Funky Big Talk Canvas for Creative Embellishments

I'm feeling funky today and had a need to break out of my norm so here we are with a wildly colorful canvas that I did for Creative Embellishments.

The bright background was created on an art canvas by misting with water and then adding sprinkles of Ken Oliver Color Burst Powder.  I love how the powders pop and spread creating such unique patterns.

This is a Creative Embellishments Star Frame.  The frame is heat embossed.  I used Color Burst Powders on mixed media paper and framed that to make the stars stand out.

This is a Creative Embellishments Grunge Corner, also heat embossed.  I thought it made a cool platform for my funky girl to stand on!  You can also see in this photo the stamping I did with CE's Distress Circle Stamp and paint.

Dyan Reaveley has so many funky and fun stamp sets and the image here is from the Crown of Roses set.  I stamped the image on mixed media paper, colored it with markers and then fussy cut it.

AND, because I sometimes feel so snarky, I had to use a couple of quotes from Tim Holtz's Big Talk stickers.  I think it all works so well together!

Thanks for stopping by today, be sure and check out all the great chipboard, stamps, stencils and flair at the Creative Embellishments store/

Layout for Creative Embellishments

My parents in their younger years scrapped with Creative Embellishments chipboard and Graphic 45's new Elegance paper collection.

I used a Creative Embellishments frame finished with Aged Ivory Embossing Enamel to draw attention to the photo.

Creative Embellishments has so many great words and word sets.  I heat embossed the frame and love word with Stampendous Aged Ivory Embossing Enamel.

I almost always put flowers on my layouts and I really love to put chipboard leaves and flourishes underneath them.  I've used chipboard leaves along with the leaves that are on the flowers for these floral clusters.  The chipboard is colored with Lindy's mists.

Folio Notebook from Eileen Hull and Graphic 45's Elegance

Hello friends, I've had a chance to work with Eileen Hull's Folio dies again and I am loving them!!  I made the folio with pockets on both sides and a signature in the center.  The right pocket holds a little mini.

Facebook Live!

I will be doing a Facebook Live tutorial on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 4 PM EST to show you how to make the flowers using Eileen Hull's  Folio Page, Pocket & Flowers thinlit dies.  I'll also give you a flip through of this folio along with some helpful hints on folio assembly.  If you missed the Facebook Live, here's a link to the replay,  You will probably need to join the Eileen Hull Fan Club to view but that's easy!  Be sure to answer the questions when you ask to join.

Pocket on the left and right with a signature in the center.

The spine on this folio is about 2 1/2".  On the left side you can see the mandala die which is so gorgeous!!

It's March, New Challenge at Creative Embellishments

Time for a new challenge at Creative Embellishments and we've got a great sketch for you this month for inspiration!  The twist is to use stitching on your project.

I used the sketch as a take off point for my layout, changing it as needed to work with my photos.

There are lots of words in the Creative Embellishments store that work well for titles.  The Vacation piece I used comes in a set of two, large and small vacation word.  To meet the twist, I used the Zigzag Stitch Border and the Cross Stitch Border chipboard pieces.  I used Stampendous Shabby White Embossing Enamel on  all these pieces for color.

The Palm Cluster Set  and the Palm Leaves 3 set work great under my flowers and add to the Florida look  of this layout. The leaves are colored with Lindy's mists.

Shaker Cards for Creative Embellishments

Creative Embellishments has a great selection of shakers that work so well for card making and other projects too!  Today, I have two shaker cards to share with you.

Here's a great card for the coming summer and beach time! I used the Lighthouse Shaker Set, Seagrass, and an ATC coin from the Sea set on this card made with Graphic 45's By the Sea collection.

The lighthouse is painted with acrylic paints and filled with sequins from Buttons Galore.

I painted the Seagrass withLindy's mist and glued it to the front of the Lighthouse Shaker.  Then I framed the sailor image with an ATC coin from the Sea ATC

Unlike many of my dimensional cards, this one can be mailed in an envelope!

You can never make too many Christmas cards right?  Here's a fun one I made for my dear friend, Eileen Hull.  She has a travel trailer that looks a lot like this one.  I painted it with acrylic paints to match hers and decorated it with a wired ribbon thing and then added red stickles to mimic holly berries.

I painted it with acrylic paints and decorated it with a wired ribbon thingy and added red stickles to mimic holly berries.

In the upper left corner I used the Berry Wreath and heat embossed it.  Again, I used red stickles to make holly berries and added a couple of festive poinsettias.  I heat embossed the Merry Christmas words and placed in the center of the wreath to complete the look.

This is a step card so it stands nicely to display.

Eileen Hull's New Folio Journal Die - Basic Assembly Tutorial

Last week I shared the folio journal that I made with the new Folio Journal from Eileen Hull Designs by Sizzix.  Today I will show you how I put it together.

Assembly Instructions

Begin by selecting papers for the outside and inside of your folio.  I like to use cardstock that coordinates with the design papers I am using because I usually cover everything with several layers of patterned paper; so why waste my design paper on the basic cover, right?

Step 1
The XL Scoreboard dies are designed to work with thicker materials such as Sizzix mat board or medium weight chipboard.  Apply adhesive to the cardstock; adhesive sheets work really well for this application.  Then adhere the cardstock to the mat board covering both sides before die-cutting.  Next place the mat board with the cover face down on the Folio Journal die and run it through your die-cut machine.

Bonus:  If you use cardstock or paper that has no up/down pattern, you won't have to worry about a cover being upside down!  You will need to cut 2 pieces with the folio die.  The carefully fold along the score lines as shown.

Outside of both covers

Step 2
Along with the covers there is a small insert piece.  Aplly adhesive to both flaps on the insert piece. I like to use Eileen's red line tape as it is strong and holds well.

Inside cover and insert with red line tape applied to the flaps.
This is the back cover.

Adhere the insert piece to the center of the bottom of the back cover.  Now fold the folio flap over, being sure to square it up, forming a pocket as shown below in Step 4 .

Step 3
Note:  I chose to add design paper to both covers before assembling as I thought it would be easier to do while the cover was flat.

Before adding design paper to the front cover, you need to make the closure strip mechanism. Cut a piece of thin chipboard, heavy cardstock, or whatever you have about 3/4" to 1" wide and long enough to wrap from the front cover around the two folio pockets and to the back of the folio.  My journal is 1.5" thick so I cut a piece 1" x 5".  Cover both sides of the closure strip with design paper.

Then, adhere 1.5" to 2" of the closure strip to the front cover with red line tape such that the strip will fold around the folio pocket (not the spine).  Now add design paper to the front of your folio to hide where you have attached the closure strip.  Add a 2 piece magnet or velcro closure where shown in the below photo.

This is the inside front cover where you can see the closure strip hanging off the front cover.  See step 6 for completing the closure.

Step 4
You can make the spine from 1.5" to 3" depending on how much your overlap the two spine pieces.  If you make a wide journal, i.e. 3" wide, I suggest reinforcing the spine on the inside with another piece of matboard.  Use a Crop-a-dile to punch holes to match the spine.

Apply red liner tape to one of the spines as shown below and press the two spines together as shown in Step 5.  I think it looks better to apply the front cover spine over the back spine.

Step 5
Now the folio is put together. On the right side you should have a pocket and on the left side, a fold over flap.  If you wan, you can add another insert piece to the top of the folio, forming a closed pocket.  I chose to leave mine open at the top.

Step 6
To complete the closure, fold the two sides together forming the folio as shown below.  Put the magnets or velcro together on the closure strip, remove the adhesive from the 2nd part of the set and fold the closure strip around the folio and press the end onto the back cover so that the 2nd magnet or velcro piece adheres to the back cover.  That will hold your folio closed.

There you go, your basic folio.  You can add signatures by binding them to the spine with elastic bands.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

The pocket is just the right size to slip in a small journal.

Go to this post to learn how to make the flowers.

Layout for Creative Embellishments

Sharing a layout today for Creative Embellishments. First I painted the floral paper with watered down white gesso as I thought the pattern was too pink and bright. Then I masked on the background with the Ledger and Flourish stencils.

I used medium and small half  circle pieces to frame the photo.  They are painted antique white and then stamped with with pink paint using the Distressed Circle Stamp.

I used a word from the Adventure Word Set as a title and heat embossed it with Ancient Amber (Emerald Creek) embossing powder.

I love the palm leaf clusters, they look so nice layered under the flowers.  They are colored with Lindy's mists.

Blog hop order - hop along with the designers and see all their great projects!  You should have come from Sue Eldred's to my blog.  If not, you can go back to Eileen's blog and start the hop.  There will be prizes!

My Project

This die is so versatile, you can make a mini album, a folio, a notebook, the possibilities are endless!
Here's what I made.  It's a combo mini and journal.  Also, I used Eileen's new Sizzix Thinlits Die Set - Folio Page, Pocket & Flowers in the making of this Folio. I used Graphic 45's DCE Voyage Beneath the Sea 'cause I am thinking, out with winter and bring on summer, and the beach!!

The folio opens up to reveal two sides and there you can do lots of things.  On the left side I made a mini and on the right, I made a pocket to hold a journal.

This is the left side mini with lots of places to tuck photos and notes.

And this is the right side, which I made as a pocket closed at the bottom to hold a little journal.

That's all folks!

This folio is just delightful, I know you are going to love it.  Come back next week and I'll show you how to put it together.Also. don't forget to stop by Eileen's blog and see all the designer projects.
