Funky Big Talk Canvas for Creative Embellishments

I'm feeling funky today and had a need to break out of my norm so here we are with a wildly colorful canvas that I did for Creative Embellishments.

The bright background was created on an art canvas by misting with water and then adding sprinkles of Ken Oliver Color Burst Powder.  I love how the powders pop and spread creating such unique patterns.

This is a Creative Embellishments Star Frame.  The frame is heat embossed.  I used Color Burst Powders on mixed media paper and framed that to make the stars stand out.

This is a Creative Embellishments Grunge Corner, also heat embossed.  I thought it made a cool platform for my funky girl to stand on!  You can also see in this photo the stamping I did with CE's Distress Circle Stamp and paint.

Dyan Reaveley has so many funky and fun stamp sets and the image here is from the Crown of Roses set.  I stamped the image on mixed media paper, colored it with markers and then fussy cut it.

AND, because I sometimes feel so snarky, I had to use a couple of quotes from Tim Holtz's Big Talk stickers.  I think it all works so well together!

Thanks for stopping by today, be sure and check out all the great chipboard, stamps, stencils and flair at the Creative Embellishments store/

Creative Embellishments February Challenge!

Time for a new challenge at Creative Embellishments!  I love the vintage photo inspiration this month; you can go in a lot of directions with this.  As you can see I took off on the pink rose and kinda went wild with color!
I started out with a tag from the Large Tags set and painted that with white gesso.  Then I used Ken Oliver's Color Burst to create that vibrant background.  I am just loving these brilliant bursts of color!

The twist calls for handwriting so I stamped a script stamp onto white card stock, also colored with Color Bursts.  Then I cut it to fit in the Leafy Vine Frame colored with Lindy's Starburst Mists.  I heat embossed the It's Our Time words with Stampendous Shabby Chic White embossing enamel and fitted that inside the frame.

At the bottom I used the Heart Flourish to frame the word, love, from the Hope Word Set both of which were heat embossed with Stampendous Shabby Chic White embossing enamel.

To finish it off, of course I added some pretty flowers and a bow!

Creative Embellishments Products Used:

Be sure to enter our monthly challenges as you might have a chance to win a great gift certificate to the Creative Embellishments store.  We've changed it up a bit for 2018.  You just need to upload your project to your blog or Facebook page and then add your project to our Creative Embellishments Facebook page challenge thread pinned at the top and leave a link to your blog or Facebook  post.

I'm entering this giant tag in the  All You Need is LOVE! challenge at the Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog.  For the challenge you need to create a vintage or shabby chic project with the word "LOVE" somewhere on the project.  My word is prominently displayed in the heart at the bottom.

More fun from Creativation!

I really enjoyed spending some time in Ken Oliver's booth and learning all about Color Bursts.  Gotta tell you, they are so fun to work with especially for someone like me that loves bright vibrant color!  Ken also has a mixed media mat board that is really awesome.  It is thick and takes watercolor without warping, love love love!  I have used two  6" x 6" pieces of his mat board to create this Inspiration Art Journal.

Now I've never been an art journaler, not my thing.  But this is my year to break out of my comfort zone and do something different, so here I am with my very own art journal.

So far I've created a few pages with Ken Oliver's Color Bursts.  In their simplest form, you just spritz some water onto a mixed media paper of some sort and then sprinkle with the Color Bursts and watch the colors explode!  The trick, of course, is keeping the colors from running all together and creating mud.

Another highlight of my trip to Creativation was visiting the Little Birdie booth.  Oh my, talk about some really gorgeous and different flowers, you should see the succulents.  They are AMAZING!!  I was lucky enough to get a package of these blue blooms that are sprinkled with glitter.  They are gorgeous!  Many thanks to everyone at Little Birdie for these blooms!

I'm also playing along with a challenge at the Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog with this project.  The challenge is to pick a word for 2018 that inspires you and create a vintage or shabby chic project featuring your word.  I've chosen courage as my inspiration word and it has a lot of meaning for me.  I see a lot of changes and challenges ahead for me in the months to come and I hope that I will have the courage to meet them all head on.  As an artist, I want the courage to explore new techniques.

More Color Burst action and one of my very favorite characters, the Umbrella Man!

Isn't that a really inspirational quote?  It really is so true, you just have to let your mind wander where it hasn't been before.

To create this page, I spritzed with water, sprinkled on different colors of Color Burst and then dried the page.  Then I took a mask and modeling paste and stencil on a vine and leaves.  Next, another spritz of water and more Color Burst letting the colors pool around the raised texture of the paste.  I love how this turned out!  I add some tiny Little Birdie blooms from my stash, and the larger bloom from Creativation.
On the left side, it's more of the same color palette but on the right side, I played with black and brown Color Burst.   Then I added in some gold stamping and the gold butterflies.  I'm not too happy about how my butterflies came out, the paste seeped a bit under the stencil.  I guess I need more practice right?  And that's what art journaling is all about .

And finally, the back cover, I need to add a quote or two here. (There are plenty of blank pages inside, I'll share them with you as the year progresses.)   This was the page I did with Ken at Creativation.   I really love the color splashes on the white background.

Thanks for stopping by today and checking out my Creativation fun!
