This really is a lot easier than it looks. First glue down all your pieces. I used a mix of fabrics, metals, and flowers. Then paint it all with a good coat of white gesso. Next take your mists and start applying, being sure to dry between colors. As you mist and dry, the color begins to build up. Give this a try, its really a lot of fun!

Steampunk challenge at the Flying Unicorn
Mish aka Bubbachooka is hosting a challenge this month with a Steampunk theme so I created this canvas for her challenge. I was inspired after watching a great video on the G45 blog.

Studio 490 Embossing Paste available at the Flying Unicorn!
We have a new product in the store, Studio 490 Wendy Vecchi Embossing Paste and I am loving it!! The paste comes in 4 colors, gold, silver, white and black. It has a great creamy consistency and goes on great. I love it and I'm betting you will too.
I have always loved metallic anything, paint, paste, rubons, trinkets, etc! I just got some Studio 490 silver paste and watned to create something fun with it for my Think Like A Crow challenge. What??? Think like a crow, I'm not a bird! LOL, it is said by some that crows love to gather shiny objects so my challenge is to do a project using 5 different shiny objects. Here's a link to my challenge, check it out! Please remember that you do not have to use the Flying Unicorn kits or items from the store to enter our challenges, everyone is welcome to use their stash!

To create this canvas I first mod-podged on strips of lace. Then I coated the entire canvas with white gesso. Next I sprayed and dabbed on lots of mists in gold and silver. After all that dried, I used Studio 490 Embossing Paste and TCW Peacock Feathers Mask to mask the silver feathers. As that dried it took on the texture of the lace underneath it.
The chandelier is Dusty Attic and has been embossed with gold UTEE and then some gold stickles were added.
The metal flowers are Flying Unicorn adornments. (Watch for new ones coming to the store soon!) I dipped the petals of the center flower into silver and marcasite embossing powder to add some intrest. I added Prima swirls and used some gold beads and Melissa Frances chandelier drops to complete my floral cluster.
Gather your shiny objects and come play in my challenge!

Another layout using the Flying Unicorn June KOM!
Sassy girls indeed! My dear friend and fellow scrapper, Jen aka jrabs, was hamming it up with Nika aka Noodle, my younger standard poodle, when I snapped this adorable photo. Noodle adores Jen and she was just loving all the snuggles she was getting!
I created this LO for a Tic Tac Go challenge that Alda is hosting at the Flying Unicorn using the awesome June kit. The great thing about all of our challenges and our forum, you do not have to use our kits. You are welcome to enter our challenges using your stash.

The metal flowers are part of Flying Unicorn Designer Series Adornments. These are so gorgeous! I randomly applied a little bit of embossing enamel to them too just to tie them in with the rest of the layout.
I altered the letters on this layout by first painting the raw chipboard with white gesso. Then I randomly dabbed with embossing ink and used my favorite embossing powders, Stampendous aged green. I used shabby white on the flowers.

Flying Unicorn Introduces Color Hills papers from Poland!
The Flying Unicorn store specializes in bringing new papers to the US. We recently brought in several new lines from Poland and we'll be revealing them to you over the next couple weeks. This line, Color Hills, is bright and cheerful, perfect for children's layouts. The paper is really heavy weight so it stands up great to misting and masking.
We recently celebrated my Dad's 91st birthday! It was a great day as all my family gathered at my house for dinner and celebrating.
My great niece doesn't look very happy about sitting in my Dad's lap but at least she didn't cry! She will be two years old the end of June and she's ever so cute but a little shy with us as she doesn't spend much time around us.

My challenge at the Flying Unicorn forums!
I am hosting the THINK LIKE A CROW! challenge at the Flying Unicorn this month. I do hope you'll make a shiny project and come join us at the Flying Unicorn.
You can make a card, tag, layout, ATC, arch, whatever you would like. You simply must use 5 different kinds of shiny objects on your layout. Each item must be different, meaning that any 3 metal flowers counts as 1 kind of shiny object. The flashier the better, I want to be bedazzled and blinded by all your shiny objects
Here are some shiny objects that you could collect, just to get you thinking, you can use any shiny objects!
Flying Unicorn Adornments - these are fabulous shiny objects!
Metallic ribbons and threads
Metallic rubons and rubz
Metallic colored paints i.e. Viva Gold, metallic water colors, acrylics,
Stickles
Aluminum foil
Metal tape
jewelry pieces
Bling
Embossing paste
Tim Holtz metals
7 Gypsies metals
metallic mists, ie Lindy's or Glimmer Mist
It is said by some, that crows are attracted to shiny
objects. Most likely they are simply
Investigating the object as a potential food source. At any rate, it is time for us to act like crows
and collect lots of shiny objects!

More kit creations with the June Flying Unicorn kit.
This kit has so many soft and sweet elements in it and the paper is certainly dreamy and romantic, but wait, you can get wild with it too!
Here's my Walk on the Wild Side! The photograph is one that I took of a pond near Chicken, Alaska in the campground where we were staying. There were forest fires everywhere which is why this shot looks so hazy. The sun was peeking through the haze and is reflected in the water.
I used Pink Paislee's Hope Chest Treasures paper for my base and then loaded on the Lindy's. I wanted to continue with the colors of tire on my layout. I used TCW's reverse chicken wire for some masking and also mini paint lids to mask the background. I used a great new product in the store, Studio 490 Wendy Vecchi black embossing paste. I love this stuff, it goes on so smooth! Best thing is that it comes in gold, silver, black and white. The circle behind the photo is embossed with the gold using TCW mini microbial. The two squares behind the photo are also embossed with the gold paste and TCW's mini tile mask. I seriously love the gold paste, it is so pretty and shiny!! Look at one of the closeups of the 2nd layout for a really good shot of the gold embossing paste. On this layout there is mist on top of the paste so it doesn't shine as much as it would "naked".
Closeup of gold embossing paste. The torn papers are just a piece of very tattered cardboard.

Here's a layout I did with the softer sweet feminine part of the kit. This is our niece with her wedding party. The two branches extending from under the photo are embossed with Studio 490 Wendy Vecchi gold embossing paste. The large flower, Prima Tatiana, and the chippies from my stash.
Here's a closeup of the Studio 490 Wendy Vecchi gold embossing paste, isn't it pretty? I love how it shines!
The chippie is covered with a cool product call Luster Rubons; it's a creamy rub product that cleans up with water. I simply rubbed it on the chippy, fun stuff!

Flying Unicorn June KOM creations!
The June KOM, A Ray of Magic is fabulous!!!! You can surely create magic with it too, LOL!! The kit features Prima Fairy Rhymes and Pink Paislee Hope Chest along with some other complementary papers.
This is my favorite layout that I did with the kit. Might have something to do with my subject, my sweet little poodle girls. They really do act like small little girls and I thought this paper was just perfect for doing a girly feminine page of my sweethearts! I did a little masking with TCW mini Kaleidoscope mask and lots of Lindy's to color it. The washi tape was inked with Distress ink in ripe persimmon. All the flowers are from the kit but I colored the white ones with Lindy's Fuzzy Navel Peach.
Most everything on this layout is from the kit, I did add the peach ribbon and pearls atop the banner and the transparency that is over the photo that I've had that for years!!

The Flying Unicorn main kit ALWAYS includes an OTP project that is different every month. Its fun to anticipate what it will e each month! The June kit includes this fab trunk that is large enough to hold lots of things. Right now I am using mine to hold a partially completed mini book and the papers I've been using to make it.
I used Graphic 45 Birdsong (not in the kit) to make my trunk and I love how it turned out. The flowers I used are in the kit but I did add the ivy vines from my stash.
I used Prima's 12 x 12 Flourish mask on this next layout. I wanted to give a lacey look to the background and I thought this flourish did the trick. These are Authentique Cherish papers and they also came in the kit. Those gorgeous metal flowers are part of the new Flying Unicorn Adornments 2nd collection. I just love them and I've been using them on everything. The pearl centers are from my stash, they are Ruby Rockit and from an old kit.
Supplies: all from the kit unless otherwise noted
