The Funkie Junkie Saturday Showcase - Stamperia's House of Roses

Sadly, this is my last post for The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog.  I find that life is demanding more of me and  I don't have the crafting time that I used to have.  It has been a real pleasure to serve with this design team and Linda, the owner.

For this Saturday Showcase, all the designers have designed a tag to share so be sure to visit the blog to see all the designers' creations.  I've used Stamperia's House of Roses paper collection on my tag.  This is such a gorgeous collection of pinks.

I decided to go simple with this as the cut apart I used really doesn't need anything else other than the simple white woodgrain background,

To create the background, I first painted a Graphic 45 large tag with white gesso.  Then I stenciled on a woodgrain pattern using a Tim Holtz stencil and texture paste.

After the texture paste was really dry, I inked with Hickory Smoke Distress Ink to give the appearance of aged bleached out wood. 

Next I put a thick layer of Ranger Crackle Accents all over the cut apart and let that dry.  Then I rubbed Hickory Smoke ink over the surface so that the crack in the surface would show. 

Then it was a simple matter of assembly.  I diecut  couple of corner vines to place underneath the pretty Little Birdie flowers.   I also used Lindy's Ponderosa Pines Olive and Frosty Forest Green to color the leaves to give them a more natural appearance.

At the bottom I added die-cut paper lace.

A pretty bow and butterfly complete this simple but effective tag.  I can see this on a white wrapped package. It would be the perfect thing to turn an ordinary package into a masterpiece.

Cattywampus Challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog

The Challenge
Sara Emily is hosting this fun challenge called Cattywampus.  As a fellow southerner I know all about cattywampus.  In case you don't know what cattywampus means Sara Emily tells you all about it in desribing her challenge. "Cattywampus is a funny sounding southern slag term I hear a lot around the house. According to the On Line Slang Dictionary it has several meanings including "appearing off center, diagonal from, crooked or not level, appearing askew, tilted or lopsided". Taking inspiration from any one of these definitions, include something cattywampus in your vintage or shabby chic project. Be sure to tell us what that cattywampus thing is; we might miss it!'"

My Take on the Challenge

I think I am a bit cattywampus myself, 😅!  If I don't use a ruler most things I do are apt to be just a wee bit cattywampus so I love to make things that are purposely tilted, or cattywampus! 

This card has two cattywampus layers, and don't they look just so pretty?

I used the beautiful Ciao Bella Sicilia Collection to make this card.  I love the yellows and blues.  I die-cut a blue payer to put under the top layer and focal point.  When I select my layers, I like to used contrasting colors so that each layer stands out on its own.

I used a "Thanks" stamp from the new Graphic 45 Sentiment Stamps collection along with a new Graphic 45 die.  Here I've nestled 3-D flowers in with the flowers printed on the papers to create a colorful garden.

Of course, no project is complete for me until I've added lots of pretty blooms!

Positively Pensive Challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog

   Today is Ballpoint Pen day and that is the inspiration for the new challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog hosted by Suzz.   The challenge, Positively Pensive, is to thoughtfully use a ballpoint pen on your project. You can doodle, journal, sketch or trace an outline using any color ballpoint pen on your art. Create a vintage or shabby chic project with some form of ink from a ballpoint pen and if it isn't obvious how it was used make sure to tell us in your post!

My Take on the Challenge

I used Ciao Bella's Sicilia papers to make this bright and cheerful layout.  Blue and yellow is such a pretty color combination, and, well, I just had to go wild with all the flowers! 

The challenge was to use ballpoint pen and I did on the journaling card.  The "stitches" were drawn on with a pen.

I added Creative Memories chipboard titles to my layout.  The are heat embossed with Ranger Antiquities embossing powder.  I love the texture this powder creates.

A fussy cut bird and branch add to the florals so dominant in these papers and on my layoutl.

Lots of textures and dimension on this layout,  I think I'll have to frame this one, it sure won't fit in an album!

Creative Embellishments and The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog - Tickled Pink!

The Challenge - Tickled Pink!

Ok, all you lovers of all things pink, this challenge is fo you!  I'm hosting the challenge, Tickled Pink,  at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog and this time around and it's all about pink.  Create  a vintage or shabby chic project using the color pink. You may use other colors as accents, but, pink must be predominant. There are many shades of pink ranging from fuschia to soft baby pink so let your pink imagination go wild!

Creative Embellishments

I created this fun project using chipboard from Creative Embellishments and their new laser cut mirror acrylic stars in pink!

My Take on the Challenge

Let me introduce you to Mlle Fairbanks, she is my nod to all things pink (I'm not a "pink" kinda gal)!  She is looking at the pink box embellished with Creative Embellishments chipboard and acrylic stars that I created for the challenge.

I diecut the box with Eileen Hull Designs by Sizzix gift box die.  Before diecutting I covered the matboard with pink card stock.  Then I cut 5 panels, 3 1/2" x 3 1/2", of white mixed media paper and embossed them with the  3-D Kaleidoscope embossing folder.  Next I inked the paper with several pink tone Distress Oxide inks.  And because more is always better to me I decided that a bit of embossing powder would add to the mixed media mayhem I was creating!  Sooo, I randomly sprinkled on a bit of embossing powder, using mostly white for some contrast.  After I was satisfied with the panels I adhered them to the sides and top of the box.

On the front  side of the box I've used a grunge star corner chipboard piece from Creative
Embellishments and wrapped it around to the side.  I painted it with Dylusions Bubblegum Pink paint and then added clear glass embossing powder.  The star on the top of the box is also a grunge star corner but I cut it into pieces.

Creative Embellishments has added a great product to their lineup, laser cut acrylic mirrored stars.  I topped the two grunge star corners with acrylic stars and added others all around the box.

For a final touch, I splashed some white paint all over the box.  I needed a little something extra 'cause flowers just didn't work!  😊

OH Man! Challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique

Time to create something for the man in your life!  The new challenge, Oh Man!,  at The Funkie Junkie Challenge Blog is hosted by Jenny and she explains it, "Fathers Day may be a way off yet but there are always other occasions and reasons for making something for the men in our lives. For this challenge create something which you feel has a more masculine look."

My Take on the Challenge

I used Stamperia's Imagine collection to create this card for my guy's birthday.  He's a car nut and spends his time turning piles of metal into streetrods.    I layered up some papers from the Imagine collection on the front.

 One thing I love about Stamperia's collections is that they always include lots of cut-apart elements and the circular tag on my card is one of those that I cut out with a scalloped die.  I wanted another layer so I added the oval kraft die cut.  That was kind of plain so I masked on some diamonds withantique gold paste and added the gent from theTim Holtz Baseboard Dolls collection.

I diecut two old jalopies from black cardstock and then smeared a bit of vintage photo paint on them to give them that old rusted look.  They now look just like rat rods! To finish off my card I added two Thought Tokens and a truck charm.

Inside I used Graphic 45's new policy die to make an envelope that is the perfect size for holding a gift card or cash.  I added some design paper to dress up the envelope and used Graphic 45's new Sentiment Stamps to add Happy Birthday.

And that's all there is to it!

Sew Sweet Challenge at The Funkie Junkie Challenge Blog

The Challenge

There's a new challenge up at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog, it's called the Sew Sweet Challenge and Cec is hosting.  Her challenge is to, "Create a shabby chic or vintage project with a sewing theme incorporating items and/or images related to sewing - think rubber stamps of sewing machines or dress forms e.g., fabric, pattern tissue and even notions such as buttons, zippers, thread, etc."

My Take on the Challenge

I decided to create a card and used the beautiful Stamperia Atelier paper collection which has lots of sewing inspired images.

I started by die-cutting 4 pieces of paper lace using a die from the Tim Holtz Crochet Lace die set and adhering around all four sides.  I cut a piece of design paper 4" x5 3/8" and adhered that on the right side of the card.  Next I cut piece from the front of the paper packaging showing the thimble and layered over the larger piece. Then I popped up a fussy cut dress form with foam tape and adhered on the left side as shown.

Have you seen the new dies and stamps in Graphic 45's Staples line up?  They have some stamps and dies that know I'll use over and over!  On this card front, I used two of their word dies to create my sentiment, "Hello Friend."

Inside the card, I adhered a file folder that I cut with Graphic 45's new folder die.  I stamped the front with a sentiment stamp, yes, from Graphic 45's new Sentiments Stamp set.  It's such a pretty stamp!

When you open the file folder there's a fussy-cut thread card from the Stamperia collection with a die-cut Graphic 45 "thanks" word adhered to it.  The thread card is large enough so that you could attach a gift card to the back of it.

That's it!

A Mother's Love Challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog

The Challenge!

Time for a new challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Challenge Blog and Sara Emily is hosting "A Mother's Love" challenge this time around. She says: "A mother's love can mean so many different things to different people. With this challenge I invite you to take some time to reflect on what it means for you and create a vintage or shabby chic project for your mother or a special woman in your life to let them know how much you love them. Be sure your project has the word "love" somewhere on it where it will be noticed." Be sure to check out the Funkie Junkie designer projects too, lots of great ideas!

My Take on the Challenge

I lost my Mom just a year ago which made this challenge a little hard for me.  I didn't want to do a Mother's Day card or anything like that so I just decided to concentrate on making a notebook that any woman would like.  My Mom was forever writing notes so I know she would have liked this.

To make the cover, I first cut two pieces of chipboard 6" x 9" and covered one side of each with Distress Cracked Leather cardstock and the other side with design paper from Graphic 45's Birdsong collection.  Then I diecut the two pieces of covered chipboard with Eileen Hull's Journal Die.

Now the fun part begins and that is turning the distress cardstock into a worn piece of leather.  I first inked with Vintage Photo Distress Oxide.  I wanted a rich deep color so I layered Walnut Stain Distress Oxide over that .  That seemed a bit dull to me so I went over all that color with Distess Vintage Photo.  At this point the covers had developed a rich brown color.  But I'm never one to leave "well enough" alone and if a little is good, then more has to be better right?  So I dug out my Vintage Gold and Bronze Age Prima Metallique waxes.  I rubbed the gold in first, applying over the entire cover.  I decided that was a bit much, so I toned the gold color down with Bronze Age.  That combination was just what I wanted!  

Now that I had a rich leather look base, I added some design paper to the front cover.  I used a cut-apart from Graphic 45's Birdsong DCE and added a die-cut lace strip on the right side.  A button and stickers completely the look.  Now to finish it off I used a Creative Embellishments border word "love" heat embossed with ancient amber embossing powder along the side.  I think it's a nice clean look with an oriental flair, just what I wanted!

Inside the Journal

Inside I used a purchased lined notebook and a plastic sleeve that is good for holding business cards, notes, etc.  I used design paper from the collection to cover the notebook.

Inside the front cover of the notebook I made a tuck spot.

On the back cover, I made a pocket.

Elastic threaded through the pre-punched holes in the cover hold the signature and plastic sleeve in place.  Then I used a simple elastic wrap to secure the notebook.  I wanted to keep it simple and utilitarian along with a distinctive cover.

April Showers Bring May Flowers Challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog

Time for a new challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Challenge Blog and I'm hosting the challenge this time around. The theme is "April Showers Bring May Flowers."  To meet the challenge you need to design a vintage or shabby chic project that incorporates a wet "something" with flowers.   Here are some examples: Stenciled or doodled raindrops, water distressed or crumpled paper, Tim Holtz's Umbrella Man, you get the idea, just have something that represents wet and then, add some flowers to your project!  Be sure to check out the Funkie Junkie designer projects too, lots of great ideas!


My take on the challenge


I started with a large tag and covered it with papers from Graphic 45's Fruit and Flora 12 x12 collection.  Then I stenciled on raindrops with Ranger Texture Paste. After that dried, I l distressed and layered on the several paper layers from the 8 x 8 pad, popping up some with cardboard.

I used a word chippy, Spring, heat embossed with Ranger  Antiquities embossing powder as a title for my tag.

I heat embossed using the same embossing powder a chipboard flourish and placed it underneath my beautiful Little Birdie flowers.  I love the metal watering can charm that I found in my stash.

Wondering how I got the nice printing on the Graphic 45 ephemera card?  I printed onto transparency paper, trimmed it out and glued with glue that dries clear.

Small Things challenge at The Funkie Junkie Boutique Blog

The Challenge

Jenny is hosting out challenge this time around and she calls it Little Things.  She describes her challenge, "Sometimes it can be the littlest of things that can mean the most. For this challenge create a small vintage or shabby chic project (or if you're feeling adventurous even a set!) It could be an Artist Trading Card/Coin, a tag or a little card for example, or you may have something else in mind - we can't wait to see them."

My Take on the Challenge

I decided to make artist trading cards (ATC) and a coin.  They are fun little projects to make and a great way to use up odd bits of paper.

This first ATC is a play with mixed media.  I used a spatula to apply modeling paste to the ATC and then pressed a bit of cotton trim into the paste.  After that dried I painted it with green Dylusions paint and let that dry before stenciling on a pattern with a Dylusions stencil.  Then I added a scrap from the Ciao Bella Seventies paper collection, added a ribbon, flower and metal key.

For this ATC, I started with a black corrugated ATC card and first inked it with oxide ink in iced spruce and misted it lightly to muddle the color.  Then I heat embossed all around the edges with gold embossing powder.

The sun face and the blue scrap are from Stamperia's Alchemy paper collection.  I cut out the sun face and backed it with a die-cut 3-D Impresslits medallion.  I heat embossed a circle frame with chunky rust and gold embossing powders and glued that over the sun face.  Then I filled in the frame area with glossy accents.  After that dried I glued it to the ATC over top the sun face.  I added a Little Birdie flower and a metal leaf charm that I accented with Metallique gold wax.

This last one is slightly larger than a regulation Artist Trading Coin.  I used Stamperia Roses and Lace paper collection.   I fussy cut a clock face from the collection and covered it with Crackle Accents and allowed to air dry.  The frame is a Creative Embellishments Frame heat embossed with silver powder.  Then the paper underneath the frame is edged with silver Metallique wax.  I just glued the pieces together and that's all there is to it!
