Range black archival ink (all from my stash)
Mist:  Shimmerzing Goldie Lox (from a prior kit)
Paint:    Viva Maya Gold Olive, Cacoa, Fire red (from my stash), 13 Arts Matte Lemon & matte Pink
Other:  Stamper's Anonymous Ultimate Grunge stamp  (from my stash)

Love the January OTP, a Prima Finnabair art journal.  I fussy cut an image from G45's Couture papers and modpodged it over laces from the January kit.  The flowers are also from the kit.  I did some masking underneath it all and added lots of Glimmer Glam and more mists.    Truthfully, I am not wild about this but that's ok, that's what an art journal is for - experiment, play, have fun, if it turns out great, then that is a bonus.  Ok no bonus for me this time!

The Small Art, Big Passion add on is a fun kit and includes 12 sheets of Prima's Finnabair's Art Journaling paper.

This is a gift card holder tag I made for my brother's iTunes gift card.  I did some masking with several different masks and some misting.  I really love the music note that is part of the Flying Unicorn adornments as is the flower.  I  used some embossing powder on the flower as well as some paint, just to jazz it up!

January Flying Unicorn KOM - New and full of fun!

I love the changes made to the The Flying Unicorn KOM as does everyone on the  Creative Team!   We now have a Mixed Art kit that always contains a canvas and a selection of the latest mixed media products designed to complement the main kit. Another change is that the flower and embellishment addons have been combined and it's  now called the Mixed Passion kit rather than two separate addons.  Mixed Passion contains a selection of flowers, trinkets, fibers, ribbons, all to complement the main kit.

This first layout was done with the main kit, selections from the Mixed Passion and Mixed Art kits.  The swirled chippy is a Leaky Shed chippy from my stash as is the dry wall tape in the upper left corner.   I used a Spellbinders die to cut the sea oats.  Love that die, LOL, the poodles got it for me for Christmas.  They are such sweet doggies!!

Leaky Shed French Curve Scroll painted and then randomly sprinkled with silver micro beads and a tiny starfish from the Flying Unicorn Metal Adornments.

Mixed Media Inspiration kit from the Flying Unicorn

The Flying Unicorn Mixed Media Inspiration kit is full of things to get your creativity going!  For this first project, I chose one of the heavy duty 6x6 chipboard pieces in the kit and covered it with canvas that was also included in the kit.  Before adhering the canvas to the chipboard, I used the rubbing plates and black chalk that are included in the kit to rub an impression on the canvas.  Then I glued the canvas to the chipboard. There's a fun grungy stamp from Kaisercraft in the kit which I stamped with black in on my background.  Then I used some black molding paste from my stash and masked on mini paint lids (TCW, from my stash).  I must admit, most of that masking got covered up by the additional layers that went on this piece.  They I started misting with various Lindy's mists from my stash.  Next I decided to fold a fringed piece of canvas and make a top and bottom "border" for the piece.  I inked and stamped the fringed canvas in a similar fashion as the 3 x 3 piece and glued it to my chipboard.  Then there's a wide strip of mesh ribbon in the kit that I place over top everything.  At this point I decided the piece was starting to come together.  I had been thinking it would look good in the trash can up to this point, LOL!!  I used yet another mask, TCW mini vines. Because the surface is so uneven, the masking is less than perfect but I'm ok with this look.  I left the mask in place and used chalk ink to color and some Lindy's Gator Gumbo Olive mist.

Now I love this project so its time to embellish!  I cut out the three word tags from the kraft sheet in the kit and popped them up on the canvas with foam squares.  I added the white flowers from the August KOM, the berries and tiny roses are from my stash and the leaves are Martha Stewart punches.  For finishing touches, I used Distress black soot ink around the edges and rubbed on some white chalk here and there.

LOL I bet you guessed who did this one!  I've had that oval poodle decoration forever and finally I found something to do with it!

For this piece, I again started with one of the 6x6 chipboard pieces and painted it with white gesso.  Then I started adding mists, the Fireworks mist from the kit, and Lindy's from my stash.  After that dried I used the rock wall stamp in the kit to stamp over the misting.  Then I got out a foam stamp from a couple kits ago and stamped on some paint circles.  I dripped a little red Ayeeda ink on for good measure!

Then I adhered the poodle art and embellished with the Petaloo vines and flowers in the kit.  I tucked little pieces of the mesh netting into the floral clusters and dabbled white painte over all.  This is going in the poodle's grooming room!

The August Mid Month Muse mixed media inspiration kit is now available at the Flying Unicorn.  I hope you'll check it out.

Lindy's Fusible Webbing!

Today I want to show you how to use Lindy's Fusible Webbing.  This is a really fun embellishment and a unique way to add texture to your projects.

You will need:

Lindy's Fusible Webbing - available in the Flying Unicorn store
Embossing ink - colors of your choice
Heat gun

Now that you've checked out my video, here are some projects that I used Lindy's Fusible Webbing on.

This first project was creating using items for the July Mixed Media Inspiration.  Its a canvas that I first misted using a Prima mask and then masked using Shimmerz Texturez in patina.  Then I added pieces of fusible webbing all around the outer edges to sort of frame the photo.  I used several colors of embossing powder - silver, aged wine, gold.

On this one I used gold UTEE on the webbing.

I love the look that fusible webbing gives to a project.  It adds a lacy textured look that is different from anything else.  I hope you'll give it a try!!

Thanks for stopping by, have a wonderful day!
