Fabscraps Love 2 Travel, a new collection!

I'm excited to introduce you to one of Fabscrap's newest lines, Love 2 Travel!  Check out the entire Love 2 Travel collection, here.

I've used the Paris paper from the collection for my layout featuring a photo of my Dad when he was in Paris just after the end of WW II.  It was a bit of a challenge using pink on a guy layout but I am pleased.  You know, you just have to get past thinking pink and guys don't go together, LOL!!

I've used a Prima Almanac vine and tucked in some daisies from I Am Roses.

I heat embossed some metal bits with gold embossing powder to tuck into my cluster.   I will admit to being somewhat mad about embossing powder.

For This Project You Will Need:
    FabScraps C73 Love 2 Travel 2 sheets of 00 and 1 sheet of 004
    Black cardstock
    DC73 012 Filmstrip chipboard
    DC73 013 Viewing disk chipboard
    Border punch
White gesso, paint, molding paste, and mask if desired
    Mist and inks
    Gold embossing powder
    Stamps
Embellishments of your choice, i.e. flowers, vines, leaves, etc.

Instructions:
1.      Paint white gesso over C73 001 allowing some of the color to show through the gesso.  Dry and then tear about an inch off the left side. Randomly punch the other 3 sides.  Ink and distress as desired.
2.      Use a brick mask or any mask of your choice to mask some bricks here and there.  Allow to dry and then mist around the bricks.
3.      Cut a 2" x 12"  strip from C73 004 and randomly punch the edge.  Ink and distress as desired.
4.      Adhere 004 to the left side of the black cardstock allowing the edge to show as shown in the photo.  Then adhere 001 to the black cardstock as shown.
5.      Do some stamping on the page.  Water down some black paint and then flick dots on your paper with your paint brush.
6.      Cut the bottom frame off DC73 012 Chipboard Filmstrip so that you have three frames.  Paint with white gesso.  After the gesso dries, use a black ink pad to color the film strip leaving white showing through here and there.  Adhere the film strip to the right side of the page.
7.      Tear a piece of 001 larger than your photo and glue to a thin piece of cardboard.  Tear  strips of 001 and 004 and layer underneath your photo.
8.      Heat emboss DC73 013 Viewing Disk with gold embossing powder and layer over top the filmstrip.
9.      Adhere photo to the torn piece from step 7 and layer partially overtop the viewing disk and  filmstrip.

10.   Add embellishments of your choice, flowers, leaves, a title, etc.

Thanks so much for stipping by, I really appreciate it!

Create!

I am hosting a Round Robin at the Swirlydoos Kit Club  this month and the criteria is to use 3 things from your stash that are at least a year old and to use a word that is your inspiration for 2015.  I chose the word "Create" as I want 2015 to be the year that I really explore my artistic side and create new things.  So often I find myself just going with the flow and creating things that are easy to do.  I want to break out of that mold and really get creative!

I am following Paula so I am scraplifting her lovely LO.  Instead of using a photo, I fussy cut an image to use in it's place.  I dug deep into my stash and used an old Graphic 45 collection that I really love, Fashionista.   The G45 Staples letters are several years old as is the Prima crystal bling.  And that "create" sticker that she is pointing to, it's an old Bo Bunny sticker. I used Petaloo flowers that are probably 6 mos to a year old.

I use a lot of foam tape as I like to pop up things on my layouts to give them some depth.

Thanks for stopping by!  If you're looking for a fun place to hang out, be sure to stop by the Swirlydoos Forums.  Many of our challenges do not require you to use our kits, you can use anything from your stash!

My first love was a dog, of course! Graphic 45 Raining Cats & Dogs

One of our members at Swirlydoos, Paula,  is hosting a great fun challenge this month at Swirlydoos Kit Club to scrap your first love.  Mine had to be a dog and here I am circa 1953 with Mary Jane. She was wire haired fox terrier I think.  I really don't remember her very well but I am sure that was the beginning of my obsession with doggie furbabies.

For this layout, I layered a lot of different patterns from the Raining Cats & Dogs collection.

I used Lindy's Jack in the Pulpit Teal to dye some blue flowers to match the flowers in the patterned papers and this color matches perfectly.

The large red/orange flowers are old Prima Gallery Roses; they go so well with Graphic 45.  I'm so glad that I've been able to find them here and there to reorder.

The cream daisies are from I Am Roses.

Never miss one of our kits again!

We have some absolutely beautiful scrapbook projects for you to see today !!

I must say, this is one gorgeous kit that includes Blue Fern's Sanctuary papers and chippies! Here's my sweet princess, Nika.  I've misted the background a bit and stenciled on a doily.  The blue flowers and stems are from the kit and the feathered flower is from an old Swirlydoos kit that I've been hoarding now for several years. It's about time that I used it!

The Prima wood icon is from an earlier Swirlydoos kit and that lovely rhinestone crown was a gift from my Secret Santa sister Heather.  Thank you Heather, I love it and it was perfect for this layout!

I nestled some burgandy roses from I am Roses into the kit Petaloo stems.

I touched the petals on the KC blue flowers with tan and white paint so that they would blend in nicely with the Petaloo Botanical stems.

I painted the chipboard white and then sprinkled on some really fine glitter and added some Prima crystals.

Supplies
Patterned paper: Blue Fern Studios Sanctuary: Base - Meadows of Time, rectangle - Bontanica Garden, (all from the kit)
Letters: Prima wooden icons "My Sweet Princess" (from a prior kit), I Am Roses
Chipboard: BFS Boston Lattice,  (all from the kit and addons)
Flowers: Petaloo Faux Dried Flowers Epherma Grey/Blue ( from the kit and/or addons),, Kaisercraft paper blooms iceberg (from the kit and/or addons), Prima Guava Peony Etude, Petaloo Spring Berry Cluser Yellow/Green (Both from previous kits)

*****
I did a little masking on the background of this layout with two different masks. I tore some pieces of cardboard and painted a whitewash over them to layer under my photo and flowers.  The photo was taken shortly after we were married some 22 + years ago.  Wow, can't believe its been that long!

The smaller roses that you see on my layout are from the kit while the larger pink roses are from my stash.  The brown ones are from a previous kit.

I love the Prima Shabby Chic resin birds in the kit!

Supplies:
Corrugated paper Fancy Pants (from a previous kit)
Patterned paper: Blue Fern Studios Sanctuary: Base - Bountiful, cut out corners - Conservatory (from the kit)
Chipboard: BFS Tweet Friends (from a previous kit)

Masking paste: 13 Arts Ayeeda Gesso
Other: Prima Shabby Chic Birds, Heidi Swapp word stickers (both from the kit)

This is my mixed media mayhem layout for the month, LOL!!  I've stamped on a lot of gold and white paint as well as created some drips with watered down paint.  This style of work is not easy for me but I like to push myself with one layout each month using mixed medias.

Scrapbooking started out as a way of preserving memories and in the last few years has taken a turn where it is more of an art form that memory preservation.  While I love the art side, I want to combine the two so that while I am exploring my inner artist, I am also preserving memories and telling stories.

Here is my journaling:
In the fall we always take a trip to the mountains of NC and one of the things we really love doing is visiting Barber Orchard in Waynesville to buy apples. This year we bought 4 bushels, 2 for us and 2 for Mom and Dad. I canned 20 quarts and 32 pints of applesauce and 24 quarts of sliced apples! Some of the sauce was for Mom and Dad. It really is a lot of work but we enjoy the bounty all year long and its so much better than what you can buy in the store!

To treat the chippy, I first dabbed silver paint all over creating a texture with the paint, then I randomly applied gold embossing enamel here and there and heat set.

To create the drips and splats, I watered down red paint and dripped it on the page.  To create the splatters, I gathered paint on my brush and then just tapped the brush over the page.

Supplies:
Patterned paper: Blue Fern Studios Sanctuary: Base - Correspondence, circle - Conservatory (from the kit)
Letters: Pink Paislee Artisan Elements
Chipboard: BFS Beaded Flourish (from the kit and/or addons) painted with silver dabber and gold embossing powder
Embossing powder: Stampendous aged Gold
Diecuts and punches: Spellbinders Gold Labels Four
Flowers: Petaloo Chantilly Hydrangeas (from the kit and/or addons), Petaloo Chantilly Mixed Blooms Red Burgundy
Ink: Stazon gold,
Masks: Prima Decor 2
Masking paste: Art-C dark green
Paint: Art Anthology Red Velvet watered down for drips (from a previous kit), Claudia Hellmuth Blank Canvas, Ranger silver dabber
Other: Burlap Ribbon (from the kit and/or addons)

More projects with the Dec Swirlydoos Kit Club kit.

It's time to bid 2014 a fond adieu!  Can you believe that when you wake up tomorrow it will be 2015?  Seriously, it seems like January 2014, t was just the other day.  I want to wish everyone a very safe and happy new year.  I hope that 2015 is a great year for you!

The Swirlydoos December kit was filled with gorgeous papers from Bo Bunny's Rose Cafe collection. Here I've  layered some scraps under the photo and added some journal pieces from the Rose Cafe collection Noteworthy Journal cards at the bottom of the photo.

I made the flowers using the Prima beads from the kit and Diamond Dust and stamen from my stash. I'll have a video tute on January 3rd to show you how to make these simple flowers.

Supplies:
Patterned paper:  Bo Bunny Rose Cafe collection:  Pink background - Rose Cafe,  brown and floral under photo - Espresso,  Rose Cafe Noteworthy Journaling cards
Diecuts and punches:  Alterations Tattered Floral, Martha Stewart Flourish Lace
Flowers:   handmade
Mist:  Lindy's Starburst Cosmopolitan Pink
Masks:  Prima Decor 1 & 2
Masking paste: 13 Arts  Ayeeda white gesso
Paint:      white
Other:  Diamond Dust, Prima beads, Darice stamen

I created the background on this layout by first tearing off a little strip of paper all along the edges of Bo Bunny's French Roast paper.  Then I inked and furthered distressed the edges a bit.  Next I stamped randomly with Mixed Media stamps and Stazon silver ink.  Then I did some masking in the upper right corner with a Prima Decor mask and Shimmerz Texturez.  I pressed some beads into the masking paste before it dried.  For a final touch to my background, I sprayed on some Shimmerzing Goldie Lox.  That just gives an overall shimmer to my background without adding much color.

I added a piece of cardstock to the back of my layout and I've used embossing enamel around the edges.

Supplies:

Cardstock: Bazzill Gem Onyx
Patterned paper: Bo Bunny Rose Cafe French Roast, Noteworthy Journal Cards,
Laser cuts swirls: Bo Bunny Clockwork Shapes
Embossing powder: Stampendous aged gold
Flowers: Petaloo Sugared Berry Cluster blue, Petaloo Jeweled Flowers Lavender
Ink: Stazon Silver, Distress Gathered Twigs.
Mist: Shimmerzing Goldie Lox
Masks: Prima Decor
Masking paste: Shimmerz Texturez Sandy Stone
Stamps: Stamper's Anonymous Mixed Media
Other: Prima Resins 572358, Bo Buny Film Sticker, Prima Beads - butter

Never miss one of our kits again!

We have some absolutely beautiful scrapbook projects for you to see today !!

Our kits always include a sketch and this is my take on the sketch.  Pictured is my sweet little Tisha.  She spied her ball on the table and was so cute sneaking up on the table to claim her ball!  The yellow flowers and papers are all from the kit, I added the pink flowers and white lace from my stash and the letters were in last month's kit.  The gorgeous pink roses are Primas and came from the Swirlydoos store.

This is a paper mache card keeper box that came in the technique kit, it was a fun project to do and quite useful.  I'm using it to keep my Christmas cards in but it would also make a great gift box.  I used Modge Podge on all my papers so that papers would wear well.  Everything is from the technique kit.  I did cut the letters and gold Christmas balls (embossed with gold embossing powder) with my Cameo.

I kind of went crazy with the mixed media on this one!  I used a lot of masking paste and mists from my stash, on the background.  I really love the Blue Fern chippy that came in the embellie add on!  I painted mine with moonbeam Silks.

I love these sugared blooms from Petaloo!!

You have until midnight, eastern time, 12/17 to complete the hop. Winners will be announced on the Swirlydoos Blog on 12/19. In order to qualify to win here is what you need to do:
