A Folio for Dog Lovers!

Sometimes life gets in the way and I've had a huge helping of life in the way this year but I'm moving on to better days!  I made this ever so cute dog lovers folio a long time ago and just haven't had a chance to share it with you.  I used Simple Stories Life is Ruff collection and it is so adorable! If kitties are more your thing, Simple Stories also has the very precious Life is Purrfect collection.

The folio is a tri-fold, lifting from the top.  There are fun tags and pockets where you can place photos and there's even a cut little pocket where you can tuck in a doggie treat!

Wrapped Journal Purse and Passport Book by Eileen Hull Designs by Sizzix

 Can you believe I made this purse using Eileen Hull Design's new Wrapped Journal die?  A die needs to have more than one use right?  AND the best part is that the Passport Book mini will fit right inside this sweet little purse!

To fit the mini inside, you just have to make one small adjustment.  I'll show you how to make both the purse and a mini in July, soon, I promise!  Like you, I am waiting for my Wrapped Journal die.  As a member of Eileen's design team, I received some cuts with this die way back in January and that's what I used to make this purse.  Now, I waiting for my own die.  As soon as I receive it, I'll whip up a tutorial for you, promise!

The closure I used is from Fabscraps, it is awesome!

Happy St Patrick's Day Tags!

Here are a couple of tags that I made for Creative Embellishments to wish you a Happy St Patrick's Day.  I think everyone is a little bit Irish on that day!

I started by stenciling some shamrocks with the Shamrock Stencil on the green background.  Then I added a couple pieces of torn patterned paper and layered them on the tag.

Next, I used Prima Raspberry Pie Chalk Ink to ink up the  Paint Splats and Drips and a circle from the Grunge Circles set. Then I sprinkled on clear embossing powder and heat set to give the chippies a shiny finished appearance.  After adhering my chipboard pieces, I added stickers from the collection and lace around the outer edge of the tag.

The 2nd tag is a tag within a tag.  The smaller tag is a great place to write a hidden message.  

I used a frame from the Scribble Frames 2 set and just colored it with some Lindy's Mist.

The frame is fitted around a cut-apart from the paper collection and is popped up with foam layered over an embossed pink cardstock.  I adhered the cardstock just around the edges so that a smaller tag could be tucked inside.  At the bottom I used a piece from the Paint Splats and Drips set.

A Valentine's Card with Eileen Hull Designs by Sizzix

 Need a fun card for  a special someone?  This one fits the bill, inside there's a spot for a gift card and a few photos too!   On the front of the card I've used a diecut from the Eileen Hull Designs by Sizzix Hearts Journaling Cards.  I love all those cut out hearts!

I used Simple Stories Romance papers, I love the cut aparts that come with their collections.  On the left side I made a flip up and a pocket that holds a fun little file folder where you could stash photos, tickets, money, any kind of surprise that you like.

The right side features a fun fold out that reveals a gift card holder which is one of the die cuts from the Hearts Journaling Cards Thinlets Die Set.  I used the word "love" on the gift card from the Thinlets Journaling Words Die Set.  The great thing about the Book Club Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 dies is that they are all designed to work together creating so many possibilities!

The gift card holder is designed to hold a standard gift card.  Included in the Journaling Card Set is a card die that is the size of a purchased gift card so that you can make you very own gift card.  I used a scalloped journal card underneath the gift card holder, also part of the Journaling Cards Die Set.

Here you can see the gift card outside of the holder.  Isn't that so cute with the scalloped edge?

I am so excited about the Book Club - Chapter 2 release, there are so many fun dies in the collection, you are going to LOVE it!!  I know, it isn't coming out until the May/June timeframe, and that IS along time, BUT it is well worth the wait!!!  We can play with the fabulous Book Club - Chapter 1 dies in the meantime!

Sizzix Trinket Box by Eileen Hull

Here's a sweet treat for someone special that I made using Eileen Hull's Trinket Box & Frame.  This makes into such a sweet little box!

The great thing about this die is that you can use it for so many things.  You can just cut the cover and use it as a frame on something else like I did on a photo storage box in this photo:

Or, you can use the oval cutout as I did on this project:

There are so many possibilities with the Book Club die collection!  You can also make a cute little mini with this die.  I haven't tried that yet, but stay tuned, it will happen!

Creative Embellishments - Sometimes Simple is Good!

I am  quite guilty of over thinking my projects sometimes and the result can really be a hot mess!  I really think that I need to remember that simple is good and can be quite eye catching.  Now this card is a perfect example of simple yet pretty.  I cut a base card and added two quick paper layers.  Then I selected a great Creative Embellishments oval frame to surround the pretty image from Simple Stories Sunshine & Happiness collection.  I heat embossed the frame with Stampendous shabby white embossing enamel, added some pretty Petaloo blooms and a seambinding bow.  That's it, card done!

The oblong frame really centers everything and adds the perfect look to my card.

For this next card, I chose a cut-apart from one of my favorite Graphic 45 collections, Typography and pasted it to a black cardstock base.  I diecut a doily and tucked in the upper left corner and added a piece of chipboard at the bottom right corner.  To pull it all together, I used a rectangular frame from Creative Embellishments, again, heat embossed with  Stampendous Chunky Metallic Seasonings Embossing Enamel.  Add some pretty flowers and leaves, and that's it, all done.  Quick, easy, effective.

Look how pretty the frame is with the embossing enamel.

The frame just pulls the card together and gives it a cohesive look.

Petaloo DIY flowers!

I have two summer layouts to share with you today, both using Petaloo's awesome DIY flowers. 

I used Graphic 45's Safari Adventures on this first layout to scrap photos I took at the Miami Zoo where it's always summer!  I had a blast dying my flowers to match the tropical imagery in this collection.  These flowers are so great because you can easily dye them using mists or other coloring agents.

I colored the salmon colored flowers by simply spraying them with my mist. To color the yellow largest flower, I first misted it with yellow and then I painted on a little red mist on the ends of the petals. Then I quickly blotted with a paper towel so that the color effect would be subtle.

For this flower, I gave it an all over misting with yellow, then I sprayed a little red mist on my craft mat and tipped my paintbrush in it, and painted the flower center and touched the flower tips.

I just touched these sweet little blooms with a hint of red while they were still damp from the yellow mist and blotted with a paper towel to keep the effect subtle.

First, a big thank you to Simple Stories for these bright summery papers that I used to create this family reunion layout!   I used the same technique on this layout to color the flowers. I love that so many of Petaloo's flower styles are available as DIY flowers and that picks are also available! 

I've used leaf picks in this floral cluster along with textured layers and canvas dogwoods.   All of these products absorb color so well.

Oops, one little gerber daisy that was already colored slipped in here.  ☺

Petaloo and Simple Stories Blog Hop

Today, I'm sharing some Petaloo and Simple Stories goodness.  I always know that summer is on its way when the hummingbirds come back.  During the summer we have hummingbirds every where!  I put out 4 feeders and spend a fortune on sugar keeping these beautiful little jewels fed! (You don't need to buy hummingbird nectar, just mix 1/4 cup sugar to each cup of water, heat until the sugar dissolves and you've got hummingbird nectar. Oh and another thing that is really, really important, keep your hummingbird feeders spotless.  The black mold that can grow on the feeders kills these sweet little birds.  It causes their tongues to swell so that they can not feed and they starve to death.)

OK back to flowers and paper!  Aren't these just the prettiest colors?  Kind of reminds me of sherbert, mmmm, yum.   Petaloo's new Gerber Daisies go so beautifully with this Simple Stories collection, Sunshine & Happiness.

I accented the center paper strip with pink Petaloo burlap trim. I cut a 12" strip in half since I just have the burlap peeking out the edges. I think it adds a nice touch to my layout.

I love these new blooms, they are so delicate looking and they blend so well with Simple Stories papers.

 Check out the velvet teal blossoms.  They are so pretty and they are a great value with 24 pieces in a pack including leaves and jute cord.  They have long stems which I twisted together with some of the leaves creating a small vine.  Then, I just tucked in some gerber daisies.

 I couldn't resist adding this cute little chipboard bird from the collection.  He's such a cute little accent.

I really like to make layouts telling a story about our life.  Simple Stories Bloom & Grow collection was perfect for telling a garden story.  You can see that we had a really beautiful garden growing; then the rains began.  It rained and rained and then, you know what, it rained some more.     As soon as the water subsided, we dug up all the potatos. but it was too late, we lost the better part of 100 lbs of potatoes.

At least I have some beautiful Petaloo blooms to brighten up my poor drowned garden photo! I am loving the new gerber daisies.  They are appropriate since I have berry bushes at the back of my garden.

I tucked in some Darjeeling blooms too.  They have always been a favorite of mine.

Take a look at the Flowering Berry Pick.  Those blooms look just like the ones on my blackberry bushes!   I love how the berry picks add that extra texture to my floral clusters.
