Sizzix Stamp & Photo Storage Die and Book Binding Die by Eileen Hull

Here's a really fun little gift you can make and it has so many possibilities.  I've made it up as a tiny recipe book but you could just as easily make it into a notebook, a mini album, your imagination is the limit!  I used dies from Eileen Hull's Book Club collection by Sizzix. 

To make the recipe book I cut two pieces of 4" x 6" chipboard for the covers  and used 4" x 6" cut-aparts, trimmed down ever so slightly, from Graphic 45's French Country DCE collection.  You could easily use purchased recipe cards or index cards.   To bind the recipe book, I used the Movers & Shapers Magnetic Die to diecut the binding holes and then used MAMBI binding discs to put it together.  (You can see how to use the binding die and discs in this post with a tutorial)

The box was made with the Stamp & Photo Storage die. 

On the front of the box I used the frame from the Trinket Box & Frame XL die.  I love how all the dies in the Book club collection work together!

Sizzix Storage Box by Eileen Hull Designs

If you stopped by Eileen's blog  earlier this week, you may have seen this storage box.  As promised in my earlier post this week,  I'm sharing the details about this adorable box AND another mini.

First up the storage box.  To make the box, I covered a 6 x 12 sheet of mat board with Atelier design paper from Stamperia and then I die cut the box.  (Eileen did a video showing how to make the basic box, you can watch it here.)  After assembling the basic box, I masked on a pattern with white masking paste.  Then the fun part:  I took some Prima Mettallique Vintage Gold Paste and rubbed over the masking and the box seams.  

Then I used the oval mover and shaper piece from the Trinket Box Die to die cut the oval shape from design paper.  I made the simple flower in the center using flower dies from the  Bookmark, Tag & Pocket Set.  The great thing about the Book Club series of dies is that they all work together as you can see in this very long 😊 post!  Of course you can use what you have, but I just wanted you to see how a set of dies can be used together and in many different ways.

On the other side of the box I adhered a doily, yep I rubbed it all over with gold paste.  For a fun little feature, I added a hidden tag from the Bookmark set, do you see it up there on the right corner sticking out of the circular embellishment that was cut from the design paper?

 Here's the tag out of its "hiding" place.  At the bottom I used a word, Moments, from the  Floral Arch & Words set.   To complete the box and give it a really shabby chic look, I glued a really fun floral lace along the edge.

Now let's take a look at another mini that fits inside this little box. Previously we looked at the mini on the right side of this photo made with the Sizzix Movers & Shapers Magnetic Die - Book Binding by Eileen Hull Designs.  (YOu can find that post here.)

This second mini was made with the Passport Book but I made it a little smaller so that it would fit better in the storage box.  Here's how I did that.  

Here's a quick video slideshow of all the pages in the mini.  

I took the center spine diecut and cut it into 2 pieces as shown in the 2nd photo below.  Then I glued one side over top the other so that the spine has two holes and can hold two signatures.  See the 3rd photo below.

Then assemble the book by gluing the front and back covers to the spine. (These photos are just for illustrative purposes.  I normally cover the matboard with design paper before I diecut the pieces.)

Inside the mini I created a lot of pockets and tuck spots for tags and such.

I used the bookplate die from the Bookplate, Hinges & Label Framelits set to make some tags.  This is so easy to do.  Just diecut a few bookplates.  If you have a corner rounder, you can round the bottom corners.  Then locate the center of the tag at the top and punch a 1/8" hole.  I used Tim Holtz hole reinforcers  and jute twine to really make then look like tags.

You can also make a great waterfall that is perfectly sized for this mini with the same bookplate die.

 Die cut 4 bookplates and score at 3/8" as shown.  Apply scor-tape or similar double sided tape.

Adhere the first diecut at the top of the page.  Lift up the bookplate and adhere the 2nd bookplate directly beneath the first as shown above.  Continue with the other two bookplates.

 Now you have a fun paper waterfall in you mini that is perfect for storing photos.  I glued on the scissors to hold all the papers down.  The scissors go so well with the collection!

Sizzix Book Club Dies by Eileen Hull, in your stores NOW!

Eileen Hull's Book Club dies collection are in the house, ya-hoo!  This is a wonderful set of dies that work together so well as you will see in the mini I made to show you some of the Book Club die cuts.  In this photo is a mini album that fits into a cute little storage box, all made with Book Club Dies.  Scroll on down for a tutorial on the mini, and pop by later for a closer look at the storage box and another mini that fits in the storage box.

You can find these dies in many local craft shops and online and I've also linked them to the Sizzix store.  I used the Movers & Shapers Magnetic Die - Book Binding to make the pictured mini album and the ScoreBoards XL Die - Card Box, Planner Storage & Organizer to make the storage box.

 I used Stamperia's Altelier paper collection for these two pieces.  It is such a lovely feminine and vintage collection.

 On the cover I used the bookplate framelit die from the Sizzix Framelits Die Set 8PK - Bookplate, Hinges & Label to diecut the white cardboard core label underneath the fussy cut butterfly.  I love how that focuses the eye on the center of the page.  Then, don't you love that Moments title?  That's cut with the Framelits Die Set 4 pk, Floral Arch & Words .

Get ready for it, lots of photos to follow!  I've photoed all the pages and then I've a tutorial at the bottom to show you how to use the Movers and Shapers Magnetic Die Book Binding die.

 The inside cover features a photo mat and belly band.  On the right side page I've used a hinge from the Sizzix Framelits Die Set 8PK - Bookplate, Hinges & Label  underneath the button to make it stand out.

I made these two tags to go in the pocket on the left side, again using the bookplate die from the Sizzix Framelits Die Set 8PK - Bookplate, Hinges & Label. I also used one of the hinges to embellish near the top.  On the right side I used one of the larger labels from this same set.

I really love the  Bookplate, Hinges & Label set, I've used it again on these two pages!  There's the larger label on the left and a smaller one on the right.

The  Framelits Die Set 8 PK - Bookmark, Tag and Pocket  has the cutest little tag as part o the set and I've used it on the left page at the top.  That die set also includes 3 little flower dies and I used those to make the flowers on the left and right pages.

On the right side, I've used a scalloped circle embellishment from the Bookplate, Hinges & Label set.  These sets are so versatile and full of fun dies.  The right page has a flower made from the  Bookmark, Tag and Pocket set.

The leftt side is design paper and on the right, down in the corner is that cute little pocket and tag from the  Bookmark, Tag and Pocket set.  At the top is the scalloped circle embellishment from the Bookplate, Hinges & Label set.

On the left page I again used the Sizzix Framelits Die Set 8PK - Bookplate, Hinges & Label to cut some hinges that I folded in half and used to cover the holes in the tags that are part of the paper collection. On the right side I used the flower dies from the Framelits Die Set 8 PK - Bookmark, Tag and Pocket set to make the flower embellishment.

Each of the pages in this mini is a pocket and each pocket holds one of these tags that I cut from a really old original Sizzix scalloped tag die.

Tutorial for making the Mini Album using the Movers & Shapers Magnetic Die - Book Binding dies

Step 1 - Cut the Cover

I used the Sizzix ScoreBoards XL Die - Album, Mini to cut the cover, but you certainly don't have to use a die.  Just cut two chipboard pieces 5" x 5" and cover both sides with design paper.

If you chose to use the Scoreboard die, cut a cover as pictured below.

The cut away the spine portion of the mini leaving two 5" x 5" panels.  Cover both sides of each panel with design paper.  Tip:  Glue the paper to the mat or chip board before die cutting.  That way you will get a well adhered perfectly position cover.  Adhesive sheets such as these from Sizzix are great to use, there are many different options available on the market.

Step 2 - Using the binding system

 You will need the Movers & Shapers Magnetic Die - Book Binding die and a  Movers and Shapers Accesory Base Tray.  Measure 1/2" in from the top and bottom of your cover and then tape the Book Binding die to the cover lining up on the  left edge of the front cover, so that it doesn't move on you.  Now the directions for the base tray will tell you to place the die down and then place the paper over top but I was having a hard time with that so I put the paper down with the die over top.  Guess I never was too good at following directions!  😅

Run the covers through your die cut machine.  If you cut the covers separately, make sure you have them lined up perfectly so that the binding holes match up.  Also pay attention the your design so that up and down designs are right side up and that you have cut the holes such that the inside cover is in fact inside.

Arrows are pointing to the holes.  Now you can bind the mini together using rings or ribbon.

If you choose to use the MAMBI Happy Planner discs that I have used, you will need to cut away about 3/8" from the side so that you can insert the binder discs.

Step 3 - making the inner pocket pages
Cut 6 sheets of cardstock to 9 1/2" x 4 3/4" and score vertically at 4 3/4".  Fold on the score lines making 6 pages.

 Step 4 - place 1/4" score tape on the bottom or use glue to seal the bottom seam on each of the 6 pages.  This will form a pocket.

Step 5 - Use the Book Binding die to cut the holes on the left side of each page.  You can cut several pages at one time.  So that my pages were perfectly aligned, I left one cut page imbedded on the die and lined up the uncut pages with the cut page.   

 Then I taped the pages together so that they could not move, and ran it through my diecut machine.

 Step 6 - Again, if you are using the Mambi discs to bind, you will need to cut away about 3/8" from the binding hole side as in the photo.

Step 7 - Insert the discs into the binding holes or use rings to put the mini together.  Now you are ready to embellish all your pages.  Tip:  It is easier to embellish and complete each page before binding the mini together.

 Let's get this party started 'cause it's time for the January photo inspiration challenge at Creative Embellishments!  Here's the inspiration photo.  I took off on the colors which strangely led me to rusty gears but then the twist this month is to use glitter so I've got steampunk meets glitzy glam going on.

I started out with a Large Tag from Creative Embellishments and covered the tag with Stamperia Time is An Illusion paper.  Then I used CE's Metal Stencil to add some gold masking to the tag background.  

On the right side I used one of my favorite chippies, the Grunge Star Corner, I love this chippy!  (And, there's a grunge heart corner too!)  The smaller stars are simply painted with Bo Bunny Sugar Glitter Paste and then the big star was first heat embossed with Stampendous Aged Black embossing enamel and then painted with the same Glitter Paste.

On the left side I've used another of my favorite chippies, from the Washi Tape Clusters set, as the platform for my Happy New Years sentiment.  I rubbed onto the chippy some Prima Antique Brillance Lucky Emerald Wax and Prima Metallique Wax - Antique Gold.  The champagne bottle shaker was made with Cheery Lynn dies.

Nestled in with the fibers and sentiment I've used Pine Cone Clusters topped with a burlap roses.  First I painted mist on the pine cones and pine branches in brown and green.  Then I lightly rubbed x over the pine cones with Vintage Gold Wax to highlight their shape.  Next, more glitter paste on the branches, of course!  This piece is all about the sparkle!

I used Gear Cluster Set 2 for the grungy steampunk elements.  I painted those with Prima's rust effect pastes.  Then I "stickled" here and there with Stickles Walnut Stain, Vintage Photo, Frayed Burlap and Cinnamon.

I finished it off with a "mess" of fibers that I truly gathered from my left over bits and pieces.  Love it when I can use something up like that!
