New Field Notes and Specimen Card Die from Eileen Hull Designs by Sizzix

Hi everyone!  Today I am sharing a new style mini album/journal from Eileen Hull.   It's the Scoreboard XL Field Notes and Specimen Card Die and it holds  5” x 7” pages and photos!  I used 49 and Market's Artopia Rouge paper collection to make this mini.

I love the scalloped edge!

On this page you can see the Specimen Card which I've used as a frame.  The letters are Eileen's Alphanumeric set and the heart is from the new Envelope, Folder & Flowers thinlits set.

I made a pocket on the right with an older die, the Folio Page Pocket, and tucked in tags I made with Eileen's stamps.

More tags on the right made with Eileen's stamps and a cute little envelope made with the new  Envelope,, Folder, & Flowers Thinlits dieset.  Inside the envelope are stamps diecut with the mini slimline tickets die.

On the right side I made a pocket with a Eileen's Fashionable Button Card stamp. I just stamped, then cut out the card and glued on 3 sides forming a pocket, easy peasy!  Inside I tucked a cute little tag.

I love Eileen's new Envelope, Folder & Flowers Thinlits dies! It includes that adorable file folder on the left. I used a metal closure to hold the file folder closed. There are lots of tags on these 2 pages made with the older Card, Waterfall, and Tags thinlits set and a pocket on the right from the Folio Page, Pocket, Flowers Thinlits set.

I used the Journaling Card & Envelope dies to make the left page and on the right, I used an ATC card and cut out an oval using a die included in the  Journaling Card & Envelope set.

More tags and a file folder.

The library pocket (on the left) works so well in minis. It's a great place to stash photos, ephemera, or tags. The pretty flower on the pocket was made with dies in the new Envelope, Folder & Flowers Thinlits dies.

Eileen's newest 3D embossing folder is Keys.  I used Luster Wax to bring out the key details.  Then another file folder held closed by a keyhole on a brad so that it swivels.

Another of those cute little envelopes topped with a circle embellie made with one of Eileen's stamps.

On the left, 2 photo mats made with the Mini Slimline Tickets die.  And on the right, a pocket made with the Card Panel from the Starlit Village set.

Two ATC photo mats on the left and a library pocket on the right. The 5¢ stamp is made with one of Eileen's stamps.

On the right is another pocket I made with the Starlit Village set and on the left, another folio pocket, an ATC card, and more tags.

Last pages!  I used a diecut from the Heart Mandala die to stencil on the left page.

I used a key topped with a cameo on the spine. And that's all folks.😄

Whew, long post!  Hope you enjoyed this mini album and maybe got inspired a little!

New Sizzix Chapter 3 Dies from Eileen Hull Designs

Woo-hoo!  Time for another fabulous release from Eileen Hull Designs by Sizzix.  You are going to love this release!

The Bigz Plus Slotted Treat Box measures 6 1/2” x 5” x 3 1/2” and can hold so many things- a set of cards, journals, doll clothes, ephemera storage or you can even use it as a gift box! This is a Scoreboards die which is specially designed to cut and score thick material like matboard, chipboard, leather, felt, fabric and metal. *A 9” wide machine is required to cut this die.

I decided to turn the Slotted Treat Box into a piggy bank!  I think any kid would love this and its cuteness would make you want to "feed" it money!

The Envelope, Folder & Flowers Thinlits dies is made up of nine dies- an adorable mini envelope, file folder, set of small, medium and large hearts, and a large and small flower and leaf set. This die set will be perfect to create ephemera using your scraps!

The Keys 3D Embossing Folder is special to Eileen as the keys all came from her Dad’s house. The names on the keys had to be removed because of possible copyright issues, but I love the idea of stamping or writing words on them. The detail on this is beautiful and adding Luster Wax will really make the design pop!

I used the hearts from the Envelope, Folder & Flowers Thinlits dies and the Keys embossing folder to make this card.  I used the Keys embossing folder on a strip of black cardstock and then rubbed over the raised embossing with gold Sizzix luster wax to make the keys pop.   I die-cut 3 different sized hearts from the Envelope, Folder & Flowers Thinlits die-set and added some faux stitching. Oh yes, the corners are also from the embossed keys and they were cut with the XL Slotted Treat Box die.

Here's another card featuring the Keys 3D Embossing Folder but it is also hiding a secret.  Check back later this month to see what else is coming from Eileen!  I used Core'dinations cardstock to emboss the keys and then sanded the embossed keys to make the keys stand out.

The Field Notes and Specimen Card die is a Bigz XL die that holds 5” x 7” pages or photos- a new orientation! The Specimen Card may be used to hold photos, as a journaling card or a shaker. Holes are pre-cut into the book spine which is adjustable from 1/2” to 1 1/2 in width. *XL Cutting Pads will be needed to cut the book cover.
Anything that I can turn into a mini album is always near and dear to my heart!  The Field Notes and Specimen Card die certainly fits the bill! There's lots of journal fodder using the Envelope, Folder & Flowers Thinlits dies inside this journal and I'll share that with you later in the month.

Come join in our blog hop; our designers have lots of inspiration to share with you. There’s a giveaway too! Comment in the Facebook and YouTube streams and tell us which is your new favorite die or folder and what you would make with it. You have until July 18th to post your comments. It starts on Eileen's page:

Making a Layout with Die Cuts

There are lots of things you can do with your dies although it seems to me that so many dies focus on card and tag making rather than layouts.  So what else can you do with your dies?  On this layout I used the Heart Mandala die to cut out a frame for my photo of lovely flowering bushes at Kingsbrae Gardens.  Then I used the Heart Mandala die cut doily behind  my title.  I love the scalloped frame!

I simply diecut the mandala from a piece of design paper and used that as one of my layers after backing the cutout with my photo.

I used the lovely Art Options Rouge paper collection from 49 and Market to make this layout. Their paper is lucious!  Its such a nice heavy weight that it's great for mixed media applications.

Some other ideas:
  • use the die-cuts as stencils, the mandala dies work great for this.
  • Die-cut small tags, library cards, pockets, and use for hidden journaling
  • Emboss your diecuts by diecutting, then use an embossing folder to emboss.

Cherub Garden Tag for Creative Embellishments

I like to use large tags as my creative "playground".  It's sort of an art journal for me.  I just can't do traditional art journals, I draw a blank every time I open one.  But, give me a tag, and the mojo sometimes flows.

This is definitely one of those pieces that didn't have a plan.  I started by adhering a piece of 49 and Market design paper to a large tag and then though hmmm, those Little Birdie succulents would look good with this paper.  Then I grabbed a harlequin stencil and stenciled on a harlequin pattern.

Well then I remembered those harlequin chipboard pieces and thought they'd look nice too.  I heat embossed them with Stamependous Shabby Chic embossing powder.

Then I added my succulent garden.  Love these from Little Birdie Crafts.  I've had these little Prima resin cherubs forever.  Dont ask me why, it just popped in my head to add cherubs and call it a cherub garden.

So I thought, if I'm going to have cherubs, I need an angel/cherub kinda word, hence peace.  Works for me.  😄

Well. that's how one thing leads to another!  Hope you've enjoyed this little trip through my creative process!  Thanks for joining me.

Heritage Layout for Creative Embellishments

Creative Embellishments has some fabulous doilies that can be used in so many ways.  On this layout, I used a doily to frame a photo of my parents when they were teenagers and not yet married.  Love how this looks!

The paper I used is so pretty, I decided to just go with the single sheet and let the chipboard take center stage.   I did add some stenciled on small circles with a stencil from Creative Embellishments.  There are some great stencils in the store, check them out here .

I layered a title chippy, Love, over the doily chippy that I heat embossed.  The doily has a light coat of white gesso over it.

Of course, the finishing touch is flowers, a favorite bloom from Petaloo.  Sigh, I really miss Petaloo flowers!

Creative Embellishments Border Crossing Layout

Summer 2019, we went back to Alaska in our motorhome.  We lived in Fairbanks, Alaska 1995 - 2000 and completely fell in love with this wild untamed state.  Our last trip was in 2010 so we were super excited to return!

We crossed the border on June 12 and it's really ironic that we also crossed the border on our 2010 trip, on June 12th!

The main paper is a specialty paper that i bought in Alaska.  The embellishments are 49 and Market.

I mounted the tiny Alaska license plate embellie on a heat embossed washi tape cluster.  Those clusters work so well to hold titles.

I framed my picture with the Infinite Circle Frame (inked with Vintage Photo Distress Ink) and added some pretty Little Birdie flowers to complement.

It's March, New Challenge at Creative Embellishments

Time for a new challenge at Creative Embellishments and we've got a great sketch for you this month for inspiration!  The twist is to use stitching on your project.

I used the sketch as a take off point for my layout, changing it as needed to work with my photos.

There are lots of words in the Creative Embellishments store that work well for titles.  The Vacation piece I used comes in a set of two, large and small vacation word.  To meet the twist, I used the Zigzag Stitch Border and the Cross Stitch Border chipboard pieces.  I used Stampendous Shabby White Embossing Enamel on  all these pieces for color.

The Palm Cluster Set  and the Palm Leaves 3 set work great under my flowers and add to the Florida look  of this layout. The leaves are colored with Lindy's mists.
